  1. Do you think Eichel would be “injured” enough to “hypothetically” stay on the LTIR until ... hmmm ... game one of the playoffs? If so make it happen JB! to Van Eichel to Buffalo 9 OA (1st round pick) JV (Raymond) Schmidt (Ballard) I’ll start planning the parade now, can someone else organize the riot for me?
  2. Well, I’m on a lake, cold beer in hand and enough signal to very slowly load this page. Gonna go for a float and a toke, so could someone kindly yell at the tv, threaten a ref and cheer for everything that Bettman hates (a cup in Canada) on my behalf
  3. The draft table is where I trust JB the most. What do we need the most right now? A big right handed D man to pair with Hughes, a 3C, a top 6 winger, a defensive plan? What will be available at our #9 pick? Will Clarke be there, how about a C prospect that JB likes? I trust his decision and hope it is not made until draft day. I also would be AOK if he gets there and decides the picks he wants are off the board and makes a trade for someone like Cernak. ELC contracts are almost required to put up a contender, but so are bargain contracts. If he can play top pair minutes and protect Hughes the guy is only 24, and a big body. As long as we aren’t forking over 6X6 for the next Erickson there are moves that can make the team better for years to come.
  4. So if I am reading this correctly what was meant was... WHAAAAA!!! I don’t like Benning! Aqualini is cheap! Whaaaa!!!!! Did I translate this correctly?
  5. As long as we are dreaming, why not throw in the Lunogo penalty and I would like a rainbow unicorn too please.
  6. I demand to know how you posted this. I just put down my copy of The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy about half an hour ago...gonna need to drink more and think about this.
  7. How is anyone being negative about this?? @Squamfan clearly has an issue with Jim Benning and Aquaman, but why hate on the Sedins? If it is just a PR stunt I expect that they will leave “amicably” even faster than Trevor did. Also l, does anyone believe that they haven’t spoke with Trevor Linden since his tenure ended? Hank and Daniel are two absolutely solid human beings and I’d rather have them involved with this team in an advisory role, PR stunt or even wearing the Fin suit when people are allowed back in than not at all. Only time will tell if they are anywhere near as skilled off the ice as they are on it, but the organization can only benefit from having them back around the team. I for one do not believe that either of them would do this for the money, and would refuse to simply lie to the fans to make Aqualini more money.
  8. This right here is very true. I’d like to add one more small factor about Jake. He grew up in Vancouver. Some people thrive in their hometown and others succumb to distraction. I strongly suspect that if he is traded to a team like say Florida (any small market away from the west coast) where his team mates would be the only people he knows there that his antics would decrease and his coachability would go up. It’s a hunch and I have no facts to back this up. What I do know is if I was given several million dollars when I stilled lived in Vancouver in my early 20’s I don’t suspect I would have been extremely responsible about much.
  9. What’s the point in talking to players that you aren’t planning on moving forward with? To be perfectly clear I’m talking about Marky and Tanev, not Toffoli (I think we can agree there was a blunder there. Both players deserve the contracts they have, but wouldn’t fit into our cap situation or long term plans. This team clearly is being set up to succeed in the ‘22-‘23 season forward. Demko is our goalie. How do you propose you start negotiations with Markstrom...”we plan on giving the net to Demko and exposing you (a very good goalie) in expansion where you will likely be picked and have to move with no say, please accept this lowball offer and our sincere thanks”. There was no fit for him here. Tanev is aging, and injured every year. We all love what he brings and it showed all year with Hughes just how much that is. I don’t often make predictions with a follow through, but call me out after the ‘22-‘23 season is over and tell me if you still want his contract on the books. These two guys are warriors that deserve to be paid but don’t fit into the long term agenda for the Canucks. We already know what bad contracts for aging vets look like. Until they are properly replaced (Holtby will be gone either way and I know we need a big upgrade on D still) we won’t know if these moves were correct but I don’t think either one helps anything other than making our draft picks worse this year. People here are always unhappy with every move or non move that the team makes. How do we improve from our very mediocre setup if we keep signing every older version we have? I do wish that Jim would start finding ways to trade some of them for assets before they walk but am glad that we don’t have these two part it contracts on our books right now and at the same time happy that two good guys are getting paid well for what they do.
