The difference has way less to do with their size vs how they play defence. I was not on the Hughes or Bomqvist bandwagon. Hughes won me over with his play without the puck. A work in progress, but at least he can play defence. Bomqvist has great offence, but has no defence. The two concussions this year are concerning. Both are high risk vs high reward players. Hughes has a higher floor, and has an equal ceiling. Hughes’s game has really improved over this year. Compare his WJC play to the WC play. I did not see the same progress with Bomqvist. Not so say that I am right. Somehow I would love to graft Bomqvist’s shot into Hughes.

Even the second Rasmus from this year... Sandin looks to be a very smart d man. Him and a second from TO for Tanev? I already have him ahead of Liljegren in TO’s depth pool. Foote has been on my want list since his draft year. There are are lots of potential targets. Jokiharju is another. With hughes and Woo, maybe JB targets a forward.
  3. [SIGNING] Oilers sign Evan Bouchard

Bakersfield sucks... has to pull over there on a trip back from Mexico in a VW van with my now wife. All I can say is I was glad not get robbed leaving the place. Got the van fixed ASAP, thank PEP boys.
  4. [Report] DiPietro could stick in NHL if he has a good camp

Didn’t Demko get added to the US team a few years ago? Hughes played this Summer and is still in college. Great that Dipeitro was part of team Canada, but he was also cut from the WJC so read the tea leaves on that. Not good enough for the WJC but is good enough for the WC men’s team... Europe is the only other option. It could have helped Virtannen and I can’t see it hurting Dipeitro unless Windsor trades him ASAP to a contender. This is whole story sounds like trade smoke to make a deal for Dipeitro in jr. Windsor is creating smoke and hoping for fire.
  5. [Report] DiPietro could stick in NHL if he has a good camp

Cause one camp could wipe out two years of pro development?? Miss that good west coast weed, cause your must be smoking some outrageous $&!#.
  6. [Report] DiPietro could stick in NHL if he has a good camp

I don’t see that happening. Demko and Dipeitro could already be an improvement over our current tandem. But to piss off Demko after his solid play and development to rush Dipeitro is something only Mad Mike Milbury would do.

Would love to trade for Callan Foote. Tanev for Foote straight up? He could be Seabrook to Hughes’s Kieth. OJ and Woo on the other pairing and Trymakin and Stecher or Guddy for the last one. That is a playoff defence for the next decade. All in for Hughes this draft. Great story and will give he NHL what it loves, media.

Agree, just think that Demko will be in Utica until one tender is traded and Green gets the tire fire defence calmed down. Too many changes to throw Demko into the mix IMO. He is the future for sure, just don’t want him to be ruined by the mess we are in.

It is easy to see how the less flashy player is harder to appreciate. OJ will never be the guy to get people to jump out of their seats. That’s why he was picked. With our defence, having a guy that keeps things simple and can be relied to defend is worth its weight in gold. I did like the atheltic article, thanks Gorku. My one critique is the authors definitive statement that OJ lacks the ability to be creative with the puck. Yes he isn’t the best skating d man in a generation, thanks for falling to 7 Quinn Hughes, but how many young 1st year pro d men are encouraged to ‘be creative with the puck.’? I would almost garuantee that the first time OJ tried to pull a move like that, even if he scored, he would have been benched. It didnt seem that his coach gave OJ much latitude. Tough love is the Finish way.

Your right, another decent depth guy that could unseat a current NHL regular. I don’t think Pouliot is in danger at Camp. He and Goldy should have a the first quarter to show they either belong or get demoted. No givens this year. Finally.

No $&!#. The instant gratification fan drives me crazy. The guy just turned 20 and will be the most skilled defender on the roster this season... at least until Hughes signs

OJ is another sure fire London Knight. He is a guy that will be a Hamhuis style d man. He could easily lead the blue line in points this season if he starts in Van. We will definitely have our eyes on Hughes and many won’t notice OJ once he gets comfortable in the show. That’s what is great about good him. He is the type of player that you don’t notice, but other teams will. He was considered unforecheckable in junior.

The big Russian giant comes out of nowhere and takes the chair from Matt’s hands, picks up Quinn and they beat the hell out Matt, his brother how’s up to help. Matt leaves with the chair bent around his head vowing revenge. He is consoled by Johnny Hockey. The Guddy monster roars from the dressing room and Bettman starts to shake with fear and quickly drops the 1st and runs out a side exit. The fans go wild as the Hughes bros are each carried out, held aloft by Tryamkin and Guddy...
  14. Benning, Goldobin, and a logjam of forwards?

Vets will be moved or their contracts will start to expire as the young guys are ready to take their spots. Tanev to TO for Sandin and a pick? Or Edler either gives the nucks a sweetheart deal 2.5 for 3 years or is moved. Gagner and MDZ are all but dealt at the TDL, Granlund and Baer could be moved. Lots of fringe guys can be sold for picks or depth prospects without any fuss. No worries there for me. I don’t see us as a playoff team, but Utica wins the Calder this year. Markstrom and Nielsen are draft insurance. The team can play fire wagon hockey showing off our new young forwards, our defence needs more and our goalies suck. Luckily the fans and ownership will that the Calvary is coming. The hype will be around Pettersson and the Hughes brothers. All about next year. This could be the first year that a riot breaks out at the draft if Hughes doesn’t go to Vancouver

It is the story book moment that the WWE was built on.... Sorry, meant that The NHL was built on
