Yep. Just imagine where this team would be without the play of the Buffalo boys....

Here's a little something to put things in a bit of perspective though....

Although Vladdy's poor plate discipline is a big reason for his struggles this year, it's worth noting that he's actually younger than all of the Bisons call-ups. In fact, even though he's in his 5th pro season, he's still the youngest guy on the roster.....

Yeah, I saw that the other day and I was a little shocked. It’s definitely premature to say Vladdy will never be anything more than a slightly above average bat based on this season, but I do think it’s fair to question if he’s this generational bat to anchor the middle of the lineup that we thought he might be 2-3 years ago.

I cheer for the Bills, Canucks, Blue Jays and Whitecaps.........

.....I'm used to my team disappointing me....

The window is closing for Buffalo. (if it isn't closed already) They basically blew their chance when they decided to kick it deep in that playoff against the Chiefs....

Fair. At least you got the WS in 92 and 93, but that’s a tough group of teams to cheer for.

I don’t really have a favourite NFL team and I plan to keep it that way. Cheering for the Canucks and Jays is enough disappointment for me. I enjoy being able to flip around and watch whatever is the best game or two on at the time and never end up disappointed with the outcome.

Ben Wagner on the Blair & Barker show said Manoah and his camp were upset that he was demoted for performance reasons. I imagine the cut in pay for that time was/is a factor too?

Imagine having the audacity to complain about a performance-related demotion after spending nearly half a season as the worst starting pitcher in baseball and being clearly outplayed by the other starting pitchers on the roster. What a chump.

I saw that too....he also referred to it as some kind of accepted baseball strategy, but if so it runs counter to what I've been taught my whole life....

If you are in the late innings and need a run (or even 2) to tie, you do whatever you have to in order to make that happen. You worry about the 11th if and when that comes around.

With Kirk on 2nd, you want a guy who can score on a base hit. By leaving him out there, Schneider basically dictated that the Jays either had to hit for extra bases, or they needed two hits. It got even worse after Vladdy's ground out. At that point, you have to have a guy who can score on a medium fly ball....

Just brutal management and IMO, might have just sealed the Jays' fate.

It’s also contradicting what he did a few days ago when he pinch ran KK for Schneider (who isn’t a total plug on the bases) and Schneider’s spot in the order came up later in the game. He just throws out a weak excuse in the post game interview, at times putting the blame on his players, and then finds a new way to leave fans (and likely his own players too) befuddled a day or two later.

    This guy sucks.

they jays need to stop cheaping out on managers and hire one of the better ones.. they are literally wasting all their opportunity.. hell gibson is probably better than this crap with montoya and schneider.. i don't have issue with schneider as much but he's 100% a yes guy from upper management..

Schneider is a moron. Talking about how Kirk might’ve come up to hit in the 11th and the Jays being down by 2 as the reasons why he didn’t use a pinch runner in the 8th is just baffling. This roster isn’t perfect but good god Schneider sucks.

lol this team have been #1 in team pitching all season but they are god awful in hitting?? i thought their pitching was suppose to be awful and hitting is their strength?

That was the 2022 Blue Jays way of breaking our hearts. The new, improved Blue Jays generally pitch well and then crap their pants at the plate. I can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for us next year.

It doesn’t help that John Schneider is a moron.

It's just a terrible look for an organization to load up at the deadline then give up and send the players packing. Who'll want to play for baseball's Coyotes now?

To be fair, is it really that big of a step down? They’ve already proven to be completely inept while rostering the two best players this generation of MLB has seen. It was always going to be a long road back to credibility for them.

At least they tried to load up at the deadline and give Ohtani a chance. I imagine his most recent arm injury paired with these moves means the Angels have already made the decision that they’re not comfortable paying Ohtani the kind of money he’ll command as a two-way player who’s elite on both sides of the ball and have decided they’ll be losing him in the offseason anyway. If they’re successful in offloading these salaries via waivers they’ll improve the compensation pick they get for him.

I’m not saying it’s the sign of a well run organization by any means but it might be the best shit sandwich they can make for themselves.

Angels Got Absolutely Roasted for Waiving Five Players, Including Recent Acquisitions

The Angels made a series of roster moves on Tuesday, parting ways with multiple veteran players in a stunning salary dump.

Less than one month after being among MLB’s biggest buyers at the trade deadline, Anaheim is parting ways with three of its recent acquisitions, as well as two other veterans.

Lucas GiolitoReynaldo López, and Randal Grichuk, all of whom joined the Angels within the past month, were waived Tuesday. Additionally, Hunter Renfroe and Matt Moore were also placed on waivers by the team, in what was a significant salary shedding move from the organization.

Needless to say, the slew of former Angels players hitting the waiver wire left MLB fans stunned, and they pulled no punches when roasting the franchise for its failed gamble at the trade deadline.

