  1. For a poster that infers great knowledge of the game you do seem to let personal feelings get involved quite a bit, that is not a bad thing because you are a fan and want to take ownership of/in the team. BUT To ignore that season that Torts had here, events outside of his or anyone else's control and just blame him is not right. That year, the team had almost no practice time available due to the compressed schedule of the Olympics. The number of back to back games. The shear number of injuries to all the core players and both Sedins, only one player played 81 games that year, Garrison. He got the most out of Kassian than any coach he has had. He had more prospects play more meaningful icetime than Willie and Green combined. The team finished over .500, better than the last two years. He did say the core needed changing and was vilified, Benning/Linden say the same thing the next season and are awarded genius level intuition. His and his assistants systems, let's see, two time Adams award, the second in the next team he coaches, his assistant, two cups, yeah really bad coaches those guys. Maybe, just maybe, it was the team. Gillis was making moves for replacing the core players in trading for Horvat and who knows who he may have drafted, could have been anybody at the #6 spot. Yes a lot of fans got really upset when he went to the dressing room but I looked at in a different light, Alberts had his career ended by a cheap shot from McGratton and the Calgary coach lauded him for the hit and the Calgary coach knew that the Nucks were still light weights but started his knuckle draggers. No one else was standing up for Alberts or could. Benning did draft the BPA when he got Boeser.
  2. That is why I put the "economist's" comment, it was about money. In the states .500 is the difference between a winning team and a losing team in most major sports, which makes selling a "winning" team much easier to market and get bums in the seats. Last year only 4 teams were under .500, 27 were "winners", over .500. This year the Nucks could finish over .500, have the fans told/sold they are much improved and still finish in the bottom 5 of the league.
  3. Until they added the extra point, before 82 points in 82 game schedule equaled .500 or half way, 16th out of 32 teams. Now something around 92 to 95 points is needed to be half way between the top team and the bottom team depending upon the number of OT/SO games. Now .500 means a team is 4 to 6th worst in the league.
  4. Prior to overtime in the regular season ties were counted as one point and neither a win or a loss. The supposed intent, the Bettman stated, was to reduce the number of ties in the game, to encourage teams to play to win in regulation. The opposite happened, more teams now play for the sure point and then go for the extra point. Adjusted worst seasons by Canucks, win percentage without OT/SO wins 2013 - 2014 - 48 W, 12 in OT/SO. adj - .439 win percentage, .616 points percentage 2014 - 2015 - 31 W, 9 in OT/SO. adj - .268 win percentage, .457 points percentage 2015 - 2016 - 30 W, 11 in OT/SO adj - .232 win percentage, .451 points percentage 2014/2015 & 2015/2016 are the all time worst win percentage years in Canuck history. Three previous worst seasons. 1971 - 1972 - .308 1972 - 1973 - .340 1998 - 1999 - .354 This is WIN percentage, NOT POINTS percentage This year so far is looking better 15 W, one in OT/SO. adj - .424 win percentage. Just to put these stats in context, The Canucks have had 25 years UNDER .500
  5. Actually making the adjustment for team comparison stats is not difficult, just time consuming. Just look to all the OT/SO wins, if the result was a win then subtract the win and the point and count it as a tie. Essentially just subtract the win and point for those and then just do the win percentage, the ties don't count as wins or losses. ie; 2016/2017 Canucks - The Canucks were credited with 11 wins in OT/SO of their 30 wins. Subtract the additional 11 wins and points and then just divide the wins by 164 (2 points per win, 82 games). While the modern day stats show a wining percentage of .421, slightly worse than .500, the old method used for 80+ years would show a win percentage of .256, the worst in club history. This does not make for good marketing or inspire fan confidence. The opposite is also true, a good team looks even better and that is why just about ALL coaches now have a winning coaching record and goalies show so many more wins. Another way to see your algorithm may be to use the total number of points awarded to the teams, 3200 pts in 1300 games, then to multiply all the games played, let's say 1300, by 2 points = 2600 pts. It would/may give a starting point for further ratios of enhancement. ie; New system, Points awarded during the season in 1300 total games played = 3200 (just a number thrown out there). Traditional, used for 80+ years method, 1300 two point games = 2600 points. 3200 - 2600 = 600 and 3200/2600 = 1.231. 23.1% or a ratio of 1.231 per game. The NHL has then awarded 600 more points and 23.1% more wins in the new system. That could mean that the numbers used indicate 23.1% more teams will be .500 or roughly 76.9% of the 31 teams are over .500 = 24 of the 31 teams. You could take it a step further and calculate numbers of losses into the formula, which could likely make the difference even larger.
