  1. hoglander, juolevi, woo, keppen, madden, lockwood, rathbone, just to name a few. not saying I'd personally want to to trade all those players, but we definitely have more prospects with value than podkolzin and dipietro.
  2. I intended this to be just a fun speculative summer thread topic. obviously none of us know how the season is gonna go, but as a fan I find it fun to speculate and make predictions, especially after making some key moves over the summer so far but if yall wanna be h8rs thats your own lifestyle choice and I cant stop u.
  3. 1. Will the Canucks find themselves in a position to buy buy buy or sell sell sell at the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline? 2. In what scenario would it be justified for the Canucks to spend picks/prospects on trade deadline assets to assist a playoff push?
  4. Ahhhhh so it's actually a QO due to him still being RFA. That makes sense. I wonder if the NHL will allow player/club options to be added to contracts in the next CBA
  5. I've never heard of a club option on an NHL contract. Weird.
  6. this dude is an impressive level of arrogant. I like this idea of equality. Would be hard to implement, but not impossible.
  7. Goalies develop on a different curve. He's young for a goalie and arguably a top 3 goalie prospect in the world.
  8. Benning has been absolutely blasted for signing this contract for the 3 years he's been on this team. The fans have really only turned on Loui since he had that swedish interview this summer.
  9. I don't know much about Rafferty and I think i missed the games he played with the canucks last year. This seems like a well-thought out assessment. Thanks for the good read my guy.
  10. 1. Hughes 2. Demko 3. Podkolzin 4. Juolevi (could jump to a tie for #3 if he shows well after knee surgery) 5. Hoglander 6. Woo 7. Rathbone 8. Dipietro 9. Keppen 10. Madden Our top 4 is really good imo. Hughes and Demko have tier 1 potential for their respective positions. Podkolzin is likely to be a tier 2 potential with many thinking he could even be a tier 1 type. Juolevi underrated and could turn out to be a strong #2 defenseman as long as he recovers well from his knee surgery)
  11. I think troy is a borderline top 4 dman. He's probably best described as a solid/high-end #5. On a contending team he's on the 3rd pairing. Look at our defense in 2011. We basically had 6 top 4 defensemen, To me, Troy is the kind of player that would be on the bottom pairing on that kind of team. I love Stech and hope we keep him around.
  12. For anyone that might like to contribute., here's the link below. Brock's still on his ELC and medical bills can be pricey, especially in the states. When you factor in taxes, agent fees and other expenses you can understand how Brock and his family might need some help despite their son being in the NHL. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/dukeboeser
  13. It was more so because of the similarity of the assets given up to acquire the 27 year old winger and career KHLer and the established center/winger ya big jerk
  14. It's worth noting that the draft rankings you see online are not from the scouts that get paid to rank players on behalf of billion dollar teams. They are from internet personas who make those rankings online precisely because they can't get a job with a professional team. If they could, they wouldn't be sharing those rankings online. What we can conclude, is that at least 9 NHL teams and their collective scouting dept.'s did not have Podkolzin in their top 10. Now maybe some of that had to do with his KHL contract, but they at minimum did not view him as having enough upside to outweigh the fact that he was not coming to the NHL for 2 years (which really isnt that long of a time for a drafted prospect). And again, I think vasili is going to be a GREAT player for us and I love the pick at #10. I just don't think he's going to be the kind of player to put up 40 goals or 1 ppg.
  15. If it ends up being a top 5 pick I'll eat a shoe.
  16. I don't see anything in that report that is out of line with what I'm describing, though I disagree with the Rick Nash comp. Rick Nash had elite hands from a young age, where Podkolzin's hands are like a 7.5 out of 10. EDIT: nvm, it does mention good passing. My bad. The Scouching Report has a good review...
  17. For some reason when I first read the thread I thought it said they traded a 1st and 3rd for Gusev, but I guess with the 1st we traded being protected it's still comparable.
  18. Easy to compare this trade to the one we made for JT Miller. Interested to see who yall think made the better trade... Van or NJ? I think it's about even. We get more of a guaranteed asset in Miller. NJ took on a player who is more of a gamble but has a higher ceiling.
  19. Your "FTFY" edit was literally just another way to say what I was trying to say lol. Something tells me your opinion is based off of reading about him and not watching him play. He can be out of position offensively at times and is known to have his head down too often. Every once in a while he gets popped as a result. Edit: I want to add that I think Podkolzin is going to be a great player and an extremely valuable asset for us. The kind of player you win championships with. I just think we're miscasting him a bit.
  20. His vision in the defensive zone is quite good from what I've seen from his play and heard about from scouts/experts. He certainly is not a playmaker and is sometimes out of position offensively. He can definitely improve in a lot of ways. Playmaking is a hard one to teach though.
  21. A lot of people penciling Podkolzin into the 1st line. I actually see him as more of a supporting cast player. Someone whose effort level will always been apparent, but whose skill level has him topping out around 25 goals, with maybe a 30 goal season or two mixed in in his prime, but I also wouldn't be surprised in he never hits 30. He has a good shot and amazing wheels in a straight line, but he isn't overflowing with agility. Doesn't really have a ton of play-making skills. Not necessarily known for IQ. He's kind of like a rich man's Jake Virtanen. My ceiling for Podkolzin is this: He will be best suited in the top 6 as a supporting player. Someone who won't drive the play on his line but will be an extremely valuable asset for zone entry and puck retrieval. I also think his floor isn't far from this either though.
  22. I'm a huge Green fan but I think the criticism of his lineup construction and deployment is fair. The thread creator makes some really good points. With that said though, I think last year's lineup decisions were influenced by at least some priority being given to development and seeing what we had in some players. I think this year we might see more of a priority given to putting players in positions to succeed rather than putting them in positions to challenge them in order to see if they're capable and/or in order to develop them. Green is a young coach though, and I'm sure part of this is just that he has areas in which he needs to grow. As a person of high character, I'm confident he will improve in areas he's weak.
  23. I earnestly believe that the 2008 raising of the 7th man banner honoring Canuck fans as the unsung heros of the team was simply a small step in transitioning the fans into a larger role on the team. After an impassioned 2011 cup run, the fans showed shear heart and determination by destroying the downtown core upon losing in Game 7 to the Boston Bruins. In the 2019-2020 season, I think the fans of Vancouver are finally ready to take the next step in their development and take on a bigger role. The captain of the team going forward should surely be the 675,000 residents that call Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada their home. I, for one, think it's long overdue.
