  1. I don't think San jose makes the playoffs without a goalie upgrade.. this doesn't exactly break my heart.. we are in a bit of a pickle with marky playing pretty solid & needing a contract this summer, while Demko is making his case for the calder.. I wonder if marky might be resigned for a bit more than he's worth, and then Demko is protected..
  2. that's right, I believe Elvis is their Demko
  3. Korpisalo is just a back up, not a 1A / 1B situation guy, so that heaves Demko into the #1, which is a bit risky.. but I bet that Clark could get the best out of ol' joonas (although it might take a year..) I don't actually like the trade though - timing is off.. Anderson seems like a legit power forward, but we might have that soon between Jake & /or Podz anyways. best not to upset the apple cart at this point, maybe revisit at the tdl..
  4. some thoughts from the video.. 1/ Quite the punch there - dude got leveled.. suspension worthy imo.. 2/ loved the pushback by both teams: sherwood digs the goalie late, gets decked, everyone gets involved.. not that I'm looking for line brawls, but at least there was a response 3/ who's the Blue Jacket taking 2 Flames? 4/ Looch is a goon.. so glad that friggin plug isn't wearing blue & green.. 5/ F@¢# Calgary..
  5. it's hard to believe they were a fairly integral part of our D corps last season.. almost makes a guy feel bad for Ducks fans.. almost..
  6. the stats I like the best are the team goals for & against.. 47 goals for - tied for 4th 30 goals against - tied for 4th +17 in goal diff - 1st overall this shows team effort & chemistry.. this is why we're pretty much the hottest team in the league right now - last 10 games 8-1-1 it's a good time to be a Canucks fan
  7. a friend & I drive to the coast for game 7, watching it in the Colliseum. There was incredible tension in the air, but mostly positive.. we agreed that if they won, we'd stay for the riot, if they lost, we'd drive home.. a bit naive, I suppose, but we did drive home after the game.. had we known about the airport meeting, we might have stayed for that..
  8. bingo.. I suspect the plan was to have Hughes on PP1 all along, but TG maybe wanted to give him some time to get comfortable.. anyways the pp is way more dangerous & exciting now.. no more carbon copy drop pass bullsh..
  9. yah I thought they could have panned over to Trevor after that hit, since he's one of the few players in history to actually do that.. although, now that I think of it, I'm not sure he was there.. I think I saw his jersey but didn't notice his face.. anyways, that is one of my alltime favourite hockey moments
  10. ok but was that full contact cross country? I think the burnout can be a normal part of the maturing process, and helps players know where they need to get to in order to succeed.. the only real issue I see is the potential for injury, especially with a smaller frame. on the other hand, Green would be crucified if he healthy scratched the new sensation.. even reduced minutes would ruffle some feathers.. better keep the status quo..
  11. this is exactly what I noticed and it worries me.. mentioned it in the game thread and it was prolly closer to 10.. it might be hard to pick out in a 7 goal domination but his game tape might not be flattering I want so bad for JV to turn into a beast & use all his skills confidently, but I'm not sure how much leash he has. hopefully Green gives him a long look with Bo, the team is at least scoring goals & winning some games right now..
  12. wow.. I think I appreciate the enthusiasm? but I do get the feeling that the poster will re read this when his head clears & blush a little.. the party's over Torts, put the balloon down and go to bed.. it was a fun night tho..
  13. I don't want to be Johnny Raincloud here, but Virt has had an off night.. I'm glad he's seeing time on Bo's line, & he's gaining confidence which is great, even getting tucks 3 games in a row, but he's totally blown at least 6 to 8 passes tonight.. maybe more like 10.. but no worries, he's showing improvement this season
  14. I don't think this is our year to buy.. with the cap restrictions we're dealing with - Luongo, Loui, etc - and the stage of development of the youngbloods, I believe we mostly stay the course, it's not our year to make a deep run.. we do need to get the boys some playoff experience, but that will come, either this year or next. pieces to sell? yah sure, the usual suspects.. Sutter could maybe find a home on a playoff team, as could Tanev or maybe even Pearson.. not sure anyone really wants our castoffs, but test the waters anyways.. better to trade Tanev for something decent than lose him to free agency or resign for too much.. although he might be good with Hughes and the 2nd line duties might keep him healthy.. time will tell.. the goalie situation is too soon to judge.. even if Marky got injured & Demko was thrown into the #1 & thrived, it would be hard to part ways with either of them this year. The potential trouble is JM needs a new contract, and we can only protect one in the expansion draft.. it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
  15. Ferland has not found his stride in Van, that much is true.. However, it's a bit early to call it a bad signing.. A gritty winger with decent size & skill who has shown he can tuck a few & drop the mitts is not a bad signing in theory, and something that many people including @Arrow1983 would have been excited to bring in.. and most had him slotted into the first line, giving Bo a good winger in Miller. but how was JB supposed to know that the lines wouldn't gel? but just for arguments sake, who were the available 3rd line center candidates that you would have signed over ferland?
  16. never liked the staged fights, I'm glad they're mostly gone.. and although I never liked the designated goons, I sure was glad that Brash was ours.. what always got me pumped up were the fights that spontaneously erupted between good players during a fast paced, hard fought game.. Like when Jovocop fought Iggy or Bert fought Nolan.. not that these were amazing fights, but they sort of were more organic because these were real good players that were pushed and responded in turn, or leading by example.. loved it when Iggy fought.. if that makes any sense..
  17. they could trade Matthews for Kessel.. oh wait..
