  1. The quote I believe was from a Russian hockey analyst, who says he knows Tree well both as a hockey player and as a person. Take that for what you will. More concerning is the explanation of why he lost the captaincy in his second season. Again, same analyst, said it was because the coach thought he wasn't hustling enough. I don't know, it's an interesting article, but def doesn't paint him in the best light. Says that his NHL ceiling now, having plateaued in the KHL is probably 6th or 7th dman. Should ruffle some feathers here, I expect.
  2. Corey Pronman over at The Athletic did his mid-season rankings of NHL prospects. Podz came in a 16th, behind players drafted in front of him such as Soderstrom, Kaliyev and Caufield. He didn't say anything negative, aside that he needs more offensive consistency. Pronman has mixed record on Canuck prospects. He wasn't too high on Petey, but drooled over Hughes (ranking him ahead of Makar), so who knows?
  3. The reality is, Olli has had major back and knee surgeries the previous two years, and now, is apparently having hip problems. This is all before playing a minute of NHL action. I like him, I like the way he plays the game, but his lack of physicality has stood out ever since I started watching him last year in the A. As for the injury not being serious, unfortunately, management has little credibility on that score.
  4. Wowsers, that Toronto prospect, Sandin... kid got walked on that final goal.
  5. Podz just did an AMAZING through the legs pass to a player who had a wide open net, and the guy missed. He keeps doing what he's doing, I see first line potential.
  6. Welcome! Seider looks like a stud, Germany has quietly produced some pretty decent NHL d-men. BTW, Bavaria is awesome, I remember I went to a club game in Inglostadt (I think) once upon a time.
  7. Podz looks very solid today. 1A, easily could have had a second if his teammate was a better finisher. He looks big, strong, controls the puck well (a couple controlled o-zone entries) with decent hands. There have been A LOT of mediocre players that have tore through this tournament (and a lot of great ones too, granted), so I'm not really that bothered by his average box scores. More importantly, he looks like he has the tools and mechanics to be a good player down the road for us. Above average prospect, even if it's not a home run. I think with the previous two drafts of Petey and Hughes, we might have gotten a bit spoiled.
  8. I have a hunch Benning is hunting bigger fish. Word had it we were scouting Kings games heavily this year, Toffoli being the most likely target. Benning has gone on record as saying he's looking to add a top-six winger. If he's established, they don't come cheap. Ask him about JT Miller. I wouldn't be shocked if we are sniffing around Brandon Saad or Andreas Athanasiou either. They might have been looking at Anderson in Columbus as well, before he got hurt. If Benning adds, I would it expect it to be a big heavy winger. Oh boy, I know I'm going to get filleted for this this, but I could see the team including Kole Lind in the package. Got to pay to play.
  9. First time I've watched Hogs play, kid is absolutely flying out there today.
  10. Considering the way he was ripping up the SHL at the time, that he finished outside of the top ten in scoring, and his team went all the way to the final, yes, I think it was a bit of a disappointment. I recall Sabres fans rubbing their hands with glee that Mittelstadt was the superior player. LOL.
  11. Something to keep in mind as we watch the tourney. 2018 Casey Mittlestadt was top forward, Petey had a mostly disappointing tournament. He scored one highlight reel goal, but most of his points came against Switzerland and another weak opponent, on the PP. 2019, Hughes didn't hugely didn't dominate the tournament as some expected, instead Poehling stole the show. 2020, both Mittlestadt and Poehling have spent time in the minors and Petey and Hughes are stars in the NHL. The world juniors are only a snapshot of a player's development.
  12. My crystal ball says it will go 1 of 2 ways with you and Hoglander. He doesn't pan out as a Canuck prospect, you will rip the organization for not developing him properly. He turns out to be a star, you will rip the organization for not deploying him properly. Your nationalism blinds you.
  13. I could be wrong, but I thought Dahlen got regular 1st unit PP time. BTW, I have no bone to pick with you about Dahlen. He seems happy playing back in Timra lighting it up. I wish things had worked out better for him and the Canucks. But, I don't get why you're here ceaselessly pumping the tires of every swedish player in the organization, while relentlessly ripping the team. It's not as if the Canucks have a spotty track record when it comes Swedish players.
  14. Exciting game, was rooting for the Ruskies just cause of Podz. Thought he looked solid and dangerous the whole game. But did anybody notice he wasn't first unit PP?
  15. Fair enough! But it's also fair to point out that Rafferty might indeed have more upside. The best Connauton ever produced in the AHL was 31 points in 70+ games. Rafferty already has 20 in 25 in his first pro season.
  16. Jonah has more goals in 9 games this year then he did in 43 last year. I would say he's making progress.
  17. Don't look now, but Gadjovich is quietly, and early, putting up a pretty decent sophomore year. 4 goals in 8 games is nothing to sneeze at.
  18. Yes, he's been listed as day-to-day with a upper-body injury.
  19. I really liked Ferland last night. He had a few nice o-zone entries, created a couple of turnovers, and most importantly, had a long chat with Tom Wilson after he ran Myers. For whatever reason, Wilson was much quieter after that talk. Based on last night anyways, I've got no problems with Ferland's game right now. As well, 3 points in 10 games isn't the end of the world for a guy who probably only has 40 point ceiling potential.
  20. Wow, Baertschi and Goldy have combined for 17 points in 4 games. The are destroying the AHL right now.
  21. By all accounts he's been decent. I watched one game, he was not bad. Believe he has a couple of helpers in five games.
  22. Looks like Guddy has worn out his welcome in Pittsburgh. Healthy scratched 3 games in a row. IF he was in the line up the night Crosby fought, I would have to imagine the Pens have figured out they have little use for him. Tough to see him in the league much longer.
  23. Second healthy scratch in his career tonight?
