  1. The goalie situation.

Moving Miller goes against the Benning philosophy. Dealing Miller would be outside the box but it should be done by the TDL. The assumption is that a good deal can be made.
  2. Brendan Gaunce Talk

A 2nd season in the AHL does not close the book on either Shink or Gaunce coming up to the Canucks.  IMO it makes their transition to the NHL more of a certainty. For either to be part of a trade suggests the return would be transformational for the Canucks. I suggest the odds are against such a deal. Looking forward to both playing in Van next year.
  3. In all likelihood a couple of years to see drafted d-men but I'm excited by what Carolina has going with their young d'core. All the more reason to trade his vets for prospects and picks now.
  4. I was in Moscow for the '74 WHA series. Not the same experience as yours for sure. What I saw was a regimented people on the surface. Never forget sitting in the arena looking across into a mass of people totally dressed in black clothing. Total silence as if they did not know how to cheer for their team. Soldiers ringing the ice surface,  after the 2nd game where Bobby Hull's goal was not registered, plains clothed single men sitting every 6 seats in the Canadian section.   Were we paranoid? I think not. Howie Meeker held court in the hotel lobby each morning updated all the interaction between the team and media with the secret police. When we went to the arena for games young kids were there trading pins for gum or whatever we had. Plain clothes police were grabbing them and throwing their pins into the bush. The worse example was while loading our bus for a game and a young kid was caught trying to trade for jeans. Plain clothes police try grabbing him and he was terrified. A number of us grabbed him and dragged him onto our bus. Two KGB types tried to drag him off and we all circled the kid. They left the bus and soon another two cars pulled up and more KGB types tried to drag the kid off. After 1/2 an hour they gave up and the kid rode to the arena with us. When we were getting off the bus half a dozen KGB types came around a corner and grabbed the kid and threw him into a car a drove off. All this said I spent a night in a bar with a group of Russians only one who spoke any English. They were very curious about Canada but the undeniable truth I gathered was that they loved their country. Also true that their access to any other standard was not there.
  5. Jake Virtanen Talk

I highly suspect that Jake is being coached to play the game he is. Not much to be gained by him playing a heavy game after game. As you suggest it will come.   I think you are right. Really nothing to be gained by Virtanen playing a heavy game each game out. He has played physical games during the season. The improvement he has shown since the WJC is noticeable. I doubt I have watched a game this year where he has not been noticeable. Next year will show more physical play IMHO.
  6. K-Wing Talk

Early yet but Johnny Hockey and Gallagher come to mind. Very much a long shot.
  7. Hunter Shinkaruk Talk

Methinks you slotting young players into NHL roles in a very premature fashion. That said I agree that fans generally overvalue the prospects. The issue is depth. Van does not have a lot of depth so the chances of a gem surfacing is less likely. I am one of those who want the Canucks to drop down to a top 5 draft pick. Also want Benning to move his vets for maximum picks and prospects. The Canucks have no where near enough talent in the org. A 1D and 1C have to be the draft priority.
  8. Brendan Gaunce Talk

Where is Van's big C coming from in the future? Horvat has size but is he a 1C, to early to tell. The way Gaunce is being developed in Utica is encouraging as he will have a balanced approach which should make his transition to the NHL easier. I envisioned Gaunce pushing for 3C at some point. Draft priorities for Van is a 1D and 1C. With movement of vets there is a chance that Benning will have 2 first round picks.
  9. [Official] 2015-16 Utica Comets Thread

No Prust? Early for Webber. Some of the vets like Higgins, Prust and Weber will be moved by the end of February but I hope they can solidify a Comet playoff standing. IMHO a long Calder Cup run is more important to the Canuck org than the Canucks actually making playoffs.
  10. [PGT] Calgary 4 Vancouver 1 Feb 6, 2016

Change is coming! D-core has had toughness issues since Big Eddie and Ohlund.
  11. [PGT] Calgary 4 Vancouver 1 Feb 6, 2016

I think last night has Van at #7 draft pick. There are at least 3 teams who have a legit chance of passing them. If that happens it puts Van in a great spot at Draft Day. I actually thought Calgary was lucky to get their points as Van had lots of chances. That said Van does not come close to the talent that Calgary can ice. They are more advanced in their timeline and likely will pass Van in their playoff run. IMHO Van is show casing the vets they want to move. That is why Bartkowsi plays rather than Biega. Hammer had a decent game all considered and he is the prime candidate for a trade. Throw Vrbata in as well but his play is not a +. I honestly do not believe there is a player younger than 29 who Benning would not listen trade about. I would add Tanev as an exception. His value is not likely to get better than now. IMO he is a great regular season d-man but not a CUP contending d-man.
  12. That moose could just as easily turned back into that vehicle and caused great kaos. Not funny but potentially very dangerous. 50% chance a moose charges if close in the wild.
  13. Nikita Tryamkin Talk

Not as good as the NHL and I wonder if as good as the upper levels of the AHL. It is a different game over there and that is why I put more faith in the AHL as a finishing school for the NHL.
  14. [Official] 2015-16 Utica Comets Thread

More important that the Comets have a long playoff run than the Canucks actually making the playoffs.
