No but based on his trajectory in the shl at his *age* in a rookie season for the shl, I would be shocked if he cannot adapt to the nhl. Players producing these numbers at this age in the shl dont have trouble with having a great nhl carreer. He is also currently playing against men, not sure how much larger his opponents will be in the nhl. I mean anything could happen, he could sustain a bad injury, but as of right now, someone with these numbers at this age in the shl, track to be excellent nhl players.

I dont disagree it will be an adjustment for him on the nhl ice surface, I believe it took kuzentsov awhile when he came over to adapt. But if you think its just easier to do this in the shl, why has no prospect had this pace in 20 years? Nylanders .95 ppg was considered one of the best in recent memory. Lias andersson who was picked at 7 in that same draft has 13 points in 20 games. Mika Zibanejad had 13 points in 26 games in 2012.

You dont intentionally create a losing environment, nobody does, but an understanding that you are going to build and look to the future rather then sign high priced players and compete right now because you dont have the pieces in place to win a cup and the only way to acquire those pieces is through the draft. And that includes not rushing prospects into the nhl either just to fill out your roster. You are looking at things in such a narrow view as if one plans to just be terrible for the sake of being terrible. There has to be an end game or long term goal in mind to bring success and a cup to the franchise. But tanking can involve some poor years to reach that goal because you wont be signing free agents who want big money to long term contracts, and you wont be rushing your prospects, and you may even trade your veterans to acquire more picks and prospects, you will be developing for the future rather then trying to compete for the now. And just so were clear I dont condone players ever not giving it their all either. Nobody is saying that.

Again your sure this is a correlation to a losing culture and simply not due to poor management decisions by lowe/mctavish not developing prospects properly and rushing them into the nhl playing big minutes where guys like hall and rnh got injured early in their careers? Because mcdavid and drasaitl were brought into that culture and the oilers made it to the 2nd round last year. Although in the case of drasaitl they did it properly and sent him down even when they were bad, and they thankfully did that with puljuravi and yamamoto now to.

Yes they went to a single cup and lost, if that somehow proves this winning culture means that its essential to the long term success of your prospects and teams future then hats off to you, my point was rangers are in no better position then the islanders to win one today. I mine as well throw detroit in the mix who has consistently stayed competitive every year and now has a much bleaker future then someone like the leafs.

Many teams are poor and dont rush prospects, i completely disagree these losing culture ruined them, again that was a management decision to rush them and it was quite frankly wrong. Just because you have a poor team does not mean you rush prospects into the nhl. Its not like arizona right now rushed domi, or strome (who is still in the ahl) despite losing. Absolutely nobody has said that either, but it certainly helps your chances when you can draft high and do your home work and have your choice at who to pick. The rangers wanted petersson, chances are he would not have been here past 7.

Your examples were just of poorly run teams nothing to link losing culture. Like I said what have the caps, blues, rangers done with this competitive winning culture? Your again just listing poorly managed teams. You dig yourself into a big hole by poorly managing the team, not drafting well and losing on your trades.... Not because prior years your team was not winning and these players are not mentally broken losers.

By that same token the person above is mentioning the oilers, so mcdavid only had one bad year with the oilers, and the person above is still using them as an example of culture of losing.

LoL your just citing bad teams with bad management. Its not like the capitals have done anything either despite being competitive the last decade. Oilers were poorly run with the old boys club, coyotes are a budget team that has no money. Panthers have made the playoffs a few times in the past number of years despite little support from fans and ticket sales, same with the isles who look pretty good this year with barzal. This is not due to a losing culture. We could go round and round, this culture of losing idea is hilarious though. If a losing culture in itself hurts the mindset of these teams and players, again toews and kane would have never overcame it in the abysmal hawks culture they were brought into. Decades of losing.

Oh we are aware of this myth or culture of losing and the supposed impact on the team, but it certainly didnt effect toews and kane who were brought into a losing culture in chicago. Frankly I think this is more old school lore, good players who are not mentally weak will be fine.

Lets not get to carried away, this is arguably the best (or one of the best) leagues outside of the nhl, nylander put up 20 points in 21 games in the sel, backstrom put up 40 points in 45 games, and those are some of the best numbers put up recently by anyone for a D+1 season, so dominant (depending on your definition) might be tough this season for any player. Of course 40 points in 45 games like nicholas backstrom to me for a 18-19 year old would be dominant, but others might not consider those totals as impressive, it just needs a proper perspective.

Not sure about those weights, if we are discussing pettersson weight and height compared to these players, it should be compared to the combine stats we are going by and those weights are higher for those players. Pettersson was 165 at the combine Nylander 5'11 was 169 at the combine Pastrnak 6'0 was 167 at the combine.
