  1. I just noticed that Andrej Palat was the fourth LAST player taken in his draft year. It amazes me when you look at his draft year numbers the guy fell to almost being undrafted. Perhaps he was tiny and grew? What a steal! http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2011e.html

To be fair, Palat was playing in the CR his draft year. He did put up better numbers than Jasek in their draft years, who we took in the fifth round, but Palat was well under a PPG in his D+1 year in the Q and didn't really "explode" til his D+2 season. Even then, his output wasn't amazing for a 20 year old in the Q.

@Sean Monahan Nope, Palat was playing the Q and put up 96 pts his draft year http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=122662

      @nuckles80

Just to clarify, he was drafted as a 20 year old and, yes, that year he was playing in the Q.  When he was 18 and first draft eligible he was playing in the Czech Republic.

  2. And so the season begins!!! Young Stars tonight folks! Woohooo!

@Ghostsof1915 I would assume they will stream it on their youtube channel - they have every year thus far.

Excellent! Young Stars, then preseason then regular season. It begins!

  3. All one needs to look at is Shea Theodore- Anaheim has been patient and now look at him, he came in and looks like a stud vet in the games he played last year. But THAT took development time. Damn I wish we had him! Langley boy too! Regardless, I agree with your point! I wonder if Anaheim if they seem like they are close to a run this year, take Edler and Hansen (and those two players despite Van fans constant underavaluation, are worth a HELL of alot for a team making a run) for him at the deadline? A cup is worth more than a prospect even if he's going to be a strong 2d.
  4. I think his point was that we have two potential high scoring wingers in our system and no potential 1d's...we wasn't comparing Virt to Boeser but rather the role they BOTH fill vs Tkachuk - which is effectively the same role top 6 wingers
  5. I don't think so (on the howling part). It's highly likely that Tkachuk goes back to junior because of his skating, there's a better chance Oly sticks here because of his skating, and I think most fans have come to realize that we (as you said) really needed his skillset in our organization, we plugged a big hole by the looks of it. From what I've read here post draft day, most seem to really like the pick now and agree with JB's choice (at least from my read here). Moroever, the odds of Juolevi succeeding in this league are much better than Tkachuk in my view. Not to say the latter can't or won't be successful but skating has become such a HUGE part of the game now. Weak skaters just don't last. Skating can be improved but when you can find a kid who is as fluid as Juolevi and have a need at that position vs a Tkachuk where you are deeper in his position and his skating is suspect, it was just a no brainer in my view. That skill (skating) ensures Juolevi (with the right development) should at worst turn into an NHL player, Tkachuk's skating could completely prevent him from being effective and sticking in the NHL... Much less risk with Juolevi and higher upside - no brainer for benning.
  6. Forwards don't score at a high rate without dmen who are good at moving the puck and transitioning from offense to defense and particularly QB'ing the pp - just a fact of hockey Look at the twins numbers with Ehrhoff vs without Juolevi will be a stud, and too many here are 'assuming' he can't be a pure #1. Same thing was said about Erik Karlsson who was drafted 15th overall. I am betting every team in the league who drafted prior (including us grabbing Cody Godson), other than Tampa (Stamkos), St Louis (Peiterangelo), and LA (Doughty) would want a re draft and would take him. Draft position means nothing once you're in the league, talent, dedication, development determine outcomes now. Subban, Weber, Keith, on and on, but so many look at the Hockey News Draft guide and think 'well that's all a player is'. I am not saying he's Karlson, but who's to say this kid isn't better? Maybe he's the next Lidstrom. None of us know, only time will tell, but anyone can see, he has talent and a nice chip on his shoulder (which is great, means he's driven). Agree very much with your post!
  7. Most people here are probably too young to remember the gong show, but we need a gong for people who need to be gonged on this site. Perhaps someone can make an id called Captain Numpty and when he come's in and say "ay ay goodby" it means you been numptied and end of discussion.

Loved that show, & Gene, Gene.

Then about 10 yrs ago(here in Japan), saw some George Clooney pic(title?), where they show how that Barris guy was linked to CIA/spy ops, & a nasty killer. Was interesting.

