  1. Steamer made club history in his own right. Didn't win any trophies(wrongfully robbed of the Bill Masterton Trophy in '88-'89) but he was the first career Canuck with 13 seasons. Last NHLer to lead his team in goals, assists, points AND penalty minutes in one season. Did more with less. Very impactful during the '82 Cup run. Arguably the best captain in Canucks history. Linden's Canucks career was similar to Smyl's except for his 3+ years away in between his Canucks stints, was longer and he got to play on winning Canucks teams. Was winner of the King Clancy Trophy. Was dominant in the '94 Cup run and final. Scored both goals in the 3-2 Game 7 loss at MSG. Nazzy was the league's best left winger during his 40+ goal run in the early 2000's. Won the Ted Lindsey Award in 2003(same award won by Danny Sedin in 2011). Spent 11+ seasons with the Canucks.
  2. Luongo carried the team in his first season, '06-'07, that's it. He was also here for 7 ¾ seasons. The Canucks' late 2000's and early 2010's success was carried by the Sedins. Luongo was excellent but he wasn't great. Closest to the Cup in franchise history. Lost 4-0 in Game 7. Got shelled in all 3 games in Boston. The '94 Canucks were a Nathan Lafayette goalpost from tying Game 7 at 3-3. Kirk McLean who was wrongfully robbed of the Vezina in '91-'92 stole Game 1 at Madison Square Garden, stopping 52 shots.
  3. Absolutely NO jersey retirement. The Ring Of Honour is the right spot Luongo. Lou never won a Vezina nor a Conn Smythe & he also only played in Vancouver for 7 ¾ seasons. Much unlike the Sedins who had won major postseason awards and spent their entire lengthy careers in Vancouver. The first Canucks goalie to have his jersey number retired needs to meet certain criteria: Win at least one Vezina Trophy and/or at least one Conn Smythe Trophy.
  4. The digital boards advertising absolutely sucks. Don't know if this was mentioned already but apart from the distracting changes, whenever one watches the games on TV, we don't see the local advertising from each respective arena. The other thing I hate is that the game markings along the boards disappear except the blue line markings. Ads on the helmets at the expense of team logo decals and now an ads on the sweaters. I understand COVID hurt the NHL and other sports leagues but these ads are spreading like a terminal disease. Talk about corporate greed.
  5. It feels like Brock's rookie season was nothing more but a big bold-faced lie. His Mike Bossy-like shot is long-gone and it looks like it will never ever return.
  6. Keeping the blue, royal or navy, and kelly green scheme is a definite must. Johnny Canuck is the obvious logo for the club that bears his name. However, I will be just as happy with the '70 Stick in Rink or a recoloured Skate with Johnny Canuck on the shoulders. The John McCaw-inspired Orca along with the bland Agency font both need to go. This Reverse Retro jersey, I firmly believe, is the path towards correcting the Canucks brand. If the Abbotsford Canucks can have a "Canuck", then why can't the NHL Vancouver Canucks have a "Canuck"??
  7. Neither does a constipated-looking Orca that's trying to do #2.
  8. And WHY is that "tragic" news?? https://fb.watch/gjU7-jMzUy/
  9. Yes there is. 1. The Canucks are back home tonight. 2. Johnny Canuck, at long last, will be back home on November 1.
  10. CBS Sports ranks it very high. https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/nhl-reverse-retro-jerseys-ranking-each-teams-newest-look-for-their-2022-23-season-alternate-sweaters/ TSN's YouTube page ranks it at #1. https://youtu.be/MGBl_Peq-60 Actually, our AHL affiliate is wearing a longtime Vancouver-based logo.
  11. Absolutely b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. This jersey is beyond long overdue. The navy blue and green look amazing together. It's one of the nicest Canucks jerseys ever and my wallet will be ready. Welcome to the NHL, Johnny Canuck!
  12. Parent to child: Honey, who would you like to invite to your birthday party? Child: The Canucks. Parent: The Canucks?! Why? Child: They can help me blow out the candles on my cake. They're great at blowing (leads).
  13. Actually, the Leafs brought back their single white pants striping.
  14. It's much better than the TD sponsor with the big green box. This will not look out of place if the Canucks wear the black Skate for this season's 3rd.
