TrevLinden16 here with a 12 year old's insight (mine) on day 1 of free agency for the Vancouver Canucks. I tried doing this in video form to post on my channel but its too awkward talking to myself in an empty room.

First up center Joel Perrault was signed on a 1 year deal worth $510,000. He played for the Coyotes last season but only in 2 games. The rest was spent in San Antonio (AHL) and the Swiss league. Expect him to be a 4th liner replacing Ryan Johnson or a 13th forward.

Next, GM Mike Gillis announced the signing of center Manny Malhotra of the San Jose Sharks. This is a 3 year deal worth $7.5 Million (2.5 Million a year) and comes with a No-Trade Clause. Malhotra will likely be the gritty 3rd line center that the Canucks desperately needed providing a decent offensive touch as he finished last season with 14 goals and 33 points in 71 games last season. He had an impressive +17 plus minus last season and his capable of playing the power-play and penalty-kill. Manny is also the husband of basketball star, Steve Nash's sister.

The biggest Canuck signing of the day and one of the biggest signings in the NHL today came with Nashville defenseman Dan Hamhuis. The Smithers, BC native signed a 6 year deal worth $27 million (4.5 a year). He is a great 2 way defenseman and had 24 points in 78 games last season and is capable of logging in big minutes. Hamuis will be the #1 defenseman the Canucks desperately needed joining other acquisitions like Keith Ballard but his signing likely marks the end of Willie Mitchell's tenure in Vancouver.

Mitchell posted an impressive +13 plus minus with only 12 points in an injury shortened 48 game season. Defenseman Kevin Bieksa is also a likely candidate to be traded following the acquisitions of Ballard and Hamhuis.

The last signing of the day (so far) was Alberta native left-winger Jeff Tambellini of the New York Islanders. He is the son of Oiler's GM, Steve Tambellini. Expect him to play the role of 3rd line winger. He was signed to a 1 year contract but the value is still unknown. Tambellini scored 7 goals and 14 points in 38 games last season including a hat-trick early in the season.

"The minute I heard the Canucks made me an offer, it was a no-brainer and I didn't even listen to anything else that came in." - Jeff Tambellini

I wouldn't mind to receive a 3rd-line forward with Stanley-cup-winning experience, along with a first-round or second-round draft pick.
