If greed wins the day and the NHL expands to 36 teams. That might be it for me. I see nothing but disaster with that. Short term gain for long term headaches. And Vancouver will never win a cup.
4 teams with the generous expansion rules? It will destroy existing teams rosters.

You get one free punch to any active NHL player without any repercussions, legal or physical. Who would you choose? Remember, they have to be an active NHL player.
I would say Trevor Zegras.

It’s only a matter of time before a new thread about a certain location of Tim Hortons in Burnaby that has egg laying insects pops up with an updated story from The Outhouse Times.

So. Any predictions where Connor Bedard will finish this year? I'm going to be massively conservative and say 50-60 Points. Anything above that is gravy. It's quite the jump from WHL to NHL. I'm not saying he isn't super talented. But you got to learn the ropes in the NHL.

I'm just saying, the Central took a big hit and don't look as competitive as the Pacific anymore, IMO 5 teams from Pacific take 5 of the 8 playoff spots, Canucks one of them

@Ghostsof1915 sadly I think you're right. Nashville took a step forwards without question while it appears the Jets and Flames took the steps back. LA got better, Anaheim is a wildcard due to their goaltending. LA got better. Arizona is still up in the air. I don't see St Louis having a terrible year either and now we're dealing with the Bedard effect.
So it comes down to are we better than Arizona, Anaheim, San Jose, Chicago, Calgary and Winnipeg. The thing is, we don't even have to have them be appreciably better than us. We just have to be mediocre against them and we will miss the playoffs because the teams ahead of us right now are still that far ahead of us.
I still think we'll miss again this year but what happens after is what will matter

#AssetManagement Toronto edition
Here is Toronto's trade history of 1st rounders and add-ons since 2019
2019 - Grundstrom (2nd) Durzi (2nd) 1st round pick (22nd OA) for Muzzin
2020 - gave away 13OA (Seth Jarvis) to get rid of the Marleau contract
2021 - traded away 25OA (Corson Ceulemans) to acquire Noesen and Foligno... both no longer with the TML
2022 - gave away to get rid of Mrazek contract... did get back a 2nd round pick (Fraser Minten) who had a very meh season and very underwhelming playoff as a D+1 player.
2023 - traded away 25OA (Otto Stenberg) to acquire Ryan O'Reilly who signed with the Preds as a UFA.
2024 - still owned by the TML but will probably have to attach it to Murray to trade away that boat anchor of a contract
2025 - traded away with other prospects to acquire Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty
the Leafs have traded away 6 first round picks for 1 playoff series win and only have McCabe and Lafftery left to show for it.-
@Bob.Loblaw now...go back to about 2004. How does it look since then?
Bottom line is if we're speaking about bad management regarding assets and picks, the Leafs are easily as bad or possibly worse than the Canucks since 2019

Gotta love the wannabe mods on the “Adults Table.” Removed by Heffy for calling out a different mod. Didnt violate any rules. Just called out an abuse of ‘power’. Guess wannabe mods dont like criticism?
-
Literally LITERALLY a series of comments about important it is to have people on there with different opinions to keep others honest and critique while offering a different point of view. A place where you can be open minded and call out others for boorish opinions and for acting like petulant know it alls.
But you got removed for calling out a different mod...by a guy who regularly suggests physically harming or murdering other hockey players on different teams and committing genocide against citizens of a nation in conflict because he is on the other side; for not acting like an adult?
K. Seems about right for that person.

This myopic nonsense means nothing. BC's population increase 1.2 million in 12 years and saw a mere 4% emissions growth while almost tripling its LNG development, increasing development to unheard of levels AND nearly tripling its port systems for imports.
Nova scotia saw an almost 70% drop in coal usage for the majority of its energy needs, saw an abandonement in its entirety by numerous oil and gas developments off of sable island and increased its renewable energy sources from 12% to 27% in that same time frame with a promise to be off of coal by 2030.
Sorry, this story doesn't tell you what it is supposedly hoping you it does.

