The irony of you saying this while disagreeing with my position.

The jersey removal is a consequence to the action of spewing vitriol towards players and wanting them deported.

Time to accept the consequences and learn from them.

I don’t know why you continue bothering to reply to me, I have no interest in discussing anything and truthfully, you don’t either, your mind is always made up, but you do this shtick every time. The only thing we agree on is sexual assault and harassment is bad. There’s no point going around in another circle in another thread while you excuse anything anyone ever does or says that’s intolerant and once again blame the victims because it’s always their fault for everything. Like I said before, revealing as always MM.

  2. The amount of backlash that asking people to wear a goddamn rainbow elicits from some people here is exactly why pride and the LGBTQIA2S+ community needs to be supported publicly, loudly and openly. Seriously, it’s a frigging rainbow and not that difficult to wear for 1 night out of 365 days in the year. You may think we have moved to a place in history where it isn’t necessary, which would be great if it were true! But we clearly haven’t, at least not all of us, not even in so-called tolerant and progressive Canada.

Do you know how many crimes are committed against gay people today? A 64% increase in Canada as of 2023 for reported cases, likely more in actuality. Or pride paintings defaced? Search paved rainbow defaced. Or children abandoned? 25-40% of all homeless youth identify as LGBTQIA2S+ in Canada. Or people contemplating suicide? 3x the number as their peers. Or slurs yelled? I’ve heard them myself, it’s impossible to quantify. Or any of the horrific things people today (yes, today in Canada) in the community still face?

They are still in 2023 persecuted and discriminated against by others just for being who they are. What is frustrating is these people pushing back against progress will never have to experience any of it and because they or someone they know don’t experience it, they just assume it doesn’t happen, which in turn leads to them getting upset if anyone criticizes their views on the subject. But this still happens, far more than it should, which is why these events are still necessary and worth doing.

Maybe they support inclusivity in hockey but don't support some other things promoted under the rainbow banner and Pride iconography.  Who knows.

This argument is getting a bit far fetched no? Or is this the case with every flag and group that if you wear/show it, that you must support everything that results under it? Because I’m sure most Canadians don’t agree with everything Canada has done in the past with slavery, residential schools and Japanese internment camps to name a few, but we still proudly fly the national flag today. I sure as hell don’t like everything associated with pride and the LGBTQIA2S+ community, but I still support the symbol. I don’t support the arsonists, people who destroy property or those who hate the police, but I do support Black Lives Matter.

It’s not about finding the bad in every group/flag/symbol, which you will find in every single one of all political/societal forms. If you say you can find 1 that doesn’t have any negative parts behind it ever or people you disagree with, you’re lying. It’s about showing our support for the vast majority of good behind whatever flag or group we’re talking about. Letting whatever bad there is overshadow everything good literally means that you can’t support any group, symbol or flag, ever.

If you choose not to show your support, that’s your choice and it’s also other people’s choice to judge or criticize you for doing so. Everyone has choices and everyone is free to make whatever one they choose. They must also accept that others may disagree with your choices and make sure you know it. As long as they aren’t threatening violence, they should be allowed to do so.

One last point to make: there’s 25% of Canadians and 30% of Americans who don’t support gay marriage according to polling. Hockey is known to be disproportionally made up of conservatives of which that group tends to be one of the least accepting of gay marriage in polls. It’s extremely likely, if not guaranteed that of the 800 or so players who play in the NHL, there’s more than the 8 players known who don’t support gay marriage, but they still wore the pride jersey and didn’t make their views known. There also exists a choice to not say or do anything.

In declining to wear the jersey some of these players did make statements that they do support hockey being inclusive and accessible to everybody and that wasn't good enough for a lot of people.

Actions and words are not the same. There’s levels. The whole saying actions speak louder than words. People can say whatever they wish, but if it’s not followed by actions in support of those words, to many people those words ring hollow and leads to anger/backlash.

It’s like if I said I love all people after text message evidence was found of me saying I hate all conservatives. I said one thing, but my actions, the texts, said something different. People would then rightly question whether I actually believed what I said or if I was just saying it to appease those upset at me and didn’t mean it. It would also rightfully generate backlash, not because of what I said, but because of what I did.

What you’re arguing is that people shouldn’t be critical of these players actions because they said something different. Both obviously matter, but to me actions matter more.

Can't recall who I was speaking to previously, but they said they didn't think Boeser would be disappointed he wouldn't get to wear his Hockey Fights Cancer jersey going forward. Even the most boring man in hockey is vocally disapointed about this decision. My respect for McDoodoo just went up a little bit.

    Kris Letang gets it:

"I understand sometimes why they didn't, but to me, it doesn't mean that you're fully supporting or not supporting it.

"It's just to make our sport accessible to everybody."

I agree that any player who didn't participate shouldn't have been asked about it. I think the easiest solution would have been the team just saying something generic like the player had an equipment issue.

