So you're one of these guys that wants to stay competitive while rebuilding. Doesn't work that way bud. Who cares if we make the team weaker, which we wouldn't be doing anyhow. Tanev, and Sutter are well past their best before date and Baertschi are always injured and Schaller clearly didn't want to play here. I'm quite sure canucks brass would be thrilled to get these guys to move on. I would've included Lui E in there but that one is almost impossible to move. We want to look to the future when we can really challenge for the cup not sneak into the playoffs and draft middle of the pack every year.

please correct me if I'm wrong about this, I'm not that versed in how the cap works or ways to rid yourself of unwanted players. I know the 'nucks need to rid themselves of some players and their contracts. Say they wanted to trade Tanev,(just an example) there's about 4 similar to his situation. Couldn't they go to a team that has inquired about him in the recent past and take whatever they are offering in draft choices, even if its lower than they wanted, maybe a 2nd or 3rd or a 3rd and 4th without getting any players in return. That way they get rid of an oft injured player and his contract at least they get some draft choices and clear the books which would add cap space. Then they could do the same with Sutter, some team would take him and the Canucks could clear their books of his and Tanev's salary and they're on there way to getting some wiggle room. Then they could get creative. Possibly Schaller back to Boston along with Baertschi with a couple of draft choices in return or a player of equal salary as those 2. Except that Benning doesn't know what the word creative means. Anyway you get my point.

May the best men win. except it wont be best man win it'll be favorite of the coaches win, No matter how poor they are playing. it'll be almost a whole year of ineptitude before they make a change. Even then they're so in love with THEIR GUYS they won't lose face and cut ties with their picks. They'd rather show they suck at trades and free agents

Too bad for Jake. It looks like another player they're trying to turn into the player they'd like him to be instead of letting him be himself. Who tells a player you've got to get a hit a shift( or period) when he can freewheel within their system and still be an asset doing what he does best. That being using his size, speed and shot and letting the hits come to him, instead of chasing hits all over the ice and getting out of position. that way he loses all the qualities that made him a 6th pick overall. And is getting $&!# on by Green because he's always out of position. They are going to confuse him and lose him and this has been a Canuck trait of bad management of players since the beginning. Haven't these canuck coaches learned anything in almost 50 yrs.?

Lets not get into semantics. We all know its name calling as well as directing me to a site that confirmed what I said. I prefer not to name call but in this case I believe he deserved it.
-
Can you show me where Pears called you a name? There you go
-
Tell that to him.

I never said anything of the kind. Read my post again moron.

You misunderstood. I didn't mean it will go downhill if he doesn't sign here. I'm saying he may decide not to sign here if this season keeps going the way it is. Of course he's going to say he wants to play here. What else is he going to say?
-
Maybe you should read it again. He hasn't signed yet.
-
Nothing is signed yet. Other college players have declined to sign with the team that drafted them so don't count your chickens yet. This could all go (further) downhill in a hurry.

I know its very early but after watching Erikkson for 9 games with the canucks I've yet to see what his offensive strengths are. He's not a strong skater, doesn't have a good shot, doesn't go after the puck with any intensity, can't dangle and what we were told was his greatest strength, his ability to stand in front of the net and score on rebounds and deflections, so called dirty goals, hasn't materialized. For a player who has scored between 25 and 30 goals the last 8 years I haven't seen even a glimpse of any of the strengths I mentioned. We got him to score goals, at least show us you are capable of doing so, even if they don't go in for a little while, at least show us something, hopefully soon.
-
You misunderstood. I wasn't saying he can't score goals and I have no doubt he will start scoring soon. But a shooter is someone who can score goals from almost anywhere on the ice because of his shot and release. Overtime he develops the instinct to shoot first because thats his bread and butter. Like I said every top line and pp needs a guy like that. Erikkson doesn't have that ability but he gets his goals close to the net on rebounds and deflections. He's basically a clone of the sedins in the way they play, pass first. Its been proven in the past, the Sedin have more success with a shooter on their line instead of a passer type player. Anson carter, Vrbata, Hansen, even Burrows who had the most success with the twins, didn't have a great shot but a few years ago it was adequate and he always shot when he had a chance. He was also pretty fast.
-
Bo is an everything guy, he can shoot, he can setup, and he can backcheck, and forecheck Possibly another John Toews. He's a winner that makes everybody better.

In Ian MaIntyre's column today he suggested Erikkson wasn't a shooter, more of a passer and good in front of the net where he scores most of his goals. I Haven't watched him much until he came here and from what I've seen this seems to be true. My question then is why the hell they are they using him with the Sedins, 2 other passers. That makes no sense at all, especially on the pp. Their pp right now is 3 passers somebody who has to be inside the circle to score and Larsen who is still trying to hit the net. You've got to have a shooter on your top scoring line. That may have worked on the big ice, but not in the nhl, Its a different type of game. Rabata was the perfect winger for the Sedins and it worked great the first year but for some reason they decided he would be moved off their line and they used Hansen, which worked great too, he not only can shoot but he's got speed, something the Sedins lack. I'm not saying Erikkson with the Sedins will be a complete disaster I'm sure if they stay together they'll eventually score a few but I think his assets would be better served with 2 different wingers.I'd like to see Lui with Bo and Baert, move Hansen up to the Sedins for now, then when Rodin comes back try him with the twins,I think that would be a good line.If Rodin plays well with the twins put Hansen back with Sutter or preferably Bo. w
