Clay's Canucks Commentary - Don't Stop Believing (Journey Cover)

The Vancouver Canucks may be down but they’re certainly not out of their first-round NHL Western Conference quarterfinal playoff series with the Los Angeles Kings. Despite the Canucks’ victory on Wednesday night, they are still behind 3 games to 1. With Game 5 Sunday night at Rogers Arena, the Canucks should be able to feed off a loud and raucous crowd. It’s time for Canucks fans to unite and get the behind the blue and green! I brought in my good friend: the lovely and talented Arielle

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 18, 2012: Canucks 3 Kings 1 (Game 4 Reaction)

The Vancouver Canucks earned their first victory of the 2012 NHL postseason with a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings still lead the series 3 games to 1. Inspired by the return of Daniel Sedin, the Canucks went 2 for 3 on the powerplay while goaltender Cory Schneider was solid again in net. The Canucks have more confidence and a smidgen of momentum heading back to Vancouver for game 5 on Sunday night. However, it will still be an extremely difficult task to come back and det

Boycott The Nhl Playoffs

Boycott the NHL playoffs and its sponsers for the blanted disregard for the safety of its players. Case in point: Dustin Brown's head shot on Henrilk Sedin sure looked like an attempt to injure. When there is no call on the play (as the player crawls off the ice) you really have to begin to wonder. As many sports writers have already mentioned, the NHL has a different set of rules for the post season which is set-up to fail the true spirit of the game. The NHL from the President down have bee

How Much Is The League Paid The Canucks So A Canadian Team Will Not Win The Cup

How much has the lleague paid the canucks this year to make sure they do not make it back to the Finals. Think about it starting last summer when we let ,Christian Erhoff, the only Canucks defenceman capeable of playing the point on the powerpla. IE a good point man is one who when the opposing player fires the puck around the boards in an attempt to cllear the zone has the ability to move laterally fast enough to get to the puck before it leaves the zone. Erhoff was the only defencemen we had

Time For Reform?

First off, I would like to say that if the Canucks somehow manage to beat Los Angeles, I will eat my words. The end to this season has been a disappointment, and the issues that the Canucks possess have been exposed by the Kings. The little issues that Boston exposed a year ago have turned into big issues that Los Angeles has exposed recently. At the end of last season and into the draft and free agency, it was a "if it aint broke, dont fix it" mentality. We all felt that no matter what, i

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 15, 2012: Kings 1 Canucks 0 (Game 3 Reaction)

With a 1-0 victory in Game 3, the Los Angeles Kings have taken a stranglehold over the Vancouver Canucks in their first-round NHL playoff series as they lead the series 3 games to none. Looking ahead to Game 4 on Wednesday night, the Canucks will need to come up with their most inspired effort of the season and somehow find a way to solve Jonathan Quick. I appeal to all Canucks fans (both loyal ones and bandwagoners) to stick with the team and stand behind them. It's not over 'til it's ove

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 13, 2012: Kings 4 Canucks 2 (Game 2 Reaction)

The Los Angeles Kings have taken the first two games of their playoff series with the Vancouver Canucks by posting consecutive 4-2 victories at Rogers Arena. In game 2 on a freaky Friday the 13th, the Kings' special teams play was indeed special as they scored 2 short-handed goals and 1 power play goal. Meanwhile, the Canucks went 0 for 5 with the man advantage. Now the Canucks have the daunting task of winning 4 out of the next 5 games. Is it possible? Or course. Is it likely? Even as the

The Day Cory Schneider Took The Team

As John Shorthouse said post game on the team 1040 after the loss of the 2nd game, "You have to change the feel of the game." And I agree. Cory Schneider will start Game 3 guaranteed. The resiliency will pay off for the Vancouver Canucks. Vigneault taught his team to work with each other. Remember the line juggling he did in the dog days of the regular season? Burrows was taken off the first line for much of the final 2 months, the all American line broken apart and brought back together at

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 11, 2012: Kings 4 Canucks 2 (Game 1 Reaction)

Here's my first playoff CCC...unfortunately after a 4-2 Los Angeles Kings victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The Kings played a very disciplined and smart game and were full value for the win. Birthday boy Alex Burrows was quite prominent: he scored the game's first goal and was also on the receiving end of a couple of massive hits. I'll be going to game 2 on Friday with my wife Gail and I'm looking forward to a better effort and positive result. http://www.canuckclay.com http://www

Why The Fans Are So Important.