  15. Strongly disagree. Look at the pants of these classic uniforms:
  16. Where there's smoke, there's fire. Sheldon Kennedy spoke up as an adult against sexual predator and former junior hockey coach Graham James. Now, the grownup Aquilini siblings are speaking up. This isn't surprising. Francesco is a ruthless bully and a monster. Pure cowardice. Karma is a "you know what" and it's finally catching up to him.
  17. The current colours and the jersey and pants striping is what gives our uniforms credibility. Stripeless pants in hockey is just plain cheap and lazy. From having one of the worst fonts in the league(and w/o a green outline), the corporately-inspired Orca to now this. Unacceptable.
  18. This truly hurts. I never met her but Jennifer Smyl was my favourite hockey/sports wife...& not because she was married to my all-time favourite Canuck. She did so much for the Canucks' community activities. She was the Steamer's true love & rock. Heartfelt condolences, prayers and thoughts to Steamer, the Smyl family and their loved ones. RIP Jennifer.
  19. Not to worry. One can immitate but never duplicate.
  20. Here's the thing. I consider CDC a small fraction of the Canucks fan base. As a fan of 42 years who grew up with the V and the Skate, which I love to this very day, I started to connect with the history and legacy of Johnny Canuck just prior to the Orca's corporate cross-contamination of the Canucks' brand in '97. At first, I didn't want a human character as the primary on the Canucks' jerseys because I wanted continuity and I connected emotionally to the Skate. It was Don Taylor, when he wrote weekly columns in The Province, who convinced me otherwise. I love and appreciate our Canucks name and my love and enthusiasm for Johnny Canuck started from there. The Canucks did the right thing by choosing the original WHL Johnny Canuck jersey as the inspiration for this season's Reverse Retro. It's going to educate the younger generations of fans and the newcomers to our city. Many, many longtime fans want a Johnny Canuck jersey and it will be a red-hot seller. I'm already saving money for mine plus extra paraphernalia. I also plan on going to the first game the JC jerseys are worn. Like a kid who can't wait for Christmas or his birthday, I can't wait. The original Johnny Canuck is not goofy. It's old-school and was a product of its era. Love JC's old-style hockey skates. I wish JC was more vertically erect than slanted back a touch but that's how it was designed back then. Using the original in the green and blue as a Reverse Retro looks amazing. I felt the same way regarding Abbotsford using the modernized JC. However, there are teams that have and currently do share the same logo with their respective farm affiliates. I also feel that the Canucks are testing the waters now that CSE finally purchased the JC trademark outright. By sharing the same team name, "Canucks", with the AHL affiliate, it does makes sense to use Johnny Canuck. It also shows how ridiculous it is to use the Orca on the NHL Canucks brand. Remember too, Abbotsford fans wanted "Aviators" for their team name. Abbotsford is well-known for its aviation programs. Abby's JC could be changed to a pilot version as JC was also a pilot. This would cover all the bases for Abby - a logo representing their team name as well as their local identity. I love the creativity of the JC-V head and how it matched the previous updated Stick in Rink beautifully. My issue is that JC's head is tilted back. The skating Johnny Canuck's head is looking straight ahead unlike the V version. I also would have made JC's toque, beard and facial outline navy while limiting the royal blue to just the V. Most objections towards it would be because of its comparison to the recently-discontinued Vachon Cakes logo. For a full-time Johnny Canuck NHL logo, I love the idea of using a roundel.
  21. Johnny Canuck was a lumberjack as well as a pilot, farmer and soldier. The PCHL/WHL Canucks adapted the lumberjack version of JC in tribute to BC's longstanding lumber industry which, along with the fishing industry, helped build the city of Vancouver.
  22. Absolutely. Been a devoted Canucks fan for 42 seasons and I'm definitely devoted to the character who inspired our hockey namesake and whose lumberjack profession helped build our city.
  23. Already saving money to buy a jersey as well plus other Johnny Canuck Reverse Retro merchandise. It will be a red-hot seller. I also plan on going to the first game the jerseys are worn. Can't wait!
  24. I. LOVE. THIS. LOOK. * I would just make the navy a little lighter and bluey. The dark midnight navy is too close to the Kraken's shade and it looks more black than navy blue. Overall, GREAT work! *
