u can draft dmen we have tryamkin that we got in third round and rafferty that was a free ncaa signing and woo a second rounder and juolevi coming up. you can sign more college d and  draft more dmen. podz virtanen boeser horvat gaud petey hughes hoglander are going nowhere  and its likely toffoli and pearson are going nowhere as well

I always say we need to be more into the free agent ncaa pool. The talent these days and entry level contracts without draft picks used is a plus

Would love to see us take a chance on him.

I would love to see it too. If he works great, if not and say even around the 1mil for one year not really a loss. With Tryamkin, Goldobin, and Podkolzin in the system you could set up an interesting situation going forward for Russian talent coming to Vancouver as the history isn't glowing. Bure was the only exception for a Russian in Vancouver to date.

I don't think Virtanen will be that power forward everyone  believes. He lacks the one thing guys like Bertuzzi and Tkachuk have. They are mean and nasty. They don't give a eff about their apponent. They would or will put you thru the boards into the first row just to get the puck. They succeded or succeed through sheer intimidation and truculence.Jake is not nor will ever be that guy.It is something that you bring to the league. It's in your DNA and it's in your character. It can't be taught or learned. Please stop thinking Jake is basically anymore than he is.He really hasn't changed since he came to the league. If he becomes a consistant 20 goal guy then be happy with that.

Funny you bring up that name because I would love to see a Virtanen for Tyler Bertuzzi swap. Detroit would never do it but I'd love to see it lol.

Retain a lot of money on Tanev and maybe throw something else of low value that TO could use in (Biega? 4th rounder? Another corcone level guy?) and I think it’s pretty fair.

you might have to throw in another defenseman as tanev might only be good for 60 games. maybe rights to tryamkin too might get it done.

  5. I've said this all along. Edler is a great defenceman when he is in the lineup. As of late the injuries are piling up and he's in the line up less and less. This is why in my opinion take the money and find another serviceable defenceman who will actually play more. I wouldn't suggest a Karlsson or Myers but someone along the Lines of Gardiner or Sustr for example. The best way is draft and develop but can find help via free agency when that fails.

I really hope you're joking ..but this is CDC after all.

Zaitsev has negative value, why would we trade someone with positive value AND add??

Don't know about positive value when only available for a 3rd of the year. I'm not saying I would add I'm saying they would probably ask for it. A 1 for 1 I would definitely take the gamble as he may come back to the form of his first year. If not no biggie got out from under the injury plagued.

I believe Makar and Heiskanen were going to be drafted by Canucks if they weren't already taken by the teams that drafted them.  Your proposal is a good proposal.  I would think the Canucks would have to get something else back since we are giving the opportunity to reunite the Hughes brothers.

So you are thinking the Devils may have to give Vancouver a 3rd or 4th pick as well?

The 1040 Boys were irate during the Player year end pressor, Edler was apparently checking his phone regularly.

I still hope that Benning has a deal worked out to protect his top 4 d-men. Edler, Tanev, Guddy, Sbisa are all available. If Edler is kept I hope his TOI is cut to 20 - 22 TOI. Less ice and a more defensive stance and he can likely play a 4D or 5D role on this club for another 3 years. Failing a deal with Vegas I would leave Edler exposed.

This might have to be done to initiate a deal.

Once it has been given a chance to show if it can return anything on the initial investment.

This was year one for Virt in the AHL and not even a full year at that. Nylander had parts of 2 years in the AHL before making the leafs near the end of last season ( I think it was near the end and not the start, might be wrong there ) .

Between Virtanens shoulder injury and the odd path his career has taken to this point you have to give him the entirety of next year to get back on track. If he can make it onto the Canucks roster by mid season, great. If he spends the entire year in the AHL, but has a stellar year stats wise, well fantastic, that should mean that he would be ready to join the Canucks for the 18-19 season and be able to finish forming a core of Bo, Boeser, OJ, this years top 5 pick, ect.

Demko is at least 1-2 years away, our D-men still need time to grow as do our forward prospects such as Gaudette/Lockwood ( Even Gaunce needs more time to grow offensively ) . There is zero need for Virtanen on the roster right now. If anything keeping prospects off the team next year gives us a better chance of a top 5 draft pick in a much deeper draft.

I do get this. you do have the same thought almost as I do. So on the flipside you are saying if he stumbles in the A again next year its time to cut ties. This is why he should have went to the A his first year and not been on the roster in my opinion. I think being with the big club a season has definitely stunted his growth.
