He is coach’s dream. Works on deficits hard, growing quickly.
Progressing very well in Abby. Kills penalties and for a bottom six forward that is a key.
Sort of guy you can see earning a spot next couple years. A lot of wingers and winger prospects.
    Too bad he isn’t a #4C candidate.

I can see Bains getting the call up as a fourth liner and after a some time in that role, work his way up the line up. Quickly.

  2. Bieksa and Botteril will have no trouble finding a seat with another network...good riddance and good luck to Amber, McLean and Hrudey.  Wonder how long Friedman will put up with the new panel?  In this day and age, there are so many other relevant medium for talented people to ply their trade that the good ones will always find a way to be part of our daily lives.

Bieksa's future in hockey will probably be something more than broadcasting.

I have absolutely zero respect for Rutherford.  Given his obvious character issues, I see no reason to give that worthless sack of **** the benefit of the doubt.  The sooner this dirtbag is driven out of town, the better.  It is the duty of the fans to make it clear that he isn't welcome.

Sounds like the same rhetoric that been spewed about Gillis, Benning and whoever else.

Is it really that bad that he wears number 28? I mean Bourdon also wore number 4 when he first started and his first number was 40 when he joined the organization for his first camp. Why aren't those numbers semi retired then?

I get we remember Luc as he passed away tragically but wearing that number does not disrespect the legacy he had here in Vancouver.

Legit, we will all pass away at some point, including the players. Is this organization really going to semi retire every single number then? At that point its going to be hard to have numbers on jerseys moving forward. Remember the player and their legacy and move on. There are far more important and greater issues to be concerned about in this world than a player wearing someone else's number. Some people need to get a grip.

Probably a better safe than sorry move from him. The potential fallout wouldn't be worth a jersey number. Kinda starting to agree tbh though. The Canucks have done an amazing job of preserving Luc's legacy--the number thing, which isn't even official, seems unncessary.

    ^^^^^These^^^^^.

Canucks as an organization has done well to honour its past players, almost to a fault.  For a team that is lacking historical star power (i.e., Hall of Famers, Cup winners - which is hard to have when the team's only been the finals 3 times in 50+ seasons, perennial all-stars, etc.), it's done well with its jersey retirements, ring of honour, etc.

Just an opinion, but the notion of holding #11, #28, #37 and #38 out of circulation is unnecessary (though I have a big soft spot in my heart for Rick Rypien).

Notwithstanding the tragedy that is loss of human life, what is Maki's legacy?  He played 2 1/2 seasons with the Canucks and was deemed a "star" of the team of nothings (110 points in 154 games while healthy during an era Esposito was scoring nearly a goal a game, Orr was revolutionizing what an offensive dman can do is hardly "star" material or what legends are made of).  It's time to let that one go.

I say this - and without exaggeration - Benning is the worst GM in Canucks history.

If you thought we’d be seeing Vancouver win the Stanley Cup in this decade, you can forget about it. But maybe in 2030, once this core gets old and we have to start rebuilding again (assuming we don’t have to worry about dead cap and anchor contracts), maybe (just maybe) we’ll have a GM that’s worth his salary who’ll rebuild the right way.

I just hope that new core wins the cup because if not, I’ll start having doubts about seeing this franchise win the cup in my lifetime.

    Thank you, GMJB.

Would have to agree with you @guntrix.  Revisionist history being what it is, I can't believe I thought Benning was going to do something worthwhile when he was hired.  His stupidity was on full display anytime he spoke in public.  I can't believe I drank the Benning kool-aid for the first few years he was here.  Drafting Fat Jake and Ollie Juolevi ahead of you-know-who should have tipped me off.  Drafting genius...my ass.  Funny how he hasn't found a meaningful gig since his firing from the Canucks.

Only because LE wasn't a trade but a free agent signing.

Benning gaffed with the LE signing and further exacerbated the matter by trading a package that included one deadbeat Swede for a package that included another deadbeat Swede.  Leave it to Benning to throw someone else's money at Swedes whose best before date is long passed. At the very least, Allvin has shown the ability to keep his money clip in his suit jacket when it comes to chasing useless/washed up Swedes, and is only doling out ELCs and modest ELC+1 contracts at young prospects from his homeland.

I’d make the exception for Bertuzzi or Orlov though 100%. Clifton’s interesting but would he really be that much better than Bear?

At a similar cap hit, I would take Clifton over Bear. My only cause of concern about Clifton is adding another sub-6' dman to an undersized back end.

Though Bear was an upgrade on the right side, he's a Carolina retread who lost his job to Jalen Chatfield.

Looks like JL has filled out a little from last summer. From photo, looks like he's got shooters forearms.  Maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see? Southpaw...right side brain thinker.  Explains his creativity on the ice.

Is it just me, or do you guys see some Patrick Kane in Lekkerimaki's skill set?  A little bit of Mitch Marner as well.  Will be a home run if Allvin's first pick as Canucks' GM turns into 75%-80% of Kane/Marner.  No pressure.

We still gave it away plenty. Who cares when you win.

That's because we have guys named JT, Oliver, and Tyler on this club.

    Kraken 5 Pettersson 6

Wasn't a team win tonight. Pettersson should be awarded 5 points plus 2 for the win.  7 point night for Pettersson.

    Good call Boudreau!

Clearly he’s getting fed up with Miller’s lazy bullsh$&. The guys making 8 mil next season and completely mailing it in.

This is why New York and Tampa gave up on him. It’s not a skill thing, it’s 100% an attitude thing, AV knew it. He hasn’t changed that. He plays hard when he wants to and then floats and mopes around the rest of the time.

Thjs management group really screwed us with that contract. If they’re lucky they can still unload it to a desperate team.

I'm all for a Miller buy out.  Could care less about thie optics.

Time to start benching core guys for a game to send a message that no one is untouchable for lackluster play.

    Start with #9.

Nice pass on the PP that ended up in the Canucks net, hey?  How many more of these Sh!t the bed moments do we need to watch from this guy?  I've gone from being a big fan/supporter of Miller to the guy that wants him out of here for a bag a pucks. Even that might be an overpayment for Miller.

  12. I feel the same way about these Canucks like I felt about my first wife...even after divorcing her, I felt compelled to check in on her and see how she was doing.  Sort of what I'm doing with this version of the Canucks.

    In the past 10+ years, there was only a smattering of players that I despised on the Canucks...Vrbata and E r i k s s o n were players I simply hated.

With this version of the Canucks, I've developed an unhealthy hate on for Miller, OEL, Garland, Myers and Stillman.  So much so that it's overriding my love for Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, and the rest of the team.  Someone help me, please.

Don’t look now, but OEL has got 6 points in his last 8 games and 13 points in 27 games this year. Now scoring at nearly a 40 point rate over a season. Haven’t had that since Edler and before that Garrison in 2013. He’s making big mistakes still, but quietly is revving up his offence ability with the stabilization of Bear as a partner.

OEL still sucks at hockey.  He's the defenceman version of Loui E r i k s s o n.  Stealing money from the franchise.

  14. The best thing that could happen to the Canucks is if OEL simply retired.  Failing that, a Marian Hossa rash so he can spend the rest of his career on LTIR.  Failing that, a buy-out.  The guy is brutal.

While the Canucks are at it, get rid of Myers.  Been a supporter of him, but have come to the conclusion that he's got to go as well.

Neither of these liabilities are aging well.  Bold move would be to simply eliminate these two from the Canucks roster.  For good.  Their cap space is worth more than they are.