Lets start with the blue jays. we have a pool of talent because we didn't have fans. we didn't have money to buy the players and we didn't have the fans to critique every move. Watch a Canuck game. every single mistake is maximized. every single time Luongo lets in a bad goal, the crowd lets him know. The crowd also appreciates the small moves that mean something. A back checking offensive player gets applauded appropriately. I guarantee you Derek Jeter and A-Rod are critiqued 10 times more

Overlooked Reason Why Vancouver Will Win

Goaltending, defense, and the number of appearances Mike Richards and Jeff Carter make at the Roxy could have a big impact on this series. However, there is one major underlying trend that could make all the difference for these two clubs. - Who takes what faceoffs where. Seems like a redundant concept, but I am going to break it down with a bunch of lame, boring numbers. The Canucks 4th line ( Malhotra, Lapierre, Weise) are #1-3 in the league for lowest offenseive zone start % (With Pa

The Beauty Of Being A Canucks Fan

Before I start, I would like to say I had a perfectly written post that addressed so many things I might miss now due to the boards crashing and giving me some error................................ Regardless, Over the last 20 years of being a Canucks fan, I have come realize that being a Canucks fan is extremely frustrating. We have had so many ups and downs that we literally whine about everything. I'm not speaking on all posters, but majority of the posters will find something to nit pi

The Best Canucks Strategy?

well both goalies have played top notch in there last few games and i believe that resting had to be a big part of it, a strategy. ever since schnieder played for luongo for 2 straight games while he rested it seemed like the canucks were a better team. it gave schnieder a reason why he was in this team and took the pressure off luongo. after the 2 game break luongo went in and dominated for another 2 games and played incredible. can this be a strategy for canuck's success to the stanley cup?

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For April 3, 2012: Clay's Anthem Analysis

I'm always fascinated by the national anthems at sporting events. A good anthem can get the crowd engaged and excited even before the opening face-off, kick-off, or tip-off. Conversely, a poor rendition can leave both players and fans distracted and confused. Starting tonight, for Canucks games that I'm at, I will be scoring the national anthems in 5 key categories: 1. Tone/Pitch 2. Pace 3. Ending 4. Appearance 5. Crowd Involvement I'm looking forward to having some fun with this. F

The Celebrity Of Sports

The problem with passion and sports is, once you get to the top, for many at least, it's the money that drives you. Because something you were once passionate about, you sold for a price. And now you push yourself differently. Market yourself. You start fights because that's what your paid to do. It's the action that drives in the fans and brings in the dollars. Take a Jerome Iginla. He gets paid the big dollars and the coaches ask him not to take dumb penalties. That a fighting major take

Some Stats Before The Playoffs

Did you know that among active Canucks players, the Sedin’s have played the most games and have been here the longest? Then it is Salo and Kesler who has 553 games since 2003 under his belt. Then Burrows if you can believe it. Then Bieksa, and Edler who has 42 goals in his career so far. Then Mason Raymond and Jannik Hansen from 2007. Rome, Malhotra, Hamhuis. Ballard, Lapierre, Higgins, and i will slip in Hodgson and Weise round out the majority of the regulars. Remember Jan Hlavac? He

The Luck O' The Irish Or Climbing Out Of Our Slump?

Columbus Vs. Vancouver. A seemingly easy game. The roles would seem to be clear when a 3rd place team plays a last place team. There should be a good team, and a bad team. There should be a visible difference in playing standards when the contestants are separated by 26 teams in the league standings. But we knew better than that. None of us bought into that ‘it’s a sure bet’ hype. Being born and raised Canucks fans we were prepared for disaster. Our organization brought us up this way. We do

The Confuqulation That Was Van Vs. Phoenix.

We've all heard it before. AV is a coaching genius. AV got us to the Stanley Cup Finals. AV has made the Vancouver Canucks the best team the organization has ever been able to produce. When we were winning this mentality was all fine and dandy. We bowed down to our mobster look a like coach, and bragged about his sass. We giggled with him, shook our heads in disgust with him, and stood behind him as he smirked his way into our hearts. But times have changed, and moods have soured. We were war

Zack & Cody, A Couple Weeks Later

Since the biggest trade on deadline day, there has been a TON of controversy over who won the trade. There are still a lot of fans of Hodgson on the boards, as he was our top prospect. I was a little sad about losing him too. I was a little upset when people started saying Hodgson asked for a trade and people are saying he's a douche n stuff, but at the same time, I was a little happy. It was good to see people supporting our new top prospect, Zack Kassian. But people have been underestimati

Ccc - Clay's Canucks Commentary For March 4, 2012: Zack Attack & Cody's Return (Sabres Vs. Canucks)

Just 5 days after being traded to the Buffalo Sabres, Cody Hodgson returned to Rogers Arena to face his former team. Buoyed by a quick start, the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5 - 3. Zack Kassian, the player that Hodgson was traded for, had a monster game tallying a goal, an assist, and 7 hits in just under 11 minutes of ice-time. Also, David Booth (my favourite player) had a strong game, scoring 2 of the team's 3 goals. As you will see from the interviews, fans in Vancouve