Wow. Zdeno Chara just finished the Boston Marathon under 4 hours. Damn.

NHL Draft Lottery for Bedard to take place on May 8. Some lucky team is going to get him, #jealous.

7-2-1 in the last 10 with one of the easiest remaining schedules in the entire league. I'm afraid we've seen this scenario before....

What the ever loving hell will TSN and sportsnet talk about on friday? lol.
10 straight hours of coverage talking about Chycrun and fabricating more trade proposals than the armchair fans of HF Boards? -
Dan Murphy is actually trying to compare the Horvat trade to the Linden trade to the Islanders when the Canucks got Bertuzzi & Mccabe. Totally ridiculous. Bertuzzi & Mccabe were already established players.

I mean, at least we have Garland and OEL and all that sweet sweet cap space.
Right?

@DazzleI will again play devils advocate and remind people that Gills was GM of the year, 2 presidents trophies, 2 conference titles, 5 divisional titles and 5 straight playoff appearances with an SCF berth while being the titular GM from the end of the 2008 season through the end of the 2014 season. Finishing only once outside of the top 10 int he entire league.
Gillis never had a chance to stockpile picks or build the team as he was chasing championships with one of the most consistently best teams in the league over a 5 year span. He left the team with Horvat and not much else but he had nothing in which to build with as in his 6 drafts he only had 5 first round draft picks. Two of them top 10 in Hodgson and Horvat. Hodgson was not due to him and Horvat was due to a trade. His average draft position was 26.
Benning on the other hand drafted top 10 consistently and left the team with exactly 1 good draft in 2014 and nothing else. Traded our 1st round pick twice and drafted two top 10 busts in Virtanen and Juolevi (I understand the arguments there). He also only finished in the playoffs twice with one of those years being the covid year bubble team. The complaints about "gillis leaving us with nothing" are a decade ago and anyone drafted by him would be almost 30 or over. We're a team with zero assets needing yet another rebuild and that's entirely now on benning

Watch Florida win the draft lottery, which means Montreal gets Bedard. Imagine getting a potential lottery pick for Ben Chiarot.
-
@Dazzle, funny enough if you go back last year. Anaheim was 2nd in our division heading in to March 3rd. But if you go back to 2019. Anaheim had already started shedding players/vets/contracts for picks and prospects. They in turn signed replacement players to single and 2 year term contracts (I think the max prior to this year was a 3 year)
Every single trade they made was towards futures away from Getzlaf and the old core.
https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/ducks
They made absolutely no compunctions against signing and trading players or shedding aging players for picks the second they could. THAT is the fundamental difference between vancouver and the Ducks right now. I made the statement that Anaheim would do vastly better than they had to start the year and was wrong; but look at the young core I just listed and then compare it to what we have.
Damning

@Dazzle you absolutely know he's going to Anaheim or San Jose with Fantilli or San Jose drafting 2nd or 3rd just so we can watch Bedard/Fantilli and McDavid torch this team for the next decade or more
Bedard/McTavish/Zegras/Gaucher/Pastujov/Perreault/Tracey all at forward and then that defense of Hinds/Zellweger/Mintyukov/Helleson with not a single one of them currently over the age of 21.
That's not including whoever they draft this year as well with 4 picks in the first 2 rounds and their entire roster over the age of 25 up for grabs including Shattenkirk/Klingberg who will return at least late 1sts
I am honestly saddened by how fast and efficiently Anaheim turned their entire prospect pool around while still holding additional picks this and next year without making any major moves but having assets ready to go to cup contending teams

The debate of value for Hoggie is surprising honestly. We really underappreciate our players

@hammertimeI 100% think it's a coaching issue. BB is just not the coach for him.

@6of1_halfdozenofotherI will repeat that until the day I die watching the Skinner contracts etc. They literally can not control themselves.
