  1. It means they have agreed to take on Myers in the future after we pay his signing bonus...
  2. I doubt we can thing Myers until we pay him his thingy on the whatchamacallit of September.
  3. Which is why my original post said, he is a 3rd pairing guy with potential upside.
  4. i love Ron! You know some people have been suggesting that Juulsen should be our top pairing RD next to Hughes. They are not saying "he has the potential to be" they are literally saying he should be playing there next season. Getting Foote would be a low risk move with some potential upside. Don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that Foote could be that stay at home partner that fits with Hughes.
  5. For sure. I am thinking about potential for a lot of 24 year old Dmen, including Hirose, Rathbone, Livingstone, etc. I am not suggesting Foote becomes a legit 1D. But he has potential to become a top pairing complementary partner to someone like Hughes. Similar to Siegenthaler at the NJDs paired with Hamilton. Just look at a guy like Perbix now 25 years old. A year ago his season consisted of 12 AHL games and 31 NCAA games. Steps up to the NHL and plays 69 games for TBL and looks like a legit top 4 guy.
  6. Foote is a very decent target that we have a good chance of getting. He is a defensively responsible player that can definitely play 3rd pairing minutes plus PK. And he has the potential to be a top pairing Dman in the future alongside someone like Hughes.
  7. But Benning was busy working on the Schmidt trade from 9th - 12th Oct...and Toffoli was 28 years old too...so...way too old to resign apparently...
  8. So Benning shouldn't sign a 28 year old Toffoli to a 4 year contract, but it's a good move to trade for a 29 year old Schmidt with 5 years to run on his contract? I think "hilariously hypocritical" were your words...
  9. Toffoli was 28 years old when Benning chose to let him walk without an offer. He could have been signed for $4.25m x 4. He would be turning 32 right at the end of that contract. That's not exactly the definition of a longterm contract for a 30+ player. And who cares if people whine? A GMs role is to build a decent team, not listen to whiners. Toffoli was a clear and obvious fit that Benning had just spent a 2nd and 4th round pick on. To spend that and have him play only 17 games when he fit so well and scored 14 pts in those 17 games. Hard to believe. Similarly Tanev should have been resigned for the same $4.5 x 4 contract that the Flames gave him. Lots of people whined about Tanev and his injuries. In his last season in VAN Tanev played 69 regular season games and 17 post season games. Most people forgot that he received many of those injuries through his warrior attitude blocking shots and taking hits to make plays. No one has looked as good as Tanev did as Hughes' partner. You don't just let a player like that walk. We had enough cap, Benning just made a bad choice to use that cap space on Virtanen ($2.55m) and Schmidt ($5.95m) instead. These are not poor decisions just in hindsight. They were bad decisions at the time they were made. IMO these two decisions alone were pivotal in our inability to make the playoffs for the last 3 seasons. A decent partner for Hughes and a top 4 Dman that can PK was (and still is) our biggest missing piece (i.e. Tanev). Virtanen scored 5 goals in the season following that new contract, whereas Toffoi scored 28 goals. IMO the failure of Virtanen and Schmidt subsequently drove Benning into the bad trade with Arizona to get OEL and Garland as replacements. Anyway, time moves on and those original decisions were made almost 3 years ago, so I don't dwell on them anymore. But please don't try and suggest they were good decisions that only look bad due to hindsight. Cheers.
  10. Agree that I can't see them being able to move him, but pretty sure he is the guy they'll be trying to get rid of right now before his NTC kicks in
  11. Yep can't see anyone wanting to take on 5 years of an undersized/underperforming winger in Moore. We are having enough trouble moving Garland with 3 years remaining. Arvidsson seems the obvious choice.
  12. LAK only have $4.5m in cap space with a roster of 16 players. They do have a bunch of ELC and RFA guys but likely have to move out another large-ish contract to be able to ice at least 22 players. Maybe they try and move Moore and his $4.2m cap hit?
  13. Might have to switch that to a Forbort + Reilly dream. BOS still looking to clear cap space. We could probably get both those LDs for future considerations or UFA rights for Burroughs + Juulsen. Then trade Beauvillier for Peeke. D line up next season: Hughes Peeke Forbort Hronek Reilly Myers (Rathbone Woo)
  14. He has only been available mid-season when most teams already have their roster sorted and very little cap space. This off season will be the time when we find out if anyone wants Garland and what his value is.
