  1. Fantastic day for Benning and the Canucks. It’s really this simple. If you hate or dislike today’s moves, you’re a hater. Doesn’t matter if Benning does something good, you’ll still find a fault. It’s kind of like south of the border. Trump is kicking a$$ and turned the country around but he has haters too. Not comparing Benning with Trump (although they’re both rad) but my point is there’s haters out there. At least we all get a say, an opinion. As a die hard fan for many years, my opinion is Jimbo isn’t perfect. However he’s been very good overall and there’s no doubt he has turned the ship around. We’re on the upswing of the rebuild. The future is bright. Nobody can deny that. I’d encourage more people to quit hating. It’s gotta be a tiresome way to live. Enjoy your Canucks. Have a beer and dog at the game. Try not to fall out of your seat once Pettersson, Brock and Hughes jump the boards in 3 on 3 OT. Canucks, s’go! Benning is awesome!
  2. Benning wanted a top 6 F. Boom - JT Miller Benning wanted a top 4 Dman. Boom - Myers Benning wanted a new look to his D unit. Boom - In Myers, Benn, soon Juolevi (Xmas or sooner) Hughes Tanev Edler Myers Benn Stecher Looking good. Benning. Promises made, promise kept. Great job Jimbo!! Big fan of Jimbo’s over here.
  3. So true. I like Jimbo a lot. He’s actually my favourite Canuck GM going back to the BIG Irishman. Jimbo tries things. I think he’s won way more than he’s lost when it comes to Canuck trades. The clear losing one was the first Guddy trade but I admit that I was wrong also. I thought we were getting a big strapping mean Dman with edge, nastiness and leadership. Almost like a right shooting Pronger but without the offence. I was wrong. Not only do I like where this team is headed, I also like Jimbo the man. Honest, humble, knowledgeable, and if anyone in here has ever heard a better laugh than Jimbo’s, I need to hear it pronto. As a long living true Canuck fan, loyal always and never waver, personalities matter to me. Yes it’s a business and put your feelings to the side because winning is all that matters. I agree, unless our players and coaches/management are bad dudes. I can’t cheer for bad dudes. Just look who we have; Bo, Brock, Pettersson, Hughes. These are good kids and our future is bright. Not only do I like what Benning is doing direction wise for the team, but I also really like him, the person. PS - We won the JT Miller trade also. Miller IS (never mind was) a first round player. He’ll be north of 20+ goals per year, bang, create ice, improve line mates numbers, skate with speed, protect pucks and lead. Go back from 2012-2018 and look at the players drafted 16-24th overall. Yes you’ll find some nice players but you’ll also find a lot of misses. JT won’t be an All Star but he is a guarantee. We know what he is. He is production and results. He’s proven. AND we don’t have to wait on our asset. Even if we miss the playoffs next year, Bolts have to wait 2 years to draft a kid and then 2-3 more years (most likely) for the kid to crack the lineup and make a contribution. Our asset makes a contribution once camp opens in a few months. Also, we have time. We can recoup that pick within 2-4 years in my opinion. 26 years old, cost certainty, and our players like Bo and Petey are liking this addition a lot. Good pick up Jimbo. We won the trade. Go Canucks!
  4. Brock is as close to untouchable as they come. I don’t even consider this.
  5. Philly is dangling #11 overall. How do we get that? If we could secure #11 to pair with our own #10, perhaps a trade up? I think that would give our team plenty of options on Friday at the draft.
  6. There’s no question he needs to warm up in Utica again. However it’s my opinion that once he’s ready and comes up (Xmas time maybe) that he’ll stay up and be a fixture here. Signing or trading for a left shooting Dman will essentially put Juolevi into our 3rd pairing. That might not be the worst thing for a while but with his upside and style of play I don’t think we want to corner ourselves having blocked him from playing 2nd pairing minutes eventually.
  7. I like the well thought out scenario also. My take is that we’re keeping Jake. Jimbo has repeatedly said he wants us to get bigger/stronger/tougher. I don’t see it making sense subtracting Jake. Personally if we’re going to invest in a Dman via trade I think it should be for a Right shooting one. (please no Subban or Hamilton). I might be in the minority but I see Hughes and Juolevi securing the left side on the first two pairings. Finding a left side guy who plays less minutes is a relative easy find. If everything were to remain steady for now, only Stecher and hopefully Woo (in 1-2 years) will man the right side. Tanev is here for now and I think he should stay for a few years until Woo or someone else within the system grabs the job. With that being said I think there’s a big opening for someone to come and play heavy meaningful minutes on the right side. I wonder what the asking price for Letang would be? With Petey on the side wall and Brock with his stick loaded for a one timer, I think our PP would be dynamite. Personally I want a right shooting Dman.
