  1. Canucks 5 predictions: 1. Elias wins the Calder 2. The team struggles mightly, but Horvat proves the glue that keeps the team together. He is given the C in February. 3. Edler is traded before the deadline. 4. OJ comes up due to injuries and plays steady hockey. He reminds us of Edler, but he shows the promise of being more gifted offensively. Makes us excited to see him and Hughes on the PP in the following year. Steady and reliable paired with a future star. 5. Virtanen nearly doubles his point production over last year, but proves even more valuable as the muscle in defense of his young team mates. He is awarded the A for a few games in recognition.
  2. I think the debate I've heard surrounding him is that he has put up more points than Johansen, but the league is weaker than when Johansen was there. I can see both sides, and I would still be a fan of taking Glass. Really there isn't too much you could be disappointed with many of these picks. We'd really have to reach to have any reason to be concerned.
  3. I will say Juovelli wasn't especially noticable during the Youngstars, but Stetcher loomed large in the spotlight. That doesn't mean I think Juovelli was bad, I think we noticed other players on his shifts, such as Stetcher, and not Juovelli because that's what good young defensemen do. He complemented the team and didn't play out of position.
  4. I think anti-socialness on the PC is a strange issue. There are so many communities and games that are actually much better socially on the PC because it's not 10 5 year olds yelling expletives at each other over a microphone. However, sometimes "ease of access" has really hurt PC gaming on a social level. World of Warcraft for instance use to be a much more social game. People where way more open to talking to each other, and you basically had to communicate to get things done. Now it's almost a wasteland of social interaction by comparison because you just click a button to get a group to do anything, no communication necessary. I think it's part of the reason the game has started to lose subscribers because the it's ruined the immersion and togetherness of being in that community. You might as well be running around with a bunch of NPCs.
  5. The only time I get all "PC MASTER RACE" is when Console gamers talk smack about FPSs. I mean, anyone whose played hours of both will basically never deny that the mouse is far superior, and the only saving grace of the console FPSs is aim-assist. RTSs, and MMOs will also always be king on computer. Consoles just don't have the longevity, let alone the storage space to be worth running a block buster MMO on, and RTSs are impossible without a mouse and keyboard. The only console RTS that actually felt really solid was Halo Wars, which was surprisingly good. Console owns all the sports games. Madden, NHL, FIFA, NBA 2K, etc. The sports market on the PC has largely died off, because companies just don't want to deal with programming sports controls for a mouse and keyboard, or figuring out ways to map all the necessary keys to every control pad made in the last decade. Racing games are very similar. RPGs have their places on both, with games like Dragon Age, and the Elder Scrolls are better on PC, and stuff like The Last of Us and Final Fantasy generally play better on consoles.
  6. I always get excited when I see something red in the upper right corner: "Someone likes me!" Then I realize that it's just the Rogers logo playing tricks on me again.

  7. IMO there are people who are great speakers, and those who aren't. Doesn't generally have much to do with ability. Charlie Strong wasn't the greatest with the media when he was the head Football coach here at the University of Louisville, but the guy could flat out coach. He basically slept in his office. This group we have right now all strike me like that, from Linden, to Benning, and now Coach Desjardins. I'm excited.
  8. Neither could Peyton Manning or Tony Dungy They COULDN'T do it. Why is that some people think that it's better to start over with a guy with no experience than it is to get a guy who consistently gets you to the Conference Finals or fails playing for The Cup? Odds are the guy whose always there is going to win it before the guy you're about to gamble everything on.
  9. I would resign him and see what happens. I want to see how he plays outside of Torts system going forward. We have nothing to lose by doing so.
  10. He said we need to play bigger, and no one played bigger than Santo until he got injured.
  11. I don't get the deal with coaches "shelf lifes" in the NFL. I get the need to mix things up, but if you have a good coach that can get you to the finals then why should you change him if he's still keeping you in the playoffs with a depleted roster? I've never understood the point of going: "Hey, we've made some poor roster moves and drafted poorly, and we're still reaching the playoffs. The coach is clearly at fault!" This is why I was so vocal over on reddit about getting rid of Gillis over AV. This year was a microcosm of Gillis' entire tenure with the Canucks. He goes out and grabs a guy like Santo, and convinces me he might know what he's doing, but he brings in Torts to coach with a style that doesn't fit our team, and makes all the bone headed trades we saw this year.
  12. The same as the odds that a any combination of 3 people we brought in for each position would work out given that they're a candidate for the job. Their are plenty of experienced people that failed out there, and generally one of the reasons people with experience are looking for jobs is because their last boss didn't think they were good enough for the organization he released him from. It's not like we're grabbing guys off the street and putting them in charge of this team. We're taking guys that have been in the system with successful teams and handing them the reins. These guys come from cultures of success, and we wanted to bring that here. You rarely get to snatch up anyone up from a successful organization that was the head hancho, but you can get some pretty stellar talent by picking up the guys that are helping them out.
  13. I'm a fan of teams all across North America, and I can tell you the fan base not being one big happy family isn't some problem regulated to the Canucks. Every fan base is divided about something or the other. This is the social media age, everyone has a theory, and an answer as to how "x" team could be managed better, drafting better, and just playing better. Doesn't matter what sport it is. Like it or not the people you disagree with are part of this fan base and they help make it great, just like you. If you can't handle someone elses opinion you might want to recheck your baggage at the door.
  14. I live a state away from Nashville, Tennessee and every time I do work down there it's nothing but Predators hats. Everyone I talked to seemed to love Trotz, and my cousin, who lives down there, was sad to see him go.
