  1. [PGT] Vancouver Canucks vs. Washington Capitals

Why would Gudbranson accept that? I don't like the guy, but he is going into the open market. If I'm him, I demand every dollar. Some idiot GM will pay it. Case in point: Loui Eriksson.

Do you think Gudbranson was more than a 3rd pairing defenceman to start the year? When has he demonstrated that he is more than that? His intangibles (leadership and grit) haven't translated to success for this team; acquiring him was an overpay by Benning and calls into question the team's ability to pro-scout. The only excuse I can offer Benning is that his team building strategy was compromised by our meddling owner.

I'm not mad at all (hard to get a read people's mindset on forums, I know). Honestly, I just didn't get your post. #1: Could they be moved despite the NTC/NMC? Sure. Do I think it'll happen? Not a chance. There would be a significant backlash against the Canucks (if not from fans, from the general public). With the Canucks not selling out, they can't afford the hit to the brand and are not going to alienate potential fans any more than possible. #2: We agree they are excellent people. #3: The Canucks could exercise their right not to extend them a contract. If the Sedins stick to what they have said publically, they won't sign with another team and will retire (from the NHL at least). Personally, I wish they would sign with a contender just to get another run, but that's just me. I hope I didn't sound overly defensive. That said, I sincerely think the Sedins get too much crap from the public. However, here are a few things which even I have trouble defending (like the inability to split them up on the PP for example). In terms of ice time, I think they have been handled appropriately by the coach.

@ janisahockeynut You can't trade either. They have no move clauses and even if they waive, we can't eat both of their salaries. Yes, they have made significant contributions to the community. They haven't earned the right; they've always had it. They are the only people who decide if/when they retire. Not the Canucks, Aquilinis, Linden, Benning or anyone in this forum. All the Canucks can do is decide not to offer them an extension.
