    I'm kinda thankful for NHL officiating after hearing about MLB's officiating today.  It's appalling that Angel Hernandez still has a job, never mind working playoff games.

      Wait, MLB doesn't have a say in whether someone can be an umpire or not? How does that work?

      From what I've read, it's part of the MLB's CBA with the umpire union.  After X amount of years of service, umpires achieve a "tenure" status that prevents them from being dismissed.  So if an umpire keeps his job at the major-league level for a certain period of time, he essentially has a job for life