  8. Admittedly I haven’t seen a ton of Gabriel BUT when the Devils swung out west for their road trip I couldn’t help but notice Gabriel. I believe he went toe to toe with Lucic in a marathon tilt during Hockey s Night in Canada. He’s not just a tough guy. He can do his job on the 4th line. Get pucks deep, where down their D, get in on forecheck. No he’s not gonna chip in with 12 goals but he can still contribute. I’m not convinced the game is void of an enforcer. Sure Gino days of losing his sweater and shoulder pads are gone but there’s still a spot for a tough guy, at least on my team. Tom Wilson is the #1 guy I’m talking about here. Wilson can do it all but he’s also making north of $5m per. Gabriel is by no means a Tom Wilson BUT outside of scoring he can do everything else Wilson can. I’ll pay up to 1/5 of Wilson’s contact to get a cheaper version. I guess the real question here is can MacEwen make the team and fill this void?
  9. It’s true he’s one dimensional but I’m okay with that. I like players that specialize in something. Give them a role and let them excel in it. For example, Markus Granlund. Granlund is a better hockey player than Gabriel but Granny doesn’t specialize or excel in any single facet of the game whereas Gabriel does. It’s my opinion that a tough guy does more than just fight. They also police. They open up ice. Smaller players sometimes tend to play bigger if they know they have reinforcement. Also a player like Gabriel fills an important and difficult role for relatively cheap $ and term. Anders Lee is a fine player but you’ll have to fork over $ and term to acquire and/or retain. I’d rather put that $ and term to a higher end player if one should become available.
  10. Brock is almost untouchable imo. Not only do I think he’ll be an annual 35+ goal guy per year, he’s a fan fav already and our team needs him for that. He’s a gooood dude also. If Gretzky can be traded anyone could but this team today, he, Petey and Hughes are staying here.
  11. I think Canucks would be overpaying. I think more teams would want Stecher over Miller straight up in today’s NHL, imo. That would leave Jake + 10 for Tuch and I couldn’t do that. Not a a bad idea but I think we’d be overpaying
  12. I’ve been hearing plenty that the Canucks want to get bigger and stronger and personally I’m happy to hear this. We’re all aware of the maybe Lucic for Loui offer but the player I want is Kurtis Gabriel. 6’4, 200+ RW. He’s a guy who’s engine runs hot. He’s often being told to ‘cool it’ instead of ‘get it going.’ He just turned 26. An Ontario kid tough as nails. He’s a UFA so won’t cost us an asset. At 26 years old, he can grow with our team and be a fan favourite. As much as I love speed and skill, I’m totally in favour of a tough guy (enforcer type) on my team. Kurtis Gabriel Sign 2 years AAV less than $1M per Lets go Jimbo. Let’s bring in Gabriel. If Jimbo wants to bring in size and toughness, who’d you want?
  13. Haha Canuck fans. Listen, these jersey’s are an improvement over last years without question. Losing Vancouver above the orca was a no brainer and happy it’s gone. The retro skate is SOLID and should always be around in my opinion. Finally, the jersey getting the most hate is the one I think I like the best. They didn’t overdue it with too much design or colours. I wish they wore green gloves with this one though. Jersey’s are important to me and I’m giving them a thumbs up.
  14. I’m wondering if we could snag him in the 13-20 area simply because of his injury and might slide? I’m hearing he won’t slide because he won’t be ready to play in the NHL for a few years anyway. I really like Zegras also. That kid has vision. Excited for the draft. Big Jimbo fan over here.
  15. Not sure about anyone else but personally speaking, if our team isn't a cup contender (which we currently aren't), a team of young skilled up-and-comers is exactly what I want to see, win or lose. Show me speed, skill and compete and I'll always buy in, guaranteed. Absolutely loved our draft. Benning has the right vision for this team. I'm excited and encouraged. Great job Trader Jim.
  16. I really miss hockey in the 90's. Goals, scraps, speed and more scraps. Not many teams outside of NJ trapped. Loves watching the old Jets vs Canucks game. Odjick Momeso Diduck Dirk Tim Nose, whoops, Tim Hunter Antoski King Manson Kyte Cronin Just awesome entertainment when you mix this with Bure, Ronning, Courts, Adams, Hawerchuk, Elynuk, Steen, Hously, Olczyk. I miss a big tough 4th line.
