  1. Yeah, at least online if you scroll through hfboards or Reddit you see that most Leaf fans are actually pretty self-aware. I think it's a bit of a newer development, say in the last 2-3 years, but it's nice. You're spot-on about Habs fans though. Somebody needs to let them know the 2021 Cup Final kinda didn't count and nobody outside of Habs fans thought they had even a snowball's chance in hell of winning that series (because they didn't).
  2. Yeah, I used to point out how the Leafs are actually on a longer cup drought than the Canucks but I'm pretty sure they're just trolling so I don't take the bait anymore. If I were a Leafs fan, I'd be a troll too
  3. Yep, a cousin and a buddy who are both Leafs fans love to drop that line on the Canucks fans around them.
  4. 2020 doesn't look good but Truscott might be something. I'm not sure what you mean about 2021 though- Klimovich, Forsell, and Myrenberg all look very promising for early returns on a non-first rounder.
  5. I don’t think that’s the issue because I think as long as Sid’s there you have to go for it every year, and Sid gets to decide when he leaves. They just did a terrible job of “going for it”. Picking up Granlund and Bonino while everyone else was picking up legitimately good pieces like Horvat, Kane, Meier, etc was mind boggling. I genuinely think Hextall is worse than Benning. edit: @Ghostsof1915 I meant to quote you
  6. I believe to be AHL playoff eligible a player has to have been on the AHL team's roster at the time of the trade deadline. IIRC, PDG and Aman were with the Canucks at that time but were "papered down" in order to be eligible for AHL playoffs. McDonough didn't sign until after the deadline.
  7. I believe PDG and Aman are eligible to play in Abby's playoffs but Kravtsov and Mcdonough aren't.
  8. It depends on how much the award is IIRC. There’s a threshold number where the team can walk away if it’s above that number, but if it’s below the threshold the team is forced to sign. That number changes each year but I think it’s around $3.5-4M?
  9. I think he’s better than Stecher. Maybe more like a Kulak? I’d probably take Kulak over Bear though, even without factoring in the contract situations for the two. I see Bear averages about a minute more in TOI but aside from that I think he’ll be hard pressed to ask for more than Kulak’s 4 x $2.75M
  10. There's a few, but the majority end up being depth players like you said. Torey Krug, Noel Acciari, Tyler Bozak, Alex Iafallo, Neal Pionk, Evan Rodriguez, Nate Schmidt, Conor Sheary, and the Tanev brothers come to mind as more stand-out undrafted college FA's. Some of the more depth-type players like Stecher or Zach Aston-Reese have had solid careers too..
  11. It's easy to assume this was a case of a Russian man being "disappeared" but that seems a little premature at this point in time. Has Matvei done or said anything to put his family in jeopardy?
  12. It's great when you're at the game but sucks for watching on TV.
  13. I should say I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m excited about the roster but being born in 93 I’ve only known the Jays as perennial disappointments. I’m not expecting a division pennant but I think it’s in the cards if everything goes well. I do expect them to make the playoffs though.
  14. Is this just a case of a bad apple then? I find this so baffling. I can't imagine taking a life (and ruining your own in the process) because somebody asked you not to vape near their child.
  15. I think you've misunderstood who Rupe was referring to as the asshole in this situation.
  16. You'd almost have to assume he is, no? From what I've read he's got no prior criminal record. How does a 32 year old with no prior history suddenly escalate to murder? Does he just lack the mental/emotional maturity to control himself? You'd think this would've surfaced at some point already. It's an odd one to me. I'm assuming there's going to be some sort of psychiatric evaluation and I hope we get to see the assessment. If he's given a clean bill of mental health I hope he spends the rest of his life behind bars.
  17. I think I read that only verified accounts will be able to participate in polls too. Elon's gonna run his polls inside his little echo chamber and claim he's perfected democracy.
  18. RP's can be a little hit-and-miss year to year but the bullpen at least looks much more promising than it did last year. Romano, Garcia, Swanson, Bass, Cimber, et al should be decent. I think Gausman's going to benefit from the new shift rules. With him and Manoah as a 1/2 punch, and the addition of Bassitt, if the Jays can get a bounceback year from Berrios or maybe Kikuchi I think the rotation is actually pretty decent. Most polls seem to have the Jays as a top 5 roster in baseball. Maybe they add a big arm mid-season. I have a feeling that between the rotation and bullpen, we're gonna be happy with one and disappointed with the other. Just remains which is which.
  19. We'll see how they actually perform through the season, but going into it this looks like the best roster (on paper at least) the Jays have had in some time. Better than post-deadline 2015. I'm really excited to see what they can do.
  20. Surely your ability to see the future could be better utilized in ways that aren’t complaining about made up scenarios on a hockey forum, right ?
  21. The Spartans had Thermopylae. For General Custer it was Little Bighorn. @sassbs has chosen this as his hill to die on.
