  1. Here’s hoping $15/hr for Ontario is a success - but a sharp raise in minimum wage is a dangerous game for any government to be playing.

      They did this in Seattle.  It's not at $15.00 yet, but it did go up, and now rent is ridiculously high.  $1500 is the norm, and most buildings do not include utilities.

      Well, in Vancouver and Victoria, the average rent is already well above $1500.

      Even with rent controls, I think this is not the right way to address income inequality. It puts undue strain on small businesses, and to keep their profit margins, companies will end up laying off workers, raising prices, buying/selling cheaper and lesser quality goods, or some combination of the three.

       

      Not to mention that people who have worked an minimum wage position for a long time will now be making the same as someone just starting, so you end up with either a bunch of disgruntled veteran workers or, if you raise their wages as well, a society on the fast track to hyperinflation.

       

      There has to be a better way to fix income inequality.
