Quite the list. I'd like the Canucks to target the following on min contracts: Morgan Geekie/Nathan Bastien as depth options. Both have size and have played centre before. May create competition for 3/4C with Aman and whoever else they target for centre, like Blueger or Rodrigues. Could shift to the wing and be a better depth option than Studnicka. Jonah Gadjovich because I'm still bitter about losing him on waivers. Will fill the big rugged winger desire Tocchet wants, provided his skating has improved. Parker Wotherspoon for Defensive depth. Showed ok in limited games and could be a decent 6 or 7 on the left side, especially since the odds of Rathbone sticking around is pretty grim.

Good signing for Toronto. Would've been a good fit as 3c in Vancouver, though probably at a number closer to 3M... Not many Centre options left now, not that there were many to begin with.

This. I would not be surprised if Myers' 10 team list included all the cap floor teams as they're all far from cup contention. If in the event there's a team who will take on Myers contract, I'm of the thinking that it will take a bigger pick to move him with no draft capital coming back. Sissons can be a good short term 3C option. I don't think Nashville bites until they sort out extensions for Foote and Glass. If Boeser continues his positive progression, I think the value is fair.

Livingstone is a no brainer. With Woo somewhat stagnated in his development, he would immediately become the Canucks best RHD prospect. McAllister and McKown are intriguing to say the least. With Horvat seemingly on his way out, combined with a lack of a centre depth in the system, these two would get plenty of opportunity. Not very sure about Furry, however with the recent Pearson development, it wouldn't hurt. Really depends on whether McDonough is signed following his NCAA season. In any event, scoring two of the four could be absolute wins for the organization, particularly in a year full of losses and negativity.

Garland is the most obvious Buyout candidate. $4M savings in 23-24 and 24-25, $3M in savings in 25-26, and $2M cap hit for three seasons after that. Not a sexy buyout, but functional. Myers is better off to get traded during Free Agency after his signing bonus. For how much and to where are the real questions. Maybe back to Buffalo at 50% retained for a low pick or C-level prospect? The need for RHD around the league should theoretically make it possible for him to be moved. I think they need to eat the duration of Pearson's contract. Buyout savings is minimal and not worth the extra hit in 24-25. He had good chemistry with Miller last year, so maybe it remains to be seen if he can return to 40 point form. Boeser is a tough one. He's got no value as it stands. If Montreal were willing to trade Monahan, then maybe... too many variables to comment further.

That was messy, but a win is a win! Kuzmenko and Horvat are making good cases for significant raises. How do you not keep them after their run of play?

I actually like the trade. Let me expand by analyzing the teams' respective depth charts (open to debate, obviously). VAN: RHD Myers Schenn Poolman Burroughs Juulsen Keeper Johanssen Woo Myrenberg Persson G Demko Martin Delia Silovs DiPietro Koskenvuo Young BOS C Bergeron Krecji Coyle Nosek Studnicka Etc. In Studnicka, you get a decent, right handed forward with middle 6 potential (he's still only 23-24) who's shown well in the AHL, and had a lack of opportunity with the big team. With Lazar out and Miller shifted to wing, Studnicka can shift in at 3C, pushing Äman (who is barely into his 20s) down to 4C where he continues to develop his game. I don't expect him to turn into a 1C, and he can absolutely still bust, but the outcome of him being an impact bottom 6 centre is still very much a possibility. DiPietro is (rightfully) disgruntled, and since management has no loyalty to draft picks they didn't make, they found him a new home. Myrenberg showed well at camp this past year, and has shown flashes of potential, but still projects as a long shot to make the NHL. I feel people are upset because it could be Forsling 2.0, though it may be more likely he ends up as Candella... only time will tell. Let's see what the future holds.

First period observations: - Bo Captain my Captain. Keep feeding him the puck boys! - Congrats to Äman for scoring his first NHL goal. Great assist by Joshua. Nice to see them of both on the stat sheet after a couple of unnoticeable games. - Stillman is having it rough tonight. He's finding himself out of position constantly and seems to really want to play the right side, even though Burroughs is already there... ready for him to sit a game or two in favour of Rathbone... can't be any worse! - Demko doesn't seem to be himself... hope the boys can dig him out! Late to the party! 2nd period observations: - I don't mind the look of Lazar next to Petey and Kuzmenko. Obviously a small sample size, but the extra grit seems to be helping Petey's game. Nice place holder until Mikheyev is back. - Burroughs is looking good. Hot take, but I think he may (eventually) be the answer to the Canucks Right side D woes. - Nice for Bo Ho and Miller to get their goals in tonight. Both had a lot to prove since their unsatisfactory start to the season. - Didn't catch the first, but I'm wondering if Boeser's hand is still bothering him. In any event, Nice to see him on the game sheet collecting the odd apple. - Pearson and BoHo need to be glued at the hip. They boost each other's game. Let's win da turd! GCG!

