  1. I noticed before the multiple goals in a row when the game was put out of reach that the boys just seemed tired. Like they hadn't gotten enough sleep or something. Weird mental lapses or picking up on things late that comes with not getting enough sleep. These things happen. They played a bad game against probably the best team in the league. On to the next one.
  2. I think he would also legitimately love to play his entire career in his home town for his favourite team growing up. he's said he'd like to play his whole career here and I think he realized his name was starting to pop up in trade rumours. JB even said something along the lines of "we really dont want to give up on jake, but if he doesnt put it together this year we'll have to look at our options", and maybe that's lit a fire under him.
  3. Still just 23. I can still see Jake putting up 30+ in this league one day. On pace for 20+ this season with only 1 goal coming on the power play in limited power play time. He's making big strides this year. Happy to see the local boy persevere.
  4. You're next bb . also I thought i had you on ignore. he's legal and im 25 why are you guys being so weird
  5. the thought of 25 year old elias pettersson makes me sweat
  6. At 6 feet, he'd be tied for shortest starting goalie in the league, but when you consider legends like Jonathan Quick and Henrik Lundqvist are only an inch taller than him, it's hard to say he's too small. Especially with his athleticism. He'll need to adjust for sure, but he's certainly got the tools to be very successful.
  7. Looking at our prospect pool, I feel like we can afford to trade a defenseman and/or a winger not named Rathbone or Podkolzin for a Top 6 player. Honestly, if the player we're getting back is a legit top-6 27 or younger and not a rental, I'd be fine with parting with Podkolzin as well. I expect a few to disagree but with Hughes, Petey, Boeser, and Bo on ELC's/ reasonable contracts, we should be pushing to open our cup window now. I think Benning realizes that.
  8. With multiple concussion victims having committed suicide and stories of others dealing with severe mental complications due to their concussion history, I think being over-cautious is a good approach. I think it's selfish of you to put your fandom above their well-being.
  9. sometimes laws are in place to protect people from themselves
  10. wait, are you saying you're mad at demko for sitting out because of his concussion? I'm confused.
  11. Canucks came out with the highest grade. The only team given an A+. They graded all the teams. I'm just going to post their Canucks exerpt out of respect for their paywall. VANCOUVER CANUCKS Grade: A-plus 2017 Grade: B-plus Vancouver’s haul from the 2017 draft looks like the best a few years later, and nobody is particularly close. Elias Pettersson, the fifth-overall pick, is an NHL star and is the best player from the 2017 draft. It’s not just Pettersson, though. Winger Kole Lind, goalie Mikey DiPietro and defenseman Jack Rathbone all currently project as NHL players. Jonah Gadjovich has work to do but when healthy he’s looked better. And winger Petrus Palmu has been great in Liiga, but I wouldn’t call him an NHLer as of now. This is a class that could produce a star and arguably one or two more NHL players, which would be a huge haul. 12. I didn't see the game yesterday. Was there a specific play that he might have gotten injured on? Did he fight someone?
  13. Pro scouting successes: JT Miller Josh Leivo Tanner Pearson Jordie Benn Antoine Roussel Tyler Motte Hell, I'd even throw Tyler Myers in here. Say what you want about term. We don't know til we get there. We only have him until he's 33. Pro scouting failures: Loui Eriksson Erik Gudranson Those are the only 2 I would put on that list. You could make an argument that Baertschi could be included on here, but until he ran into injuries (something you can't predict with scouting) he was on pace for 20 goals over 82 games for 4 straight years. You could argue to include Derrick Pouliot on this list, but that was a high reward risk that was taken on a former top 10 pick. That's a risk worth taking when you're rebuilding. Middling players are Tim Schaller (last year mediocre, but much better this year), Jacob Markstrom (has arrived as a legit #1 but took a while), Brandon Sutter (has been good and bad at times), and Jay Beagle . There are obviously a lot more players than I've mentioned that have been brought to the org in benning's time here. I've really just made this post based on whats been done the past 2-3 years, which I think is most relevant. Before 2 years ago, we were a team in the thick of a rebuild and we took more risks on young players (linden vey, markus granlund, etc.) who were considered reclaimation projects. Some of them worked out (Josh Leivo, Tanner Pearson, even Sven would've likely worked out if not for injury, considering his ppg the past 4 years), but a lot didn't. That's to be expected with a reclaimation strategy. If you look at recent history, while we've been on the upswing, pro-scouting has been good.
  14. tbh Miller is performing pretty much as well as you hope a top 3-10 pick would perform right now. 1 PPG player. Relied upon defensively. 58% in the dot. Makes his linemates better. If you get that kind of player with 3rd overall you're probably quite happy. We have to miss the playoffs next year and the pick has to be top 2 for this trade to be even be considered bad. Both those things are extremely low probability.
  15. I'm sure theres a bunch of people who have influence on all picks, including scouts. Benning is the leader of the group though, and has final say. His father was one of the best scouts around in his time. He surely gained a lot of insight from him and surely deserves credit.
  16. I'd also argue that finding a player like Hughes (elite offensive defenceman) in a trade is much harder than finding a top 6, or even top line, winger.
  17. I that 3rd line turns out to be consistently good as it looked against Buf is that the best bottom 6 in the league? I think maybe.
  18. What a 5th round pick this guy was. Screw everyone that says benning's drafting has only been good because of top 10 picks.