  15. You obviously put a lot of thought into your post and I think there is merit in the two main trades you propose. But I really don't think it's major surgery for VAN to trade a winger for a Dman, plus make a trade for a 3C. These should be two very likely plans for the off season. I don't think all the extra pick trading and sign-and-trades are realistic. Teams are not looking to give up 2nd round picks for assets of lower value. IMO a trade for Faksa is realistic. DAL needs to clear some cap space and given the lack of cap space around the league, I think a simple 4th round pick could get it done. I don't think your trade for Dillon is realistic as it is. Firstly, I can't see us getting the 2nd round pick to use in that trade, so I think we might need to add a young player and a 3rd instead. Something like Garland + Rathbone + 2023 3rd round pick, with just Dillon coming back (i.e. no 2026 2nd round pick from WPG). Even then, I'm not sure WPG accepts. This roster would be cap compliant with just those above two trades: Beauvillier Pettersson Kuzmenko Mikheyev Miler Boeser Pearson Faksa Hoglander Joshua Aman Podkozin (13th forward) Hughes Schenn Dillon Hronek Brisebois Myers (Wolanin Woo) Demko (Silovs) No need to trade Myers until the TDL. We could even have Poolman on IR and bank some cap space. Happy for Di Giuseppe to start the season in place of Pears, if he's not ready. Would like to see us add some center depth for 13th forward, such as Patrick Brown. Don't think Studnicka is the solution there.
  16. I think BOS will look to clear Reilly and Forbort off their books. Ideally trading both with sweeteners. Or even buying both out would only have a total cap hit of $1m. Then they will trade Ullmark for a king's ransom and resign Swayman as their #1 for around $3.5m. All up that nets them $11.5 - 12.5m in cap space to sign 6 forwards, 3 Dmen and a backup goalie. If Bergeron and Krejci come back for one more run at league minimum salary then they can make that work and still ice a decent roster.
  17. I'm certainly not fawning over Tryamkin, just setting the record straight on people posting false information disguised as facts.
  18. Patrick Brown at $775k would be a good option as 4C/4RW or even just as 13th forward for depth. 6'1", 210 lb, career 56% in FO dot, PKs, 167 hits in 61 games last season. Bjugstad would be too expensive in that role imo
  19. Said this before, but trading a winger for a Dman would be a great move. Something like Garland for Rutta, which has been posted quite a few times in Capfriendly now, including by Pens fans. This would address the F/D imbalance and give us cap space to add Graves (5m), Soucy (3m), Acciari (2m), which fills the gaps to make us competitive this season. We still have Myers and Beau coming off the books in 2024, so that's about $10m more in cap space next season to pay for raises for Petey, Hronek, Podz and Silovs.
  20. Why bother posting about what he is like now, when you don't even watch him? If you had kept tabs on him you would know that he is still a very quick and mobile skater. He remains a top pairing Dman in the KHL. He is usually playing on the left side these days. He appears to have got stronger since growing up from a 21 year old boy to a 28 year old man. He has played in 5 seasons of KHL playoffs since leaving VAN. He is in his prime age as a Dman right now. In my opinion based on actually watching him play over the last couple of years he is at least capable of playing on an NHL bottom pairing. I think most fans have sour grapes over him going back to Russia and that is the main reason for the comments like "he's no good", "he'll never make it in the NHL", "hard pass", etc
  21. If Preds would do such a trade, then you jump on it. But can't see them trading Sissons for Garland or Boeser or Beau. They are really looking for picks or young talent with a high ceiling to retool their team. Rather than spending any of those kinds of assets to get Sissons, I would prefer to target Acciari in free agency. Probably get him for around $2m x 3. Sissons is $2.8m. Acciari is 2 years older but brings a very similar game. Sissons: RH, 6'1", 200 lb, 29 years 82 games, 12 goals, 18 assists, FO 53.5%, 164 hits, shorthanded oiGA/60 = 6.7 Acciari RH, 5'10", 209 lb, 31 years 77 games, 14 goals, 9 assists, FO 53.8%, 244 hits, shorthanded oiGA/60 = 4.4 Don't let Acciari's height fool you, he hits hard at 209 lb he is a tank at that height.