2nd period observations: - The high Stick to Hughes should've killed the play, at the very least, if not a 4 minute high sticking call. That said, we've been relatively lucky with calls going our way, and not capitalizing on the Power play is just as big of a sin. - Speaking of Power plays, the Oilers have a very lethal Power Play. Holy cow. - I don't blame Stillman for getting danced by McDavid. Just glad it didn't go in. - Canucks are shaken. Plenty of golden chances were fanned, and the Oil are clawing for a win. They need an energy boost. One goal. Perhaps a fight, even. Joshua, meet Nurse? I predict a tight checking 3rd, going scoreless into overtime. GCG!

I agree on both points. Kuz had a nice play when he was going one on one earlier. Also, Hogs had a couple of great opportunities, but holding the stick a little too tight. The goals will come in time.

1st period observations: - Our forwards are tenacious tonight! Hungry, even. - Petey and Miller are beautiful. Picking up where they left off last season. - I very much like our 4th line. Very, very much. - Poolman still gives me nightmares but he's managing tonight. - Stillman and Burroughs are quiet and low event. Best you can ask for against the offensive dynamo of McDraisatil. - Oilers are checking tightly, but the Canucks are getting under their skin. I'm predicting a very chippy 2nd period after a PPG by Horvat off the nurse penalty. Expecting our PK to get tested hard once the penalties start getting evened up. GCG!

Unpopular opinion: Rathbone should be packaged in a trade with one of the top 6 wingers (Boeser, Höglander, or Garland) in a trade for RHD help.

I am cautiously optimistic. I was pretty hyped about our forward core last season, but this year is a definite improvement. Kuzmenko and Mikheyev are the wild cards for me, but if Boeser can have a bounceback season, Petey can show more than just a glimpse of his ceiling, and Miller can maintain a point per game season, the Canucks will be well on their way to being a top 10 scoring team. I'm also pretty jacked about the 4th line. Joshua-Aman-Lazar is everything I wished Highmore-Lamikko-Motte would be, but with snarl. Should cause some headaches for opponents. Still iffy about the D-core, but I think they're better than the analysts give them credit for. Myers is a solid top 4 who's only real fault is his contract (which ironically not any actual fault of his). He'd get alot more praise at $4-4.5 Million. We're going to miss him for the next couple few weeks. Poolman is solid on the backend, though I cringe anytime he pinches or handles the puck in the o-zone. Hopefully his pairing with OEL brings the best out of both of them. Schenn is stabilizing, though ideally his 20 minute nights are minimal. Burroughs is an underatted 5-6 d-man who I hope continues to get more opportunity to shine. Wildcards for me are Rathbone, Dermott, and Stillman. Can any of those 3 provide stability on the bottom pair? Which of them will provide more consistent benefit to the D-core as a whole? Can Rathbone shine with sheltered minutes in a more offensive-minded role, or develop his defensive game at the NHL level? Can Dermott realize his potential as a fringe top 4 Defenseman and provide balance on either the left or right side? Can Stillman be a solid fixture on the bottom pair and realize PA's vision of a prototypical hard hitting top 6 D? Which of them ends up on the block? Looking forward to the season! GCG!

This. Exactly why I argued against claiming someone from waivers. Can't imagine the headache of trying to squeeze another $2.55M of cap and stay compliant. I have alot more faith in this management group today. GCG!

And once Ferland goes on LTIR, Aman/Karlsson would inevitibly get recalled with added cap. With the uncertainty around injuries, it makes for a lot of headache when papering contracts. Only waiver exempt player unaffected by this would be Rathbone, but that may not have been enough. Nevertheless, what's done is done. There will be other opportunities to adjust.

Not surprised. With the Canucks needing to get cap compliant, it's difficult to imagine a scenario where the Canucks could claim someone with even a minimum deal.

Didn't consider his extension AAV. In that case, it could be worth taking the gamble. Id like to clarify that if the Dickinson trade was PA's attempt at freeing up additional cap space to be compliant this year (without resorting to LTIR) as well as freeing space for next year to allow for resigning Kuzmenko/Horvat, then claiming P. Myers nullifies that. Canucks come out a million and change higher this year, and a couple hundred thousand the following. Based solely on the math I have a hard time making sense of it without dumping T Myers, Garland, Boeser, or Pearson. I'd extend a debate on whether having P. Myers over Schenn or Burroughs would make the team better, especially considering the cap hit difference between those players. I would concede that Swapping Myers for Poolman couldn't be any worse though. Happy to be wrong in any event as the right side needs help!
