  1. As much as Raty is a relative unknown, this trade has way more potential to blow up in the Islanders' faces. There's a reason Islanders' fans are so upset. Then again, Horvat could have a lot of chemistry with Barzal.
  2. Beauvillier is a good player. Only 25 and has already has 7 years of experience. His best hockey is ahead of him. We had to offer a protected pick to move Horvat. No one was relinquishing the chance to win the lottery and get Bedard. I'd way rather get a protected pick from the Islanders, and draft 13-17th overall, than get a pick from New Jersey, Boston, or Dallas and pick 30-32nd. Honestly, I want to see the Islanders miss the playoffs... pick 12th... Horvat doesn't want to resign... bomb next year and we get a top 5 pick in a defense-rich draft. As a Canucks and Devils' fan, I would love to see that.
  3. Sad to see Bo go, but honestly I'm happy with this trade. Horvat is having an outlier year. He was consistently a 40-60 point player before this season. Moreover, he's a pending UFA. At least we didn't let him walk, or get injured. Dobson or Edvinsson was always a pipe dream. Raty was projected to go top 3 before he had a disappointing draft year. His play since suggests he should not have dropped. He's immediately our best prospect. We obviously chose the trade with the best potential for a good 1st rounder. It'll probably be in the 13-17 range. I find it hard to believe they'll make it out of the 1st round of the playoffs, and they could miss it altogether. The East is a beast this year. There's even a chance Bo doesn't resign, the pick slides to 2024, and they bomb next season.
  4. Well this thread is a Jekyll and Hyde. The elation in the beginning to now. Boeser is only 25-26. He has 286 points in 365 games. A team will take a chance on him. We should stand firm on not retaining cap.
  5. Dickinson is horrible, but the 2024 draft is looking to be a good draft for defensemen. I'd definitely still like to have that 2nd... That being said, Bear looked good with Hughes last game. He's on track to having his best season, and could take the next step with Hughes. Besides, if we're trading Schenn, it would be good to let them gain chemistry anyway. If we recoup the 2024 2nd round pick in another trade--or better yet, get a 2024 1st round pick for Horvat--then I'm not complaining. We did get Bear for only a 5th rounder. Dumping Dickinson enabled us to get Bear in what could be a minor steal.
  6. I think all the moaning and groaning is a little ridiculous. It was just July 1st when everyone was over the moon that we signed him for less than his qualifying offer. He's not "dead weight" like people are calling him. He has 8 points in his last 10 games, and 16 points in 23 games since Boudreau "made" him a healthy scratch. He could improve under Tocchet. The coaching change could be good for him. I'm not saying we shouldn't trade him, especially if that trade request is still on the table, but we should be looking at him as a valuable asset. I see him making nice passes, heady reads, and he's pulling the trigger on good scoring chances. He's going to start scoring more goals as he gains confidence. I say we hold on to him until the TDL, let him acclimate to Tocchet's system, and see if we can get a good trade for him. We shouldn't retain cap on any Boeser trade.
  7. Keep reading that we're asking for 3 players for Horvat, including a top prospect. Really hope they're prioritizing a 1st rounder. Seems like the 2024 draft is stocked with quality defensive prospects. A young team like Detroit may not want to give up their 1st this year--and leave the Bedard sweepstakes--but would be willing to give up their 2024 1st. Conversely, an aging contender like Dallas might want to go all in on Horvat, but take a step back next year. I don't like the idea of buying out OEL until we're playoff hopefuls, but part of the rational might be that when the biggest cap hit incurs, Myers will be off the books. We need to find replacements for OEL and Myers. I hope they're taking a long term approach with this.
  8. That was actually a great game. Horvat, Miller, and Pettersson were beasts tonight. Same with Hughes--they should keep Bear with him. The Mikheyev news is unbelievable though. With an ACL injury, your forward and backwards movement is severely hampered. It's crazy he was still our fastest player. My respect for him has went up a lot. He was on pace for a career high in goals. Looked great with Pettersson and Kuzmenko. Think about how they'll do next year.
  9. Oh, I totally read that wrong lol. I thought he was talking about both, in separate paragraphs.
  10. Great signing. Ideal cap and term. We can continue to foster his chemistry with Pettersson. Now we need to move some cap out, and get a running mate for Hughes. Obvious casualty is Horvat, but maybe they have something under their sleeves.
  11. After last season management made the reasonable decision to resign JT over Horvat. If we are being offered more for Horvat, they should follow through with that. He has gotten PPGs and tip ins at a far higher rate than he ever has. Our PP is 0/10 under Tocchet, and deflections aren't exactly sustainable. I don't think Horvat will perform as well under Tocchet as he did under Boudreau. It's a difficult decision, but if we are being offered more for Horvat than Miller--and I think we are--trade him now.
  12. I have no problem with Provorov's declining to be part of the Pride Night skate, because of his religious beliefs. But, I don't see how he fits in the culture in Vancouver. Our annual Pride Parade draws hundreds of people every year. We have many gay, lesbian, transgender, and nonbinary people here. We have universal washrooms and change rooms. Straight people go to gay bars. So, he has every right to exercise his beliefs, but I would hope that we took him off our potential trade targets.
  13. Kuzmenko and Pettersson were amazing tonight. Blackhawks' effort was pitiful, but not as embarrassing as that jersey toss.
  14. Rutherford said that his comments were "overplayed," and in a sense, they were. But he openly criticized Boudreau's system in the media, so how did he expect the players to buy in to that system? Nonetheless, the players were clearly distraught about the inevitable coaching change. Boudreau was a favourite with the players, as he was with us.
  15. I like em... I do prefer the originals though. But, we been saying they should be our alternates for a long time, so we should be happy.
  16. I'd way, way rather get Wright than Kotkaniemi. Even Wright straight up vs Kotkaniemi+. I don't see Seattle thinking so short term though. But if they do the trade I'd be pleasantly surprised.
  17. The talk of buyouts does make me nervous. In hindsight, we should have never traded for OEL, and just let those contracts expire. I thought he was going to recapture form, but now I wish we kept that 1st round pick. At the time I was happy with the trade, because none of the top Dmen were there, but now we're stuck with his contract, and he keeps regressing.
  18. I'm waiting until the TDL to judge Rutherford and Allvin. I'm happy with the Mikheyev and Kuzmenko additions. Whether they finally address the defense will give me a better idea of where I stand on them.