  10. Hamilton is a very good RHD. He will get paid more than we can afford and I’m ok with that. This is not the year to put out big bucks on a UFA. Most of this has already been said but: 1- we need to sign Petey and Hughes before spending another nickel of cap space. 2- despite being a legit top line guy he is not the top line guy we need. A more defensive minded (and more physical) player is needed badly to help out Hughes, Schmidt etc. Not another offence first type. 3- flat cap, young team, expansion year, lots of questions and a bunch of cap opening next year as well as more D expected to hit the market. I will be quite pleased if we sign Hamonic and Edler (or any other vet/reasonable D to a low cap, low term deal and ride out the year. See what we have now in Juolevi, Rathbone and hopefully take a look at Woo as well. If we are going to splurge anyway make a smaller splash and go after someone like Larson that at least fits with our needs and will be cheaper than Dougie.
  11. Uggh I’m sick of these “what if” and “coulda, woulda, shoulda” questions. Marky is gone because Demko has emerged as a younger starter at a lower cost. We signed Holtby as an expensive backup plan that also provides a goalie for the expansion draft issue until DiPietro is ready to fill the role cheaply. Tanev was hurt EVERY year. Yes he is a warrior and is missed but it didn’t help Calgary much to pick him up. Toffoli clearly looks bad now, but as long as we have our crystal balls out how good is he going to be in a couple more years when we have cap and are ready to truly compete. Jake looked better at the time. I still expect him to break out, but not likely in a Canucks sweater. The fallout from that will be huge! “Should have kept him! Fire JB!” We gained experience as a club, picked up Schmidt and Holtby, gave Hogs a real shot (the real winner here imho) and didn’t sign regrettable long term deals for aging vets. I wish Toffoli had an Orca on his jersey right now too, but we don’t always get everything the way we want. Rant over, but I wish these threads could be put together in a new “whining about things we can’t control” section. Here is to the future, hoping the cap savings from Beagle, Virtanen and (fingers crossed) team friendly signings from Petey and Hughes can get us a solid defensive RHD and a third line center. Throw in Pods and we look pretty good. We are well positioned for expansion (again) and Little Things is almost done. The future is bright, stop staring in the rear view mirror friends.
  12. Please please please... Oh hockey gods, I beg for your mercy. I have suffered long and continue to follow my team through ups and downs. Can you grant me one small kindness? Please let the Laffs choke their way into golf season once again while TSN tells us how great they are and that next year is “their year”. I will drink many beers in your name...
  13. Monahan doesn’t excite me as a fan. Decent player, if acquired at a low value and fits would likely be a step up but not really what we are looking for. Johnny is a player we need to keep Jimbo away from at any price. If they want to do a straight swap for Louie I’ll consider it but that’s it. Sure he has talent, but he is undersized, overpayed and doesn’t show up when needed. Oh, I’d also rather keep the stink of the Lames out of our dressing room.
  14. There was nothing illegal about this protest. It did not violate health orders and certainly didn’t break any laws. They were in a large open space wearing masks, and there was hardly enough to call it a gathering lol. Poorly thought out, I’ll prepared and ridiculous... yes, but against the law no. Freedom of expression is a right that is extended to all, even those with no clue that want Benning fired.
  15. Based on past issues and known repeat offender status I believe Kadri will recieve a $5000 fine and the Blues will recieve a $250,000 fine if they complain about it.
  16. Any other poster and I would be laughing, Louie has proven a willingness to cash paycheques, ride pine, warm the press box and basically do anything except play well or retire. If Vintage says it’s possible then I believe!! This team could look very different if Seattle takes Holtby (Mikey D makes an inexpensive replacement) and Louie retires. That’s an extra 10 million. I have to think that sexual assault should qualify for canceling a contract. On top of Ferland and potentially Beagle we would have some flexibility. Not sure what’s available but opens some doors up.
