  1. Canucks should consider bringing over Rodrigo Abols from Sweden. 6'5 195lbs 18 goals 8 assist in 44 games in top tier Sweden. The Canucks only hold his rights for one more year I think.

Remember Guddy was at his best in the playoffs playing with Brian

campbell.  Guddy will be the perfect partner for Hughes.  Guddy does all the heavy lepigting along the walls, and frees up pucks for Hughes to collect, and skate up the ice.  This will force other teams to sag off on their forecheck, so they don’t get trapped.  In turn that gives Guddy more time to make plays, which he needs.

Green will know this; he’s a hockey guy.

The only problem with that Alf is that he's too slow to even get to the puck before the forecheckers do.

First gif is him getting beat to the puck by the forecheckers.

Second gif is him unleashing his inner pylon and allowing a prime scoring chance. He then stands directly in front of Del Zotto because he has no idea where he's supposed to be there.

Third gif is him, again, getting blown out by a forward on a simple dump and chase play. He can't even get in the opponent's way because they just skate by him. Literally 0 lateral movement.

I survived the blizzard of 2019,but just barely.

The greater Victoria and greater Vancouver areas are always so much fun in the snow. After everyone has played bumper cars then they bring out the salt trucks and plows. Most of the RCMP cruisers are absent from sight just in case they have to get out of their cars to help direct traffic to alleviate the problems.

The highways are skating rinks with no credible help given to maintain order and keep things flowing properly.

Kulbakov is either outstanding or absolutely terrible, and I've seen both sides in a single game. But wow 8 goals against in 43 minutes is pretty brutal.

His GAA is now up to 3.98. Which is still the best in his AHL career thus far (3.99 with Cleveland last year).

    4. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

@canucklehead44:  the Comets D is awful so I’m not sure how much of that you can blame on Kulbakov.  Forwards stink as well.  Roster is full of essentially ECHL rejects or anyone else they find with a pulse that’ll sign a PTO.  Been that way for a number of seasons now.  Scary just how bad that would be without Demko.  Not the kind of environment you want you’re non blue chip prospects to develop.

When was the last time the Canucks have ever been accused of being overly rough with opponents? 2011? Because I've been on board with the team through all the lows of the rebuild and this feels way much better than watching the Sedins being abused with no recourse.

      @Tortorella's Rant

If he was really that good, some other team would've signed him for cheap. Pretty sure we bought him out, did we not?

I really really really wanted to like Ballard. Grabner and a 1st (Howden was selected; turned out to be a bust) was traded in exchange for that 4M anchor that Florida clearly didn't want. It turned out that both teams lost that trade, ironically. Ballard was a giveaway machine. He was so clearly overpaid for what he brought to the table.  And we took it off FLA's hands.

Del Zotto's not that bad. His salary (3 M) is already better than what Ballard's was, with more offensive output.

    3. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

Ballard *was* a top 4 D prior to being a Canuck.  That's what was hoped he'd be in signing with the Canucks.  Problem was, it was all a mirage.  Didn't help his 'style' didn't fit-in with Vigneault system. Guy rarely plays a full season - that actually was one of Ballard's "strengths" prior to being a Canuck.  Hardly missed any games.  Becomes a Canuck and the promptly misses a good chunk of games in his 1st season as a Canuck (not a healthy scratch but out due to an injury).  Happened with Hamhuis as well (missed very few games).

We should have our water tested...:P

hopefully we get out of this mini slump soon  figure we are 5 weeks away from being fully healthy  i feel like benning will pull a few trades when we are healthy  and gaudette will go back to utica, mcewen deserves a call up  big winger hits hustles scores  be nice to see a line of virtanen sutter and mcewen

    4. Baer.

Archibald seems to be holding that spot ahead of McEwen, Utica is pretty torn up with injuries too, maybe that's why they wanna keep the core pieces in the minors. Archie earned his spot

    4. SabreFan1

      SabreFan1

@NuxfanabroadThat's not what they're saying.  One or two seasons of consistent injuries made the Canucks outliers.  This season after season of much higher than average injuries establishes a pattern.  If you can track down where that pattern began, you can find an answer.  If it tracks down to roughly the same year that the S&C coach began, then it's worth switching him out for someone new.  An organization like the Canucks would have their pick of the available litter on the best S&C coaches.  Changing non-hockey support staff is easy enough to do and if you're wrong you will still have a world class expert running the program in the gym.  If you're correct, then the product on the ice will drastically improve.

Melnyk wants to operate at the cap floor.  Boucher said if he clears waivers he'll put him back in his exact same spot in the lineup.  It's not a coaching decision but a financial one.

Selling the team to a real owner who cares about winning could really help with that bum's finances.

  20. Regardless of whether they are ready or not, I think Juolevi and Hughes need another year to develop. There should be no rush to get them on to the team. We don't want to turn into Edmonton...

I just don't think Juolevi or Hughes will develop getting lit up on a bad Canucks team that will be lucky to get 35 wins. How is that supposed to help his confidence?

    3. 48MPHSlapShot

      48MPHSlapShot

Kinda seems like a backtrack. Your initial post simply read "regardless of whether they are ready or not". If they're not ready for "every other facet of the game, then they clearly wouldn't be "ready".

Just on a quick glance at our draft history under Gillis. Out of 35 players drafted, 4 currently have NHL careers- And Kevin Connauton is one of them.

I'm a bit disappointed. Cassels was improving each year and especially in this most recent year. I'd hope that Utica would sign him, but I bet he can get a two-way NHL contract with another team if he wants.

"That 2013 class would have been a tragedy without Horvat"...

If you only make one "hit" like that each season, it actually isn't that bad.  Unfortunately for Gillis (and us), he couldn't do that.