  6. Good work. Some records could be either adjusted or take into account the new point and win/loss system for win percentage, goalie stats. Maybe an asterisk. Prior to the new system league wide wins equaled losses with ties so .500 meant half way, now .500 means 4 or 5 from the bottom of the league. Since the new point system how many additional wins and points have come through winning an OT/SO game? An example, last year, 2016/2017 the Nucks had an additional 11 wins/points in OT/SO adding to the win percentage and point total, the year before 2015/2016, an additional 9 wins/points, take those away and comparing teams and records changes the landscape vastly.
  7. Who was the Canuck interpreter? Did they have one or did Tryamkin have to provide one? Until recently, Jake played looking at the bench more than at the puck. Short leash? It certainly has affected his earning power, next contract.
  8. Pretty sure they did, the decision to go back to Russia within 24 hours seems to be one made in anger or disgust or whatever, a negative emotion at any rate. He didn't even look like he was trying all that hard to hit people and they would fall down. He sure could handle McDavid, Mathews and Laine easily with that long reach though
  9. Positive direction? After three years of negative direction what other option is there? Speculation, many posters are over board with speculating how good some of the prospects may be, might be and tie that in to being going in the right direction. If the prospects are soo good where are they? Why isn't Utica a power house? Why are there so many FA's signed every year and only two drafted players on the team? Why is the team still near the bottom of the league? I have heard about how good or bad the prospect pool is and when it was at it's worst was when this team was winning the presidents trophy, their prospect pool was right there with Detroit's. I was able to see how good TO's prospect pool was all those years the Marlies were winning everything and the team was languishing for a playoff spot, TO had a fantastic prospect pool. Columbus also had a great prospect pool and Nashville, for 12+ years or so.
  10. It is not uncommon for those contracts to have a buyout clause going both ways.
  11. Believe me I would be on any Canuck management group that did something akin to the Neely trade but this could be worse. They had him here, in the show, with the team. How could they screw it up to the point he leaves within 24 hours of an offer? They already knew his stance on playing via the contract he signed and the talk about going back to Russia, also in the contract, in December. He was a rookie dman. Aren't the Nucks looking for good dmen? Are they keeping a "presence" over there? Just letting him know they are still very interested? I'd have a scout there with the other NHL scouts to watch every now and then and let him know the team still really wants him. I am sure at some point this management team will sink while walking across the swimming pool. Maybe another 29th place finish or even more empty seats or having to give away even more tickets or lower the prices more.
  12. The naïve part, where did he come from? A little town where the owners have the control of teams, a place where playing time is rewarded by how good you are, a place where hockey is a game not a business or for him it was. When the "leak" about him not going to Utica came out he didn't get any support from management and if anything they urged him to go, what does that seem like to him? Not very trust worthy. The very people that signed that clause urge him to ignore it and then don't support him in the media, he was getting crucified for not going. Yes he was naïve, he believed that people told the truth. Mystified with the coaching, yes he said he was having no fun. To him it was still a game. Was he good enough to play more minutes? Well he wasn't used on the PP so maybe they could have tried him there to see if he was good enough. He was essentially a rookie and already close, if not a top 4 dman, just what the Canucks were looking for. With the coach gone what difference was it to him? Management runs the teams where he is from, could he trust management to have his back? They already allowed him to be thrown under the bus not once but twice. And then the contract offer? Who knows how much it was or what clauses were in it but it surely must not have given him any reason to stay, most likely they thought they were dealing with a NA kid that would do anything to stay in the NHL and tried to take advantage of that. Within 24 hours he was gone. You just watch this management group is going to do something stupid with him that will end up being talked about, like the Neely trade, for a very long time. If he does come back, 2020 there may not be any hockey here, CBA expires, I am sure there will be different management. New management - offers Hutton money with bonuses - modified clause contract - big signing bonus BOOM, he is here. And if he ends up being Krutov instead of Larinov, well it won't be worse than the Eriksson contract. He is the stud the team needs. Can you see how good he could be at 24 yeas old?