  8. LMAO!!!! 1. PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE I SAID HE DIDN'T STRUGGLE? 2. I ALLUDED TO THE FACT THAT HE CERTAINLY DIDN'T STRUGGLE THE WAY BERT DID THAT CAUSED HIM TO BE TRADED TO US, AND AS HE (Bert) DID IN HIS FIRST SEASON with the Isles + AS HE DID HERE FOR A FEW YEARS (and this was after he'd been in the league for 4 years a well!!!) 3. He's (Virt)19 you think he's Gretz? LMAO!!!!! He's just going to come in to the NHL vs men and not struggle a bit? LOL 4. He played with who? 4th line grinders, ya gonna light up the score board with those guys and 8 mins a game Try to use your brain a bit k? that's what its there for....Give him a few years buddy before you start saying 'oaf' lol I bet Mcdavid doesn't think he's an oaf nor do the other guys he steam rolled at NINETEEN years old vs MEN!!! LOL Henrik Sedin 21 years old as a rookie 29 pts in 82games = .35 ppg Virtanen 19 years old as a rookie 13 pts in 55 games with grinders = .24 ppg and other intangibles (hitting and speed) So Jake is scoring at 67% of the pace of Henrik in their respective first years, Henrik was 1.5 years older and playing with skilled players (at least one in his brother who will be a hall of famer), Virt got Prust, Dorsett, and plug in a crap center Vey or whomever was the center do jour on the 4th line. Not saying Jake will score at 67% of Henrik's pace over his career but simply making a point on how absurd your view is, to judge a player in his first year at 19. 85% of Nucks fans were screaming about the twins being 'sisters for 4 years' guess what - they are going to the Hall of Fame = Nucks fans who make such comments early in a players career simply don't know JACK
  9. I think he has better scoring hands than Bert, but bert could certainly Dangle. Wait and see what Virt can do with a real set up man. The kid can snipe just needs to have someone feed him in the right spots and for him to get to the right spots. Alot to do and learn still. You realize you are comparing a Bert 'we remember' as his prime vs the Bert who struggled mightily with the isles and a few years with us. Virt had a very good first year, he did not struggle, so his trajectory (so far) is actually better than #44
  10. Hutton Gudbranson Pedan Tryamkin Ya come at us beotches...come to our crease
  11. Man strength is a very real thing, I can guarantee it myself as someone who played competitive sports. I don't know why or how it happens but you can lift all the weights you want, but when you age, a man who can lift less can actually be 'stronger' in sports. Perhaps its how your weight / muscle is distributed but its real. So given how tough he is already on his skates, its going to be ridiculous when he's 27-30
  12. Bolded = Oh boy....faster? bigger? he's gonna start alot of brawls in his career because he already hits pretty violently and is clean....sadly players can't take a hit anymore even if clean so there is gonna be alot of fighting when he's on the ice
  13. Has anyone signed Shipachyov? Wasn't the big European UFA everyone was wild about?

Well, no, they do. I just remember something of the sort being the deal here.

Then again, I could be completely off base.

    3. Baer.

      Baer.

Basically what happened is Shipachyov missed the deadline to file for contract termination. Ultimately he ended up at SKA's training camp. After December, he can buy out his own contract and become a free agent. Until then, his hands are tied.

    4. Baer.

      Baer.

It also seems likely that SKA will match any offer given by an NHL team. They are very high on him.

  14. He looks very lean in that picture of him golfing with his buddy's on instagram. I mentioned this in another post. He looks like an MMA fighter and his pudge is gone on this gut. In that pic he's wearing a pretty tight shirt so he can't hide it you can see around his midsection its very flat and he has the body builder 'v' shape. If it's not an optical illusion and he's leaned up that much and is 223 look out NHL defenseman and wingers "somebody gonna get a hurt real bad....somebody" when he comes racing down that wing! Hopefully Gud teaches him a few lessons in self defense as well (and stands up for him unlike Prusty / Mr "Learn to fight your own fights" enforcer!) LOL
