  1. Whats worse, losing picks or having to carry dead cap?

Also, depending on the year, nothing is stopping a GM from recouping or adding more picks down the line. Difficult, if not impossible, to remove dead cap.

  2. If Motte gets moved due to contract issues, do we have anyone that can take over for him? I'm concerned about our PK if he's traded.

I didn't mind Rempal's play when he suited up against Tampa. He looked like a decent fit with Lammer and Highmore. Not sure he is a proficient PKer though. Pearson looked decent with Miller on the PK last night, but you're correct in that moving Motte creates a void in the short term.

I feel as if Lockwood is being prepared to take on that role next season. He's been marinating in Abbotsford, though he's a relative unknown at the NHL level. Fast and fearless though!

  3. If you were a GM of another NHL team. Would you really offer the moon for any Canucks players right now? Everyone except Hughes/Demko/Miller are underperforming. I think CDC would be horrified the actual deals other GM's would offer now.

That's totally fair. If Miller can snag Schneider/Dobson plus out of Rangers/Isles system, and suppose Garland fetches Lysell out of Boston, I would be ecstatic, though those trades only happen at the deadline is their value is much higher at that point. God forbid we have a replay of the 2020 offseason and lose valuable assets to free agency as well. At the same time, I don't want Players traded for whatever they can get either. I wouldn't be too keen on Miller to Minnesota for Greenway and Addison.

CDC tends to overvalue Canucks players' trade worth constantly. Halak is not worth a late 2nd or 3rd, Garland won't garner three pieces, and Pearson isn't worth more than a mid-round pick or B prospect at best. I'm also hard-pressed to The only player with any tremendous value would be Miller, and even then the Canucks would be lucky to get anything comparable to what Buffalo received for Eichel. That said, the majority of players the Canucks have to offer still have at least one year remaining on their deals, so there's a little bit of time to make moves and maximize any return. No rush to move pieces out at this year's TDL.

  5. Hypothetical question:

Josh Leivo is in his contract year pacing 43 points. Do you give him $3M or let him walk?

I can see Leivo getting extended, provided he reaches 20 G/40P: 4x $2.5M- $3M. I hate to pencil Lind into next season's 3rd line without knowing he can out perform other options.

  6. I don't get people.

You want to hunt or fish for food. No problem.

You want to go to a gun range. Also no problem.

Want to shoot live targets, play paintball. Again no problem.

This. I have a problem with.

    Hope they rot in hell.

I'd really like to know what people get out of sport hunting. Is it the adrenaline rush of stalking and killing prey? Tension/aggression release? To a certain extent, I can understand population control for certain predators, but it seems a bit absurd to think Doctor So-and-so is consciously providing a community service by hunting a lion or two for the benefit of tribal villages in Zambia, especially when they post their accomplishments on Instagram.

  7. can anyone explain the strategy behind large signing bonuses and small base salaries; and the contracts that pay higher amounts one year, smaller the second year than back up the third year and so on? they must be structured that way for a reason.

    1. therodigy

      therodigy

The strategy is to entice players to come play. Would you rather make $13 Million over the course of a year, or $10 Million as soon as you sign a dotted line, plus $700k over the course of a year? It was rumoured Sharks were willing to go $1 Million higher in AAV, but Toronto pretty much gave him $30 Million between July 1, 2018, and July 1, 2019.

  8. I still can't make any sense of why the Canucks would want Lucic. ANY. When every other team in the league is trying to add speed and grit. Does JB think that THIS is the move that will save his job?

    1. therodigy

      therodigy

My take is that if there's ANY weight on this rumour, does a one for one trade involving Eriksson & Lucic even make sense for either team?

  9. has the league made a statement on last night stick throwing, not being called?

Here's my thought process: If a player doesn't intend to high stick or trip a player, can it go unpenalized, based on this explanation?
