How long do we have to wait before a "knee-jerk" reaction becomes reality?

These boards are constantly filled with arguements about Naslund and why he should be moved etc. People argue back with comments like '"why make a knee jerk reaction so early in the season etc".

How long do we have to wait before a "knee-jerk" reaction becomes reality? We have seen Naslunds production decrease on a consistent basis since the 03-04 season. Waiting for him to "snap back" to his old form has become detremental to this hockey club. In fact I am sure that when Dave Nonis goes to see what he can get for Nazzy, the well will be dry...there will be nothing coming back our way...we've waited this one out too long...

i think maybe instead of being worried about "knee jerk" reactions, you should maybe consider his NO TRADE CLAUSE

sigh...

YOU CAN ASK HIM TO WAIVE IT...IT HAS BEEN DONE SEVERAL TIMES

I'm sure he'll jump at the opportunity to move his young family...after all, that's why he got it in the first place...so he could waive it

A NTC can be waived, you know. NTCs is just a way to avoid other teams to constantly asking for that player, and it's also a way for the own team and player to have stability, knowing that he'd most likely to stick with the team for that duration of the time, but a NTC can be waived when the team feels that it's necessary to move the player in order to improve the team, or when the player wants to move on. A player who doesn't have a NTC can be traded any minute as soon as the GM agrees to a deal without the player's input, but a player who has a NTC requires an agreement to waive it before a trade can be made.

i'm well aware that a no trade contract can be waived...i'm also well aware that it has been done...however not very often....usually when a player is miserable in a particular city or with his particular team....or, at the trade deadline when a player is sought after for a playoff run and would like a shot at a cup that he won't have with a cellar dwelling team

Do you honestly think that Naslund would agree to waiving it?....He loves this city, as does his family....things would have to be really bad for him to consider leaving....and no, i don't consider a tough 4 and 6 start to the year as really all that bad

the sky is, in fact, not falling
Luongo07
never said the sky was falling because of the 4 - 6 start, this has been building for 3 - 4 consecutive seasons

TAKE THE BLINDERS OFF MAN, THE CANUCKS ARE SIMPLY NOT VERY GOOD!!!

I dont see that happening but if the slim chance arose, you can bet it would be at the deadline to a serious contender only.

edit: in addition to the NTC, there's also the fact that he's a UFA at the end of the year, so that would scare most teams away.

I don't agree, I still think this team is good. Right now we aren't playing that well. I say grade how good this team is once we turn it around.

We'll see....but i think i'll base my judgement on that after more than 10 games instead of panicking and saying trade this guy/fire that guy like half the posters on the CDC

We will see, but how long must we wait? Until its too late again? I am sick of the acceptance of mediocracy.

certainly more than 10 games into a season where far too many regulars were injured in the preseason to give this team a chance to gel....give them another 10 games and see where they're at....20 games gives a good look at the team with still enough time to make changes if need be

to be honest, this team should make the playoffs this year and be much like last year, a possible cinderella team....do i put them at the elite level?....no way, that would be unrealistic....i think they are a solid team with a great goalie and a very deep D that just isn't playing up to their own level right now....give them a chance to turn it around, it's very early
Luongo07
Blinders man Blinders...don't think that what you saw last year will happen again
BedBeats
Whatever...its still early....and when Nazzy did pot some points people were happy.

Its not just Nazzy now, thats accountable......the Twins havent looked very dangerous recently.

Naslunds 6 million dollar salary is a leetch on the team. Anyone who argues that is stoopid. If he was making 3.5-4 I'd be quite happy with him.

I think what the guy means is that we arent that GOOD. Period.

The problem is the EXPECTATIONS we have for the team.

Sure they are better than 4 -6. Sure Salo coming back will add a slight edge.

Salo is no Scott Niedameyer though. He isnt going to revolutionize the team.

Sedins are the Sedins. Luongo is Luongo.

The teams sucess comes down to the Naslund line. They MUST produce on a regular basis to take the pressure off Luongo and the Sedins.

Otherwize teams check the Sedins into the ground, and sooner or later get to Luongo.

We need more scoring.

did you see anyone argue that in this thread?

Me neither
Luongo07
I will accept the arguement when the Canucks show a hint of interest in a game. So far the squeaked a victory out of Calgary, they beat the lowly Oilers and some how managed to beat Columbus even though they did not get a shot for 30 mins.

One step might be to have a meeting with Naslund and if he really doesn't believe in the system, he should hand over the "C" for someone else. I would think Naslund would be better off without the "C". He doesn't seem to be enjoying things out there. Maybe if some of the workload was off his shoulders he could concentrate on his play. I'm in favor of Mitchell but the way he's played lately I don't know. At least I know Mitchell would carry some weight in the room, and he would definately be more vocal. I think Naslund still has the skills, but I think that concussion has sapped some of the fire from him.

How do you know that. Have you been in the canucks dressing room before the games? didnt think so. For all any of us know he could be 1000 times more vocal. Im not saying he is, Im just saying we cant judge how vocal the guy is