  13. It sure would be good to get this guy back into the fold. I sure hope they don't trade away his rights and/or can convince him to come back early. I would definitely offer up Gudbranson type money, maybe even a little more. Blake Price Retweeted In November @tryamkin94 led the KHL defensemen's list with 42 shots, 28 hits, 15 blocked shots, and for 2nd straight time was named the D-man of the month!pic.twitter.com/eJ8Lpp7VCc
  14. Why has he only played 13 games? The team has played over 23.
  15. Certainly is looking extremely promising for the Canucks. Petersson is destroying that league and should be a top player in the NHL's regular season. Hopefully Virtanen or one of the other big boys can play with him for playoff runs. He should be able to make/play on the team next year, but do the Nucks want to burn a year of his contract and have him showcase his talent near the end of this year if he is available? Or even next year with the CBA expiring and the possible hockey stoppage? Gradin certainly earned his promotion finding this kid and Tryamkin.
  16. Generational, Elite or just above average, all are good things for the Nucks. He could be a 25 minute player and if they give him a shot on the PP, a PP specialist. He was already pretty damn good on the PK. If the Nucks can take a chance on a 30+ guy and pay him 8 million this year with a clause contract they should take a chance and offer this young up and coming high level prospect/player a significant contract AND include the same clause about the AHL if it keeps him satisfied. They should also see about getting a couple of Russian speaking guys on the team that are around his age. That shouldn't be hard as there will be roster spots up for grabs.
  17. No he didn't, he stated he had no idea of what was happening on the team with regards to playing time, in simple English he wasn't having fun, of course the translation doesn't convey the message very well.
  18. Tied for 2nd in points and third in +/-'s on his team. Team in currently 3rd in standings. Tied for 7th in points for defencemen in league standings and youngest player in that category, averaging 20:43 minutes per game, 5th in the league for hits, ....yep, he is the stud this team needed and this management group managed to alienate him, leave him hanging out to dry, insult him and not bother to explain to him....anything. Then they blamed his wife, the city, him being homesick anything but admit they were wrong. Good draft pick though, very good European scouts. I guess the neg votes are because I gave credit to the European scouts instead of Benning. The rest is just what the club stated and his actual stats.
  19. They will be signed here next year if they want and retire here. Linden has stated that many many times, "they are here as long as they want to play" and besides the team still doesn't have anyone better than them or at lest not enough players better than them.
  20. Burrows made a comment about allowing the trade to help the team in the future because he had so much respect for the fans and city. I wonder if the Sedins will now consider the same, not that the return will be as good unless they start controlling the play more and I know they have said they will not sanction any trade or move but.....
  21. Just wait at sometime one of those goofs will say "win now" like he really believed it.
  22. "Have them play in a winning environment", "to be competitive", "play meaningful games" Who knew that being competitive was intended for only two rookies to TRY to make the team not win games? Who knew that meaningful games meant mind games with the fans? Who knew that "winning environment" was to mean it was a win that they still had a job.
  23. The "stealth" tank WOULD have been while Gillis was here, no goaltending equals a huge drop in the standings without gutting the team of ALL the vets. This Mickey Mouse management group are just incompetent as demonstrated by trading for a player that was going to be placed on waivers just hours prior to them doing it. And a player that wasn't #11 on that teams depth chart for dmen. Linden still says it is a rebuild only because the fans want him to use that name, they are still doing the same thing they did before nothing has changed except they are satisfying the fans by using that word.
