  1. Don't know man. Messier's time with the Canucks led a lot of fans (including myself) to check out on the team. Was it all Messier's fault, no. Is this teams poor play for the last 10 years Miller's fault, no. Both players had the chance to provide hope to a team by being the star players they are paid to be. Both players instead are terrible teammates who don't seem to care about the fan base.
  2. At this point I'd be happy with a bag of pucks for Miller. I don't care about losing an "asset" for nothing. I'd argue at this point that he is a negative asset to the team.
  3. It's the no emotion that kills me. It's been like this for years.
  4. Mine was when they resigned Pearson. That signalled that nothing was going to change. Bad contracts to aging players past their prime.
  5. I think the key to the FA signings is what tier of free agent you are chasing. In Tampa Bay's case they are not trying to find a top tier FA to plug a hole in their roster. A team like Edmonton and NY have both over paid free agents to get them to sign. In NY's case it is going to hurt them when their young forwards are out of their ELCs. I think the best recipe is to draft your top end talent and win a trade or two, then fill out the depth with FA signings. That will ensure you are never overpaying your free agents.
  6. Gudas is the type of player we have needed on our defence for years. Good bottom pair Dman, who is physically engaged every game and not afraid to stick up for his team.
  7. The Canucks were better off with 5 Defensemen when they dressed Guddy. We don't need a plug on Defense just to toughen up our lineup.
  8. I just think it comes down to them wanting to make as much money as possible and not being willing to endure a full rebuild, because it could hurt revenue. If there were fans in the building last year we probably would have seen change already. I'm sure next season we will have a new GM and coach. Hopefully the owner takes a step back and lets someone with experience run his hockey team.
  9. I'd take Kane 50% retained for Tyler Meyers. Then bury Kane in the ECHL if possible. Take Meyers salary off the books giving us a little more room to rebuild the D-core.
  10. I agree with you that Aqualini doesn't seem to care about what his fan base thinks. Regarding Benning and Green, sure fire them, but it's not going to make much of a difference. There is something rotten with this group of players. Whether you let JB sort that out or someone new, a big chunk of this team needs to be torn off and traded away. I have no idea who the cancer is in the room, but based on how they are playing and their percieved give-a-$&!# meter I want to see all of: Petey, Boeser and Miller gone. I want the C taken away from Horvat and given to OEL. This season is already wasted, so I don't care what the return is for those players. We are going to be bad regardless. I just want to see a team that plays for each other. A team I can get behind and love again.
  11. Why? How do you know they won't? Are you saying they couldn't use a player of Petterson's capability? And also, after his bridge deal Petterson will be making at least 9 million a season. Probably north of 11. He is one of the best centres in the league.
  12. Why don't you explain how he drafts well. Outside of Boeser and Petterson, give me a good NHL player he has drafted that wasn't the obvious pick? Hughes and Hoglander were obvious picks. Good luck with the rest of his genius drafting. He has not outdrafted the average NHL GM. Do a little research on the other GM's around the league and their drafting. Benning is dead average. Not great, not bad. Just in the middle of the pack. Unfortunately for Canucks fans he is bad at every other aspect of GMing.
  13. I think this is closer for Demko. I don't think he has the track record for anything higher at the moment. I also don't think Binnington did. St. Louis is going to regret the hell out of that contract. I hope that Petterson and Hughes sign for what you have listed, but I really think that Petterson will 8 x 3 and Hughes will be 7 x 3. I hope I am wrong because we have a large portion of our roster to fill out with almost nothing after those three sign.
  14. Very well said. completely agree with you. There is something terribly wrong with that team. I think they have more talent than us, but for some reason are stuck being horrible. I would hate to cheer for them right now. That trade proposal looks good. At this point I am really gun shy. I think its fair trade because it makes me want to cry at the thought of losing those guys.
  15. Offensive potential is not something you should trade actual offense for. Yes Hedman and Chara took a few years to figure it out, but there are hundreds of examples of players who never did figure it out. You have to look at it from both sides. I agree that Dahlin has a bigger upside, however since he has failed to show it yet, Hughes is currently the better player and Buffalo should add if we are making that trade. It's not like the players around Dahlin are terrible. He just isn't making them better. The Canucks are not a great team, yet Hughes manages (with the exception of the first 15 games this year) to have a positive impact on the Canucks. Hughes career Corsi, goals per 60, goals against per 60 are all better than Dahlin. Even if you take this year as an outlier because of competition, Hughes is still better.
  16. Hughes is also playing on one of the worst teams in the league yet he is out producing Dahlin by a country mile. I am not arguing that Hughes is a perfect defensemen. All I am saying is as it stands right now, Hughes is better than Dahlin. If we make the trade Buffalo adds, not us. Betting on potential could end up being a really bad decision for us.
  17. I'd vote for keeping Green. Totally agree regarding Benning. He is an average GM who is better than average drafting and below average at everything else. I like a fourth line of Motte, MacEwen and Hawryluk, I just don't know who plays center, but I want to see it happen. Gaudette should still be a third line player, perhaps as a winger. I am really hoping Cole Lind is able to make the jump next year, so ideally we just need a third line C. I would love for us to be able to take advantage of Tampa Bay's cap crunch and pry Cirelli off of them. He would be an amazing 3c. This might not be a bad year to send a lottery protected 1st to Tampa for him. Like you said, do anything we can to get rid of Roussel and Beagle. Our defense looks so bleak next year. I have no idea who to bring in. Doubt we could afford it, but Hamilton would be amazing and like you said maybe Larsson. Perhaps send Meyers packing and hope we can fill in our left side from within. Miller - Pettersson - Podkolzin Hoglander - Horvat - Boeser Lind - Cirelli - Gaudette Motte - Hawryluk - MecEwen Hughes - Schmidt ??? - Hamilton Juolevi - Larsson
  18. I appreciate the effort you put in. I wouldn't do the Hughes trade. Our defense looks a lot better with Hughes in it. That left side looks very thin. If Juelovi cannot get into the lineup this year, we don't want him as our second pair guy. I would try to move Meyers instead of Holtby. We can do one more season of Holtby. Make the trade with Seattle, but sub in Meyers instead of Holtby.
  19. I never said he was winning a Norris Trophy. I merely stated he would be higher in the voting than Dahlin. It would be not be great asset management to trade away the better player right now for potential that may never be realized.
  20. Fair enough. I just think that finding a top end point producing defenseman is tougher than finding a defensively responsible stay at home defenseman. If you have the chance to have a defenseman that has the ability to change the flow of a game on his own you keep him. In their prime, Karlsson, Doughty and Subban all had the ability to take over and control a game. We have that in Hughes. We would be dumb to trade that away when right now he is one of the top point producing defenseman in the league.
  21. I like it. I just wish our management could pull something like this off. In reality though, Jim wouldn't have enough time to pull all these trades off before the deadline
  22. Ehrhoff was great here, but was also on a much better team with a much better supporting cast and he still scored less points than Hughes had in his rookie season. Hughes is the better than Ehrhoff. Hughes will be the best Cancuks D man to ever play for us. Although the bar is not that high in Vancouver for defensemen.
  23. Perhaps I am reading too much into what you said, but are saying you would prefer to have Scott Stevens as your Number 1 D as opposed to Paul Coffey?
  24. Hughes is closer to winning a Norris trophy right now that Dahlin. If that trade happens this year Buffalo is throwing something in. Not us. Hughes is one of top point producing D men in the league. Why would you trade that away for someone that was supposed to be better. I am sure the Oilers could tell you that not all first overall picks are the best in that draft class.
