if your trying to go cheap DONT buy brand new....check ebay for slightly used gear.

look for "pro returns".These are NHL level pads that were used for only a few games and sent back to the company because they were not to the goaltender's liking.

I won a set of Trevor Kidd's slightly used game worn Florida Panther's Brians Air Pac pads a few years ago for only $250:

what a steal. wink.gif

seriously check eBay...you will find some real good deals.

last week I saw Ray Emery's 07-08 Ottawa Brians pads(with blocker+gloves) and Sean Burkes Brians Flyers pads sellingfor around $500-650

Go to SportsTrader in Victoria, they always have a good selection of used and new gear. It's kind of a trek and effort to head on over to Victoria, but it could be worth it. Do it on a Saturday, the ferry is only 20 dollars for the car and 5 dollars a person one way.

As for shops in Vancouver, Cyclone Taylor has a fairly decent stock of goaltending equipment. http://www.cyclonetaylor.com/contact.html

For me, I would recommend www.goaliemonkey.com They've got just about all the current models and brands of goalie gear. Only problem with Goalie Monkey is they wont sell RBK equipment to Canadian customers, so if you know someone in the States, that would be helpful.

As for RBK goalie equipment, here is my take on it. The trapper and blocker are alright, it was really easy to break into it. As for the pads, I've got a pair of 6K pads. The price for these pads are definitely reasonable in terms of price range. What I like most about the RBK pads is how they dont get in the way or lock up when you play an open-leg butterfly. My advice is, if you can spare the extra coins, go with the Itech X-Wing, those pads do wonders.

I have heard horror stories from the cheaper RBK series goal pads. everything from flimsy leather straps to poor construction.

I bought a set of vaughn epic 8600 goalie pads from goaliemonkey.com last friday, and they are already here. cost me just over 500 bucks.

ordering online is good if you know your sizes. even if you arent to sure, goaliemonkey will refund your order in exchange for the right fit.

cyclone taylors does have a price match guarantee for all their goalie equipment, so they arent that bad either.
