  1. I recall the amount of heat I took when I called out OJ for lying down on the ice. I was routing for the kid and understood he had COVID, but that was the second thing I didn't like about him. The first thing......he did an interview after the draft telling the media that he had the ability to make the NHL right out of the draft. I like confidence but that just showed a complete lack of self awareness and some entitlement. I can tolerate that with a hard worker but then he hit the ice like he'd been paralyzed.
  2. Thanks for that reminder! Love the smile at the end too. I wonder how happy people would be with him if he were making $3.5M/yr. Probably most would be content I think. Hoping he has a great year but I wasn't too thrilled with his lack of energy in training camp (yes it's camp, but he's seemingly not drinking what Tocchet is serving).
  3. Let's face it, it was a necessary move to get out of the jam. Losing picks sucks but that path was laid down over the past decade with bad deals. We are where we are now and current management is doing a reasonable job of negotiating past the challenges. Tanner had to go. Fans like him and he was a swiss army knife who was in my opinion a good team guy. With that said, the #1 priority is to enter the season with no baggage and Tanner's situation was one of the distractions last year (to no fault of his own I'm sure). New captain, new faces, newish coaching staff and a new page. Let's move forward, not back.
  4. Bottom line - signing AM to this huge contract, having Nylander wanting $10M/yr, etc......good luck Leafs, a bunch of me-first players is a great way to never hoist the cup. With that said, we're in a similar situation with EP. These guys deserve big money for sure......but winning a cup is difficult without guys leaving money on the table. Just ask Kesler.
  5. -51 over his time in Detroit and 2021-22 was especially rough, so not the player the Canucks should look for. He hasn't put in a full season yet and he had injury troubles this past season. Would agree that a lower end team should pick him up but for a team against the cap it's a tough call. Great potential with his size and skill (and age) but the next few years should be his prime and he hasn't been able to show progression. A gamble for anyone up against the cap and the Canucks don't have problems scoring.....they need strong shutdown forwards.
  6. Haven't been following enough but just watched interviews of this kid and I have to say he seems so much more mature and understanding of the business than many of our previous draft picks. He has decent size and seemingly a head on his shoulder. I never liked the OJ pick but I have to say that this time I have good vibes for the future with him. Best of luck to him and his future.
  7. This is all crazy talk. When do we break this cycle? No more giving up high picks. People say that we wouldn't drop OEL's salary with a draft pick exchange and I don't disagree......but that's the only real move that would move the needle for the next few years. Myers should be out of discussions completely. He should be easy to trade after the bonus is in, and if not, we keep him and suck it up. Boeser isn't problematic, he should be a good trade asset especially if we retain a little....but that's to get back an asset. He's a player that teams should want for the right price. Cap shenanigans are commonplace and management should do just that. Sit tight and let the team gel more over the next year while Myers and OEL salaries burn up a bit more. Nobody is doing the Canucks any favours, nor should we do any for them.
  8. Agree......and it's not just Tocchet but the opportunity to grab Foote and Gonchar which I think may be one of the biggest improvements overall.
  9. I sure hope the Canucks don't give up the 11th pick.....unless of course OEL is packaged up. Near impossible but a guy can dream. Everyone (media included) calling for Myers to be a cap dump......are you nuts?!!! I think Myers can be traded without losing quality (11th pick). It will just cost the owner money but someone will surely pick up Myers as a one-year experiment costing them $1M + cap hit. If not, Myers only has one year left. If we learned anything from the OEL trade, it was that dumping bad cap players with only 1 year left is a terrible deal if you are giving up quality in the process (or taking on more risk in the process). We have to stop helping out other teams at our own demise.
  10. Not getting drafted by your favourite team is one thing......but when you're already considered a star and you have to play for your nemesis team of the past who's now considered a team with a dark history.....let's just say this is a bit mean. I bet he wished it was Anaheim if not Vancouver.
  11. I really wonder about how Bedard feels about playing for Chicago considering how much he wanted to be a Canuck. Pretty sad actually when all we really want for our kids is to be able to choose what they do and where they live. That aside, the NHL is a joke and lacks any merit of our trust.
  12. When you think that 16 other teams in the playoffs are still getting training and coaching, seems a bit of an odd rule. What I'd like to know though is how the NHL hears about these things. Someone's an inside mole / rat.
  13. Did Bettman show up in a new car today?
  14. Watching the Bedard interview before the lottery was interesting. He looked somewhat disinterested saying it was for the teams. Perhaps he already knew it was Chicago and just finished chucking up his third lunch.
  15. My guess is Chicago at #1 now that they've lost their stars.....grrrr. Bedard in Chicago would be brutal. Perhaps he'd pull a Steve Francis to play in Vancouver....hmmm..
  16. Noooooooooo.......well, that was expected I guess
  17. What Petey is worth and what a contending team needs to pay are two different things. I don't think Petey is a discount kind of guy (but I hope he is) and Miller's contract sets a pretty high pay level that Petey will want to well exceed. So this is where it gets even more interesting with this retool team. My guess is that Petey signs for $9.5M/yr x 8 years, which is giving him the benefit of the doubt that he will drop the price a tad. If we pay him $12M/yr, good luck in seeing a contender in this market for a long time.
  18. Agree. Suck it up, hope the cap goes up and ride it out at this point. Let's hope he regains some form.
  19. Agree....I don't worry about what he said too much. Trading him was best for both parties.....and I liked Bo.
  20. Well, I'll add four to the list: Calgary - very low odds, but that would absolutely suck. In fact, I would hate to see them get a top 3 Anaheim - we know Bettman loves his big American cities Arizona - too much talent for a team buried in the desert with few people who care about them Columbus - not much works out for players on that team.....ever. I'm wondering whether Montreal will get a top 2 pick this year. Would be amazing if we actually got the #1 draft pick for once in this franchise's history, but man the second pick would be sweet too. If not the top 2, I just hope we get some size, speed and some D presence.
  21. It was unfortunate he was selected as captain at such a critical time. They should have found a veteran who could take on the role for a few years first (and rebuilt, not retool). Bo would be a good captain on a good team, but he wasn't a great captain on a bad team. Perhaps the team was worse because of it to be honest. There's a time and place to be angry and emotional towards the team and the situation they were constantly in. We saw that with Henrik. He had no problem showing it when he was upset at himself and his team.....he just made sure he lumped himself in there with the blame. Bo was too even-keel too often, and guess what....the rest of the team becomes that too. So he wasn't a lame duck, but no, he wasn't a good transitional captain for a rebuilding team.
