  1. Voted for Hank. But really, I'm voting for both Sedins. They are the greatest Canucks ever.
  2. What a click bait article. That you can take anything negative from it is unbelievable.
  3. That's not what I took from the interview at all... That was he's "extremely hungry for revenge."
  4. Tony Esposito was one of my favourite old school players. I remember having a valuable card of his, and being so upset when it got stolen along with others in my binder.
  5. This is the definition of a show me contract. Love that he took less money to give himself more of a chance to make the roster. I thought he was looking really good before he got sick with COVID. I expect him to prove he belongs in the NHL after a healthy offseason.
  6. This is shocking. I was literally just thinking about looking at his stats. RIP...
  7. No. Hughes is the best player in that deal, and it would be stupid to trade a 1st round pick.
  8. The Richards. They won a Stanley Cup every year they played with each other--from 1955-1960--even though Henri was 15 years younger. Altogether, they have 18 cups between them, including 11 for Henri which is the most championships won by one player in any major league (tied with Bill Russel). Maurice Richard is my favourite player from the Original 6 Era. The first to score 50 goals in 50 games, and the first to score 500 career goals.
  9. Hughes has the potential to be one of the best offensive Dmen in the league. He got 41 points in 56 games, and it was an "off" season for him. Sophomore slump... A bridge deal is most realistic cause he has deficiencies on defense. But after that I don't think a contract in the ballpark of those being given around the league is ridiculous. People are acting like he has to become a top penalty killer to get that. And no, he doesn't. He just has to prove he can get a point per game, and be an elite puckmover, and I think he will. The best defense is a good offense, and guys like Karlsson have proven that. I remember a game against the Sharks where Karlsson barely had the puck, because Hughes always had it--he has that type of potential. But I think JP Barry is realistic in that he knows this is Hughes' second contract, and he is not eligible for an offer sheet. As long as we try to sign him in earnest, he will be signed.
  10. I think he's comparing apples to apples, but at different stages of ripeness. They are not meant to be exact comparisons--just roughly equivalent. Pettersson and Boeser are ahead of where the Sedins were at the same age. It's not ridiculous to say they could make a similar impact in their primes. I'm not really sure what you mean by "u can't just plug a career bottom 6 guy in there and turn him into a top line scoring winger," cause Pettersson and Boeser are both top line forwards, and basically have been since their rookie seasons. If you're talking about putting a bottom 6 player with them, and turning him into a top liner, they have already done that with Miller. While I would liken Pettersson to being more of a Datsyuk stylistically, I definitely see the Boeser to Daniel comparison. Obviously Boeser isn't as good at cycling--almost nobody is--but the shot, sniper mentality, but lack of selfishness are all very similar. Again, Hoglander is way ahead of Burrows was at the same stage of their careers. With Hoglander's rookie season, we can already see the potential. In Burrows' rookie season, he was a 4th liner who would get the occasional breakaway but not score--we had no idea how good he'd be. They are both good at getting pucks in the corner for their teammates. Burrows is obviously taller and chippier, but Hoglander's heart does remind me a bit of Burr. I agree with you that Horvat will probably never be a perennial Selke candidate like Kesler. Even though defense was considered his bread and butter when he got drafted. Still, I think we sometimes forget how young Horvat is, since he's already our captain. This season will really show his offensive potential, cause he'll have much better wingers. I wouldn't be surprised if he cracked 80 points at some point, which Kesler has never done. Podkolzin plays a lot like Hansen, but I have a feeling he won't have "No Hands" Podkolzin as a nickname. As much as I love Higgins, I would way rather have Miller. Raymond - Garland. Raymond is way faster, but Garland is more steady on his skates, and is a better playmaker. Torres - Motte. Torres was a one man wrecking crew, and one of Gillis' best pick ups. But Motte is a better penalty killer, and won't get those suspensions. Samuelsson - Pearson. Samuelsson was definitely better, but both can play up and down the line up. Malhotra - Dickinson. Malhotra is probably the best faceoff guy I've ever seen. Dickinson, not so much. But both are great shot suppressors who can center a PK1. And now we get to defense: Ehrhoff - Hughes. No question Hughes is better. Ehrhoff was a great puck-moving defenseman, but Hughes is just on another level. Edler - OEL. Very similar players, but OEL was a top 10 defenseman in his prime. With Edler, we thought he could maybe become elite, but he never got there. For OEL, it's more of a question of "can he get back there?" Bieksa - Hamonic. Pretty similar, but Bieksa is better. Hamhuis - Poolman. Hamhuis is one of the most underrated players to ever suit up in Canucks colours. I still think that if he didn't get injured we'd have won the cup. We've yet to see how Poolman will be for us, but he could surprise. Salo - Myers. Don't really see the comparison either. Salo had an amazing slapshot, whereas Myers usually uses a wrister that's not nearly as dangerous. Salo was so good at positioning he barely needed to move. Whereas Myers is more mobile, has more size, and is much more durable. We all know how Tanev turned out, but if Rathbone and Juolevi meet their potential that could tip the scales. Goalies: We had a goalie controversy in 2011, not so much now. Luongo is the best goalie we've ever had, but Schneider had so much potential. I see Demko as being more like Scheider, and Halak is just a great back up. Considering all of this, I think we could make another run with this core.
