I kinda agree. Hes a staal you know hes gonna make the NHL.
Edit. RW shoots R. Something we also lack.

My gut reaction to not drafting a Staal brother is mitigated by memories of Fedor Fedorov and Steve Kariya.

Based on his point totals and skating ability, it's looking like he will probably be the worst of the four. There is nothing to suggest he is even close in terms of skill to any of his brothers.

apparently an article by his dad said that he though he was the most talented brother but he didn't try as hard as teh others.

Both Eric and Jordan have stated that they know Jared is the most talented.

Both Eric and Jordan went 2nd overall... Jared was projected as a 2nd rounder at best.
There's talent, and then there's doing something with that talent. The same reason why Gillis stated that we want grit and character.
If Jared is lazy, that's a problem, if he doesn't go into the dirty, high traffic areas, that's a problem. Eric and Jordan are not NHL scouts, and neither are we. Most teams had already passed on him twice (some 3 or 4 times) by the time Phoenix took him (and Phoenix passed on him twice as well).

Sauve was a very good pick, I would not trade him for lil Staal. (I don't literally mean trade... I just mean pick him instead of)

If his name was Jared Smith the majority here would want nothing to do with him.

People are mesmorized by the last name. I am very happy with our pick. If the staff works well with Sauve, he can become a bruising, hard shooting top 3 Dman for us in the long run.

Can't go wrong with a guy who models his game after Dion Phaneuf.
Especially with the loss of Bourdon, this shores up our D-core.

I really wanted Staal, but after Bourdon's passing I would have to say this is a really good pick.

I thought Sauve would've been picked in the 1st round for sure.

Considered the most talented amongst his brothers, I wonder how he feels to be the only Staal drafted later than 1st round however only time will tell a couple years down who really is the better one. Anyway, I'm sure he's just glad to be drafted after all.

True or False: Pronger was on the ice when the Bertuzzi incident happened?
True. Although not Chris but Sean. He was also drafted by the Canucks.
True or False: Their mother is from Finland?
True.

why would you want jared staal he sucks. He has potential but so did daigle. Would you trade yan sauve who has a better chance sticking with the club and actually doing something than staal. If we were to trade down to getstaal we probably would have gotten a 6th rounder and would have picked another prab rai. Im extremely happy with our pick.

That is a pretty big issue. The best players are hard working and skilled. This is especially concerning considering his parents were probably strict and he lived on a farm. Maybe he is burnt out from working too hard on the farm and decided to slack in hockey.
Vertikal
Jun 28 2008, 12:23 PM
Maybe he didn't even want to play hockey, maybe he just ended up playing because his brothers did, and hey, if you had 3 older brothers who were drafted with parents who push you that direction...I dunno I'm just saying this could really explain his lack of effort in hockey. Plus if he is the most talented that just means it's always "been too easy" so he doesn't try anymore. He just might be great one day, but Suave was a good pick for the Canucks right now, he replaces Bourdon(RIP) a nd could turn out to be a real steal in the 2nd.