  17. Benning is back...that’s good and bad. I would rather have him at the draft table again this year than a new GM again. Green is well honestly questionable if you ask me. I’m really hoping the assistant coaches (not Clarke) are replaced. It may be the players, but I just see too much talent for the steady poor results. The system doesn’t seem to change. We play against Ottawa the same way we play against Toronto. Our defensive plan is to Hope our goalie can make 40 saves a night. Power play setup is a drop pass that even the most casual fan (me) can see coming. When the opposition changes things up it seems that we stay the same. I’m hoping that there is at least some discussion. If our defence is really as bad as it looked this year then perhaps we need to play a littler different. I don’t have all the answers, but was hoping for some change between the coaching this year and next even if just to prove a point.
  18. Uggh, I hate this part of a crappy season. I love the beginning, full of optimism and the middle where you win some and you lose some. Right now we are not mathematically out but I think even management knows we are done. Cheers to another game, hoping for some highlights from the young guys and a couple goals. I no longer care about the final score as long as the boys show up and play hard.
  19. I like Jake. I suspect he will carve out a decent NHL career. I don’t know if it is because he is lazy, mistreated, due to wrong deployment or what the problem really is. What I do feel very strongly is that when he figures it out, it will not be while wearing a Canucks jersey. Blaming the loss on Toffoli on him is like blaming Markstrom leaving for Petey’s injury. Different choices both crappy. Mark my words, Jake will score a bunch of goals against us before the end of his career but it is time to let him move on.
  20. I’m not sure exactly how to approach this. If Tryamkin wants to come to Vancouver we should entertain the idea and have some talks. The problem I see is that last time he demanded no AHL, no conditioning stints and complained about a bunch of things before taking off for Russia. This time he appears to be in shape but wants to be a top 4 D. (According to his agent). The question being...is he a top 4 D? I would want him signed to a #6-7 D contract and a show me term. Thinking in the 1.5M range. That’s about the most he can make is Russia and I’m pretty sure leaves him as a UFA. Petey and Quinn will be signed, Edler will likely be retired and there should be some cap available. If he breaks out he will get paid either here or he can move on. If he doesn’t then at least it didn’t cost too much. If he isn’t willing to prove that he is a top 4 NHL player then trade his rights for whatever we can get out of Buffalo. It’s possible he is really good and then signs elsewhere but at least we got a year out of him. I would refuse to go more than 2 years unless it’s at league minimum. Who pays big bucks for a guy that has never played at a legit top 4 level in the league?
  21. The score is not important here. This is an opportunity to see why some of our young guys have, a chance for Holtby to hopefully rebound and most importantly avoid injuries. I don’t care if they win a single game for the rest of the season. After going through everything they have with being sick, having sick family members and likely being no where near 100% it is a lot to ask for a solid performance tonight. Hope is always there, I just don’t want to see anyone get hurt in games that really don’t matter.
  22. I think we could save a lot of money on this one. Just fire Baumgartner and buy a white board. Have someone write TRY TO STOP THE OTHER TEAM FROM SHOOTING THE OUCK TOWARDS OUR NET!! We will call it the “systems” board. Ok rant over. I can’t stand the collapsing D plan and would love to see a more structured plan from almost anyone else.
  23. I’m of the mind that players could sit out in the bubble because they didn’t feel like it, they should definitely be able to sit out a game or two until their practices are good enough to play without getting injured. Put out whatever is left of the comets roster, the leafs zamboni driver, a bag of of pucks and Louie. With any luck Louie will score just enough to screw our draft position up and increase his trade value back up to nothing
  24. It’s almost as though people on this board can’t or won’t read. We didn’t trade a 4th for Bowie, we downgraded from a 4th to a 5th. If you claim him on waivers HE HAS TO BE ON THE ROSTER!!!! What is the challenge to understand here. We turned the 130ish pick into a 160ish pick. In exchange we get a player that had already passed through waivers and can sit on the taxi squad or AHL while Juolevi get to play more. That alone is a win in my book. Additionally we have someone to expose in the expansion draft that we don’t care about. You can hate Myers or his contract if you want but our right handed D options are significantly worse without him. This is a meh move that actually fixes a problem. oh wait I forgot BeNnINg SuCkS!! That’s why...
