  1. Jeremy Hanzel a LD from Seattle Thunderbirds just taken in the 6th round by Colorado. Was a league-leading +70 last season. Would have liked the Canucks to have taken a chance on him.
  2. Unfortunately he’s actually a LHD but regardless I agree he’s too good to pass up if he’s still there at eleven.
  3. You forgot Virtanen as a top ten pick (#6).
  4. I’d be happy with Gabe Vilardi, Helge Grans and a high draft pick.
  5. The best Czech forward has been their 6’4 power forward Shapavoliv. Unfortunately he was picked in the second round last year by Vegas. Just after where Vancouver would have picked if they had kept their second rounder.
  6. Interesting to see that Allvin received a call just before the #15 pick from a team wanting to move up in the draft. We’ll probably never know but I wonder if it would have led to getting two great defenceman prospects instead of Lekkerimaki. Pickering and Chesley would have been great picks IMO.
  7. Dan Hodgson. Put up a zillion points in Junior but couldn’t replicate that in the NHL.
  8. That Boston game in 70-71 was the game that came to mind for me as well. I was just a kid and only attended three games that year but that was one of them. Paiement scored his hat trick goal with like 47 seconds remaining to get the win and the crowd went nuts. Been a fan ever since.
  9. He’s a UFA so his cap hit will be whatever a team is willing to pay him. The Evolving Hockey website estimates some team will give him three years at 2.4 m/per. They regard him as potentially one of the best bargain free agents out there.
  10. Mason Marchment. 6’4 and 210 lbs who hits and can score. Would look great as our 3rd line left wing.
  11. Agree. I was really hoping that we could find some way to move up into the second round with Ryan Chesley still available. From what I’ve seen of him he’s a sure fire 2nd pairing NHL defenceman.
  12. I guess the way to do it would be to have any prospective trade with Philadelphia be contingent on Jiricek still being on the board at five. Obviously Miller would have to be the centrepiece of that trade going the other way. Hopefully it wouldn’t also include the Canuck’s number 15 pick as we need all the prospects we can get. Jiricek and Pickering would be a great haul from this draft.
  13. I watched the game in the bar tonight so missed the play by play. Sorry if this was mentioned in the GDT but how many times was Demko knocked over tonight with no call from the refs? And wasn’t J T Miller both elbowed and highsticked tonight with no calls as well? Great effort by the boys tonight to win despite the refereeing.
  14. Another option for a defensive defenceman next season could be Nikita Zadorov. He’s a 26 year old nasty 6’6” 230 pounder who kills penalties and will be a UFA. He can play on the right or left side. It would also be nice to poach a player from the Flames for a change.
  15. I think something is affecting Pettersson’s skating. I’m not sure if it’s an injury or body changes resulting from his off-season training regimen. I first noticed this when I attended a home game in November. When the puck is turned over in the offensive zone Petey really struggles to get his feet moving to get back in the play. It’s like he’s skating in quicksand. For a guy that’s always been such a smooth skater this is really troubling. It could be the reason that all other aspects of his game have suffered this season.
  16. Yet another game when the opposing team’s players are smiling and laughing on the bench when playing the Canucks. Bieksa was right. This team is fun to play against.
  17. Not only did Dahlen make the team but they have him pencilled in on the first line with Logan Couture and Timo Meier. Apparently he had a great training camp.
  18. Anyone know what’s going on with Gadjovich in San Jose? I notice he’s not on their 23 man roster and I haven’t seen him placed on IR. I wonder if the Canucks would reclaim him if the Sharks try and send him down?
  19. Found the game on YouTube. Root Sports. Great goal by Rathbone.
  20. Gotta admit I think that’s the best projected lineup I’ve seen. If the Miller line is used as a matchup line that would leave either Horvat and Pettersson to feast on other teams’ third lines. It would also create two natural PK units in Sutter/Motte and Miller/Dickinson. I hope Green gives this lineup a look.
  21. You mentioned in your original post that “even Craig Button had Jake Virtanen at #6 in his final draft rankings”. This is false. Button did not even have him rated as worthy of a first round selection at all as evidenced by the mynhldraft.com website you quoted. However, he did have JB selecting him at #6 in his mock draft, which is totally different from where Button thought he should have been drafted.
  22. I agree. He’s still great at faceoffs and the PK. Unfortunately I think one of the Alberta teams will sign him for more than we’re willing to pay him.
  23. Laurent Broissoit is a local kid who always seem to play well against the Canucks. He’s a UFA who I believe played for 1.5 mill. last season in Winnipeg.