  11. I'm the most excited about this team as I've been since 2010-2011. Last season went wrong in so many ways. I look forward to getting some redemption.
  12. My two favourite teams. Next season will be fun to watch.
  13. It was very hard to not vote for Luongo. He was absolutely amazing in his prime, and I think he doesn't get enough credit. That being said, Sawchuk is probably a top 4 goalie of all time. Very few goaltenders have had a sub 2.00 GAA twice in their careers, and he did it 5 straight times in an era where those stats were almost unheard of. His toughness is legendary.
  14. Easily Lindros. One of the most dominant forwards, and just a brutal forechecker.
  15. There's no reason to rush Klimovich's development. We need to be patient. What if he played in the AHL as an 18 year old and struggled? It's a tough league. Makes more sense to let him play in the Q, and get more playing time.
  16. The main thing I didn't like about our signings on defense was that I was worried there wouldn't be room to play both Juolevi and Rathbone. Didn't realize Rathbone didn't need waivers to go to Abbotsford. That might be our best option. Juolevi looked really good with Myers. Would love to see that pairing again. It sucks that he got so sick from Covid. But with a full offseason and clean bill of health, I think he'll come back bigger, stronger, and faster.
  17. I think the Hyman signing is slightly better cause it helps more in the short term. I've been a fan of Coleman since his Devils days, but he's not worth ~$5M.
  18. In the last two seasons Dougie Hamilton is 5th in points per game and 3rd in +/- among defensemen. Do you think the Hurricanes would have been 3rd in the standings this past season without him? I'm acknowledging that people don't like the signing for good reason, but I like it because he could play with the Hughes brothers on a dynamite powerplay.
  19. I'm glad we traded our pick, seeing who was there, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and say Klimovich is better than Guenther. Maybe as a value pick, but there's a reason Guenther was ranked as high as 3rd.
  20. Best signings: Conor Garland - 5 years, $4.95M (Canucks) Adam Larsson - 4 years, $4M (Kraken) Signing that I like, that everyone hates: Dougie Hamilton - 7 years, $9M (Devils) Worst signings: Zach Hyman - 7 years, $5.5M (Oilers) Blake Coleman - 6 years, $4.9M (Flames)
  21. Winners: Detroit Red Wings - I love their pick of Edvinsson, who they can pair with their 2019 first rounder Seider. Their trade up for Cossa was ballsy, as Wallstedt was still on the board, but they got the guy they wanted. I think it's awesome they got a guy named Red Savage to wear the red & white, and it just happened to be a great value pick, along with Plendowski. Nashville Predators - Svechkov was one of my favourite players in the draft, and he went later than I expected at 19. I was hoping Zachary L'Heureux would drop to the Devils, so they could take him, but the Preds snagged him up. Columbus Blue Jackets - They turned a gloomy situation with Seth Jones asking for a trade into a potential turning point for the team. They got 20 year old blueliner Adam Boqvist, who already has NHL experience and has shown promise, a 2021 second rounder (which they flipped to Carolina for puck-moving defenseman Jake Bean), and a 2022 1st rounder, which I might actually value more than a 1st rounder in this weird year. They also swapped picks with Chicago--moving up 20 slots--which enabled them to get Sillinger. Although I didn't love Sillinger as a fit for the Canucks, he's a safe pick for Columbus, after swinging for the fences with Kent Johnson at 5th overall. Vancouver Canucks - Benning actually did it: He unloaded our three worst contracts in Eriksson, Beagle, and Roussel. And he got a top 4 defenseman (at worst) in Ekman-Larsson, and a top 6 forward in Garland while doing it. I was certainly nervous watching the draft that Eklund or Clarke would drop to 9 (I knew Hughes would go to the Devils), but they went right before. Benning bet that none of the Big 4 D-men would be there for us, and won. That is a huge win for us. Love the Klimovich pick too. Losers: Ottawa Senators - Doing a bunch of reaches--and acting like you know better than anybody--is not a good draft strategy. Edmonton Oilers - Why did they pass on Wallstedt to trade down? And they barely got anything out of it too. Don't really like any of their picks. Montreal Canadians - You can't defend the Mailloux pick, any way you cut it. To say they will "teach him the consequences of his actions" when they drafted him in the first round--belying those consequences--is just unacceptable. The owner actually came out and said, "We told him that he can't come to training camp," "We feel for the victim," blah blah. What a joke. How is he supposed to learn from his actions when he was drafted in the first round? They could have got him later. Most GMs took him off their boards.
