Vancouver has a world-class goalie in Roberto Luongo, who I imagine will be a little more focused this season, with not having the added burden of the captaincy, not to mention the distraction of the Olympics. Canucks' management has removed all excuses for Luongo. Now it's all up to him."
Coach Alain Vigneault mixed up the lines for Vancouver's game against Carolina this past Sunday and it seemed to work: the Canucks beat the Hurricanes 5-1.
In the game, 10 different Canucks registered at least a point, including the first goal of the season for Kesler, Raymond, Samuelsson, and Alberts.
In this CCC, I offer up a few different alternatives to the lines, including arranging them by age, weight and birthplace. The results are quite interesting! For fun, I also list my "All-Ti

With three regular season games under their collective belt, the Vancouver Canucks have a win, a regulation loss, and a 'tie' (overtime loss). Tonight during their swing through California, they rematch against the team that gave them the latter.

In a game that featured two teams struggling to score, it was Anaheim's trio of Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan, and Corey Perry that emerged victorious with a combined 7 points in a 4-3 win over Vancouver. The Ducks entered their home opener 0-3, heavily outshot and outscored. After a lambasting by coach Randy Carlyle in this morning's practise, the Ducks responded appropriately, taking advantage of odd-man rushes and scoring chances while the Canucks failed to capitalize on theirs. Tonight would be a good spot for him to join the team. Parros, Voros, Bodie, Brookbank.

The 2010-11 NHL season has started, and the Canucks have 3 points after 2 close games. This CCC is broken up into 2 parts.
In the first part, I offer a few quick observations from the first 2 games, including extrapolating the early stats over a full 82-game season. I also preach patience, perspective, and prudence as we settle in for a long season.
The 2nd half features 2 guest hosts: Pat Teodosio and my son Sean. As I wasn't able to attend nor watch the season opener against the LA K
It's a rare time when I fully agree with Bob McKenzie, and apologies to former NHLers Matt Barnaby and Mike Johnson, but I do agree that the NHL was right to suspend Niklas Hjalmarsson his hit on Jason Pominville who is out indefinitely with a concussion. The other suspension this week was handed to Islanders defenseman James Wisniewski, who made an obscene gesture towards the Rangers' Sean Avery and was likewise suspended for two games. There are two problems here that have my scratching my hea

Hockey pundits and fans talk all they want and make bold predictions but once the puck drops the NHL really reminds us of how futile our efforts really are. Carolina, Toronto, and Dallas are all unbeaten. Pittsburgh is winless. Someone once said that sports is the most successful and best reality show in the world. I'd have to agree. Here are some storylines to keep watching for the rest of the year (or just to save myself some embarrassment, the next week).

"It's the repetition of affirmation that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen." - Muhammad Ali.
For the Vancouver Canucks, in their 40th year in the league, there are only four words: "We. Want. The. Cup."

The Canucks organization has found itself dealing with an unfamiliar 'problem', a lot of depth players. Conversely, compared to years past, they've rarely had to decide what to do with so many cusp players they cannot use.

A little over a month ago, Yann Sauve arrived in Vancouver hoping to impress the Canucks' staff and to battle for a roster spot with the big club.
But fate had other plans for the 20-year old native of Rigaud, Quebec, who was the victim of a motor vehicle accident which left him with multiple abrasions to his face and body last September.
Yann Sauve enjoyed a career year with the St. John Sea Dogs las
For the 2nd CCC of the season, I take you inside Rogers Arena for the annual Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Event (held just before the Open Practice). My special guest in this video is my buddy Mike, a long-time season ticket holder. I'm his season ticket "partner" for this season only.
We got a lot done in 2 hours:
-we enjoyed a continental breakfast
-we viewed some of the NHL awards and made our own predictions for this season
-we witnessed the introduction of the 2010-11 Vancouver
The presence of a minor professional hockey team can be a postive influence in the development of the sport. Southern Vancouver Island is a prime example. Doug Anderson, a popular player with the old pro WHL Victoria Cougars became the head coach of the wildly succesful BCJHL Cougars of the late 1960s. Fourty years later we are seeing the impact of former Salmon Kings from the early years of the franchise in Victoria involved in coaching at various levels. Most played for Bryan Maxwell in the i

As the NHL pre-season comes to a close for the Vancouver Canucks, there is still stiff competition amongst a group of players to make the opening day lineup.
And not surprisingly, in the thick of things is Guillaume Desbiens.
The 25-year old winger of Alma, Quebec has turned heads with his big hits, big frame and the willingness to drop the gloves for big fights.
Guillaume Desbiens scored 34 points in 67 games
As we look forward to one of the most highly-anticipated seasons in Vancouver Canucks history, I'm pleased to present my first CCC: Clay's Canucks Commentary since last Spring.
In this CCC:
-we get rookie Cody Hodgson's autograph and present him with our clever sign: "We've got your back, Cody!"
-view a bit of footage from inside Rogers Arena
-I talk about how prognosticators, predictors, and pundits are picking the Canucks to go far this season
-I interview my kids Sean, Jake, and Kayla
It's finally started. It all began in April, when I sent a long email to the UBC Men's hockey team explaining my love for the game and what I want to do with it in the future, and asking for some kind of a job within the team. Between then and now, after a handful of meetings discussing my role with the team, the season finally arrived, and I couldn't be anymore happier with how it has all turned out on Friday and Saturday.
From April to the moments before the game started, I really didn't kn

Calling it a big year would be an understatement to describe last season for Mason Raymond. After a disappointing 23-point campaign in 08-09 that included a few trips to the press box, the Cochrane, Alberta-native silenced critics with the best argument possible: 25 goals and 53 points.
Benefiting from a permanent fix on the team's second line beside Ryan Kesler and Mikael Samuelsson, the 25-year old proved himself wort
Do you love it, or hate it?
Does it get you feeling excited and pumped up or do you simply ignore it?
I'm talking about the Canucks Entrance Song, Where the Streets Have No Name. It's the song that's played as they take to the ice for warm-up before each game. And there seems to be some debate, albeit all in fun, about the effectiveness of the classic U2 track as a warm-up song.
For as much as I like (nay LOVE) that song, it's time as a pump-up track has come to end. Don't get me w
