Here's the goal by Hansen from the WC game today. (credit to colonel_korn from HF boards for finding this on YouTube.

Sick dangle around Tomas Kaberle as Hansen steps around and roofs it from a bad angle.

Gold Jerry, gold.

wow amazing goal!

Never knew he had those kind of moves in him. he just completely owned the d man.

Ho boy.

You mean Delorme is in Spokane this morning to scout Boychuk, amongst others, while they practice.

Can't tell anything by watching games, unless you fight Matt Kasian, which is an auto draft.

But might as well take a looksie at Boychuk in case we trade down to 12-15.

What the hell are you talking about Tim? I played Jr. B and now college hockey. Lots of scouts at games but I don't remember seeing them at my practices??

Hahah, I was taking a shot at Delorme guys.

He once said that you can tell more from a guy in practice.

And then threw in another shot at him drafting Evan Fuller for fighting Matt Kasian.

Ok, is that Kaberle that Hansen undresses there? Pretty impressed.

It is Kaberle.

Nothing wrong with scouting Boychuk. I get the feeling the three best players available at our pick will be Beach, Boychuk and Myers.
Psycho_Path
Great to see Hansen continue his great play he left off with at the end of the season (though not as good in the playoffs). What a goal, and around Kaberle no less, heh.

Did Hansen steal the puck or did the defenseman just lose it? Cause the puck, before Hansen got to it, was lost in the bad quality. Either way, great goal.

I know - except that I can see Delorme getting distracted and getting wowed over another kid that he wasn't supposed to scout.

QUEBEC CITY – As a Vancouver Canucks prospect, Jannik Hansen is expected to provide solid two-way play, with speed, grit, and a little scoring at the NHL level. As a forward for Denmark at the 2008 IIHF World Championship, he’s got a bigger role.

The 22-year-old right wing showed he’s up to the challenge in Denmark’s opener, a 5-2 loss to the Czech Republic. Skating alongside fellow 22-year-old Peter Regin and Kaspar Degn (the greybeard of the line at age 26), Hansen scored a slick first-period goal, driving to the net and beating Milan Hnilicka glove side. Entering this tournament, he had two goals in 10 previous World Championship games (2005, 2006). It’s something he’ll look to build upon heading into Sunday’s crucial Group D game against Italy.

“They play a little rougher style,” Hansen said of the Italians. “We’ve played them before, so we know what to expect from them. We know they’re going to come hard at us. But it’s also a matter of them having to adjust to our style, and we hope we’ll be able to dictate the game a little more.”

Hansen believes special teams could make the difference for the red-and-white squad coached by Mike Sirant. Power play production has long been a cornerstone of Denmark’s offence.

“We didn’t have that many chances yesterday against the Czechs, because they had more puck possession than us,” Hansen said. “With more puck possession comes more opportunities, so hopefully we can make Italy take a few penalties and capitalize on that.”

The 181-cm, 91-kg product of the Rodovre Mighty Bulls system has learned to take advantage of opportunities wherever they arise. The Canucks drafted him in the ninth round (287th overall) in 2004, and few would have guessed back then he’d become the first Dane ever to participate in the NHL playoffs and record a point (one assist in 10 games in 2007). He’s one of the bright lights in a rising Danish youth movement that also includes the likes of Frans Nielsen of the New York Islanders; Lars Eller, a 2007 first-round draft choice (13th overall) of the St. Louis Blues; and the 2008 draft-eligible Mikkel Boedker of the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers.

In Hansen’s second season with Vancouver’s AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, his development could have stalled after he suffered through a broken thumb and a concussion, which limited him to 50 games. But instead, his production increased to 43 points this year, compared to 34 in his rookie campaign.

“Obviously I didn’t enjoy sitting out [with the injuries], but after getting back healthy and getting some games under my skates, I felt like I took a step in the right direction,” Hansen said. “I became a more reliable guy that the Manitoba coaches knew they could count on late in the games. When the coaches trust you, your ice time increases, and that was a step I was hoping to take before the season started.”