 And here I thought the Jays were a dumpster fire.

Honestly I don’t think this is a terrible move. They might save a bit of money while doing the nice guy thing of giving those guys a shot at the postseason.

I’d take Grichuk back and be done with Espinal.

When they can’t even execute the simple plays what is a manager supposed to do?

Bunting towards first base when you’re trying to advance a runner to third? Like come on that’s a simple play that cost them.

Swinging on a 3-0 pitch? Like what?

Maybe the managers lost the room but I see this a team confidence/chemistry thing more than I see it as little individual decisions.

Talent only goes so far if you’re not playing smart and putting in the work.

I think the lineups we see over the next week will tell us a bit more about Espi’s 3-0 hack. If that was his own decision then he shouldn’t see the field for a while, maybe the rest of the season. But I have a hard time imagining that was Espinal acting on his own accord. I think Schneider may have outsmarted himself giving the green light there.

You can blame the bunt on Biggio, but why give that call to a guy who’s attempted like a handful of bunts in his career ? A manager’s job is to put their players in a position to be successful. Even without the benefit of hindsight I feel confident in saying that giving Biggio the bunt in a high-leverage situation was dumb. He’s a left handed hitter, all he’s really got to do is roll over and the job’s done.

What a frustrating team the Jays are. A rotation that has Gaussman, Berrios, Kikuchi, Bassett and Ryu. Who else has 5 starters like that? It's an embarrassment of riches. They were even able to swallow Manoah blowing up and not skip a beat.

The lineup has some great pieces as well. But the only guy who gets clutch hits is Danny Jansen. If that's the case you're in big trouble. Their numbers with runners in scoring position are terrible. They leave guys on base all over the place. So why do they just muddle along? Well if the bus is laying in the ditch I think you have to look at the driver don't you?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This guy sucks. He couldn't motivate a fat guy at a Dunkin' Donuts.

I'd fire him tonight. He's worse than Charlie Montoya. And as much as I hate to say this I'd can Donny Baseball too (that's Mattingly for you youngsters). No idea who I'd get to replace them but at this point you could dig up Sparky Anderson and he could do a better job.

Oh and before I forget. Fire the dumbass GM as well. Really good move trading Teoscar Hernandez. How does he keep his job?

Hitting strategist Dave Hudgens should get the boot. Not only for the teams evidently terrible hitting “strategy” but, on top of that, tweeting Q/Trump stuff from the dugout like thirty minutes before first pitch. If the team was tearing the cover off the ball it would be one thing, but him doing that while the team has the most flaccid offence we’ve seen since the Ricciardi days it’s almost like he’s asking to get canned.

The buzz around Mario was that he didn't want to practice and didn't practice very hard when he did.  I wasn't around personally but that was his reputation to some degree.  Might have changed into his career...maybe after 1987 with Gretzky on Team Canada and by 1991 and 1992 he was as Alain Vigneault would agree "a man possessed."

But word was that he relied on his physical gifts and talents quite a bit...at least until he became the legendary version of Mario.  Like Allen Iverson says...how is he going to make his teammates better by practicing?

Pavel Bure had a bit of that as well.  He obviously put the gym time in and kept in great shape but there was one Canucks practice anyway where Pavel was off looking at the daisies while every other Canuck was huddled up going over plans and techniques and Trevor had to yell over...you gonna join us Pavel?

There was a guest on Spittin' Chiclets a while back who talked about playing on the Pens with Mario at the end of his career (maybe the 03-04 season). At the end of practice they're huddled up around center ice and Olcyzk tells them they've going to have a bag skate. A couple guys start shuffling down to the corner when Mario pipes up, "Hey Eddie"

    Eddie: "Yeah?"

    Mario: "Nuh-uh"

Eddie: "Alright guys hit the showers".

Yeah, there certainly was no issue with the velocity....and being a bit wild isn't always a bad thing for a guy who throws in the high 90's...

Considering he just got back, I was actually pretty impressed with his control....especially on the slider....

Oh yeah, that slider to Harper after the fastballs at 98 and 99 was plain unfair. You could see it live but this video really illustrates it.

I don't know if this is true with Kikuchi, but a lot of teams have data on their pitchers that suggest a big drop off in effectiveness the third time through the order. As Bounce said, Schneider deserves some credit here. He pushed all the right buttons. I have to admit, I was second guessing the idea of giving Hicks the 8th and then turning it over to Romano for the Save, so soon after coming off the IL....

@Pears when you paste the link to a tweet, click on the "plain text" option at the bottom and it will embed as a tweet.

I liked how Sportsnet showed his full entrance from the bullpen out to the mound. As an Ontario kid who grew up a Jays fan, coming out for your first appearance in a couple weeks to save a one run game while your team's in a playoff race, the music going, lights down- man, Romano must've been some sort of jacked up. You could kinda see it when he let that first fastball go a little too up and in.