In his quest to improve, the Herlev native has genetics on his side, as his father Bent Hansen is considered a Danish hockey legend. The younger Hansen is now expanding the family’s hockey legacy by playing in a World Championship that coincides with the IIHF’s 100th anniversary. But he’s taking it all in stride.

“Playing in these tournaments is always big. To me, it doesn’t really matter if it’s 99 or 101. Being in Canada makes it a little more special, because it’s hockey’s home country. It’s nice to be here.”

After the tournament ends, Hansen will focus on preparing for training camp in the fall with Vancouver. The club fired GM Dave Nonis last month, promptly replacing him with former NHLer and player agent Mike Gillis, but Hansen isn’t preoccupied by the shuffles upstairs.

“It happened midway through our [AHL] playoffs. I’m not worrying about it. I’m just trying to play. For now, it’s still the same guys around the team. They still know the guys they have there. Yes, there’s a new GM, but there’ll be opportunities when training camp starts in September.”

Size--something that wouldn't necessarily be an issue if the team, in general, was bigger.

Having numerous small guys, doesn't cut it.

It bounced over the Czech player's stick and then passed him again on the other side after going off the boards. You can see the goal in higher res here:

Good job by Edler and Hansen! I don't think Edler is one of our prospects anymore, since he's going to be full time on Canucks and stuff.

Hansen with 4GP 2G 2A thus far, accounting for 15% of Danmark's total point production. He's also +1. One of only two players on team Denmark with a plus rating.

Edler too with 3GP 1G 2A +3

Amazing. 24(W)-11(L), 0.908 Save %, and 3 goals, 11 assists during the regular season.

Get this kid some starts with the big club next season!

Could be part of the answer to the Canucks' secondary scoring issues.

Quite remarkable scoring productivity (for a goaltender). wink.gif

Hansen is gooooood.

I was pissed that SHannon, Jaffray and Moran all got more playing time than him.

Hopefully he's a Moneyballer shotcaller and gets to play next season

It's a mistake, he didn't score any points this year.

Just an update on Jannik Hansen here..

Tonight he'll play on a line with Morten Madsen (Houston Aeros) and the highly praised Lars Eller in the middle in the game against Belarus.
They looked pretty good when they were put together for the last ten minutes of the game against the Swiss yesterday.

Hopefully Hansen will benefit from having another guy who played on the slimmer rinks and has AHL speed/grit in Morten Madsen. Should be nice to see what Lars Eller can do with them. He has picked up his play a lot and looks like the prospect he is.

I know Lars and Morten isn't related to the Canucks but they play with Hansen tonight smile.gif

Awesome news, I really liked Eller in 07' and hoped that somehow he would be there at 26th.

Eller Madsen Hansen, sounds like a good line going forward for the Denmark National Team.

They played a really nice first period. Hansen had two shots (not registered as they didn't hit the target) and one just went outside the post.

(They only play US/Canada games for the WC in the opening rounds)

OT: The Blues signed Eller to a 3 year pro contract and will be on his way to St.Louis for physical testing.

And Ryan White (CGY, WHL) was signed by Montreal.

And Andy Strickland is saying STL signed Oshie too.

STL has a very bright future, just need a real goaltender.

I think I would easily trade Schnieder for Oshie or Berglund.

Denmark won 3-2 in overtime. Hansen had no points in the game but finished +1..

He had 2G 2A in 6 games and had the best +/- on the team with +1 for the tournament.

Yeah, I think we'd be able to wrangle Berglund easier than Oshie.

St.Louis brass are ridiculously high on Oshie and his work ethic, grit, tenacity and character.

This is the kind of trade I can see happening, one blue chip prospect for another (each from a position of strength to fill a position of weakness)

Wow Berglund would be a huge prospect, didn't he have an injury earlier this year over in Sweden? Was it serious?

I think we can get better value for Schnieder than that, especially if he manages to stick around and lights it up as the starter for the Moose. Granted, my knowledge of Eller isn't that vast, but from what I've heard that's my opinion.

Berglund might crack the Blues this year, was one of the last cuts last year, but may be in the AHL for the year.

Either this year or Next year.