My initial post was meaning that if there wasn't so much backlash against these players, the jerseys would not have been cancelled. Everything would have continued as normal, with a small handful of players not participating.

But because people have nothing better to do than throw a fit over which jersey a millionaire athlete wears, now they're gone. They'll blame Bettman or the NHL, when they really only have themselves to blame.

“If people not willing to show acceptance for a historically marginalized minority weren’t publicly criticized for being people not willing to show acceptance for a historically marginalized minority we’d still have pride night warm up jerseys”.

Do you ever once stop to consider what you’re actually saying? Revealing as always, MM.

  7. To add to previous users comments, the parksville sand castle competition is incredible, it attracts professional teams from all over the world, I’ve seen some from Japan, Australia, Spain, Brazil etc. and the tourists come from all over to view the masterpieces, they used to have a pin board where people can put a pin for where they live and it’s usually a packed board, even seen some Fiji tourists! I don’t know if they still do that board because it’s been a while since I’ve been. Also you get to vote on which team/sculpture/scene wins.

The Sooke zip line is great, the longest one they have is 1000 feet, you get going pretty fast looking over top the forest. Wildplay may also be worth looking into, it’s obstacle courses in the air for climbing, jumping, swinging etc.

There’s some safe relaxing river tubing runs mid island with gentle currents, so you don’t have to worry about rapids.

There’s a ton of parks to explore/camp in on the island from top to bottom, though they’re usually booked up in advance because they’re so popular, so the sooner you can reserve the better.

There’s sooooo many wineries/distilleries/cider/breweries you can tour on the island if you enjoy that. I can’t list them all, it’s close to 100. There’s 40 breweries alone to give you an idea of how prevalent alcohol producing companies are.

Whale watching is a very popular activity, though not every group gets to see killer whales, it’s luck, when I went we saw two, a mom and her calf that disappeared and hadn’t been seen in a very long time which was feared dead. A very pleasant surprise for the trackers.

Bird watching is huge, though fairly new, but it’s rapidly growing in popularity. Nothing like being among nature, hearing the calls and trying to spot some birds, quite relaxing imo. You may even find a rare one that makes bird watchers from all over the world travel to come see it like the Nazca Booby bird that was spotted in Duncan last August.

If you like museums, one of the best in Canada is down in Victoria called the Royal BC museum and adjacent to it is a real IMAX screen, 4 stories tall with surround sound. Sometimes they have real films, other times it’s only documentaries, but it’s an experience like no other and there’s only 10 real IMAX theaters (not just fake IMAX screens) in the entire country. There’s also many other galleries/museums/indigenous art places scattered along the island.

If you like surfing, Tofino or Ucluelet is the place to be, but it’s usually still pretty cold, so wetsuits would be a good idea. I stayed in an authentic hand carved wood cabin a while ago up there and I still remember it’s beauty.

Lots of farmers markets everywhere, you can find some really cool, unique homemade products you can’t find anywhere else.

Summer festivals and concerts occur pretty much every weekend somewhere and there’s all sorts of different ones from Jazz to film to beer!

Miniature world and the bug zoo are pretty popular, but for me it’s not must see.

Butchart gardens and the butterfly gardens if you come south are both incredibly beautiful.

Light houses, some aquariums, bungee jumping, sky diving, suspension bridges, atv rides.

It’s really hard to list everything you can do on the island because if you did 1 thing or 1 place a day it’d take years to see everything. It all depends on what you and your family’s interests are and how far you’re willing to travel.

I hope I didn’t overwhelm you with options and that you enjoy your upcoming trip! People there are a different breed, the relaxed island lifestyle is very unique.

  8. Bruce brought light to a team surrounded in darkness. His joy and personality seeped into everyone who saw him, which is why he managed the impossible to get universal support from Canucks fans regardless of the score. He was too good for us and didn’t deserve the revolting treatment management gave him. I will always stand with Bruce and remember his time with us fondly. I wish him the very best in whatever his next job is, he’s a good guy who was easy to cheer for.

  9. 25+ years of investment in the team, merchandise, tickets, roping other people into the fandom, watching every game no matter how they played. I’m done. This is the final straw and I’m not coming back until all of management is gone. The irreparable damage they’ve done to a team I’ve loved since the moment I saw my first game with Sedins working their magic is unforgivable. This black stain will never be removed.

When this quick fix plan fails and believe me, it will, they’ll have no cup and an extremely alienated fanbase. Will it all have been worth it to treat a Hall Of Fame coach as a piece of garbage like they did? Despicable organization and I hope the fans show their displeasure by making the arena empty every night. They don’t deserve a dime.

It was also heavily short sold. Which lead to a series of squeezes that drove the price higher. Musk's spats with short sellers were very public which only added more fuel to the squeezes. In April 2022 Bill Gates announced he was short Tesla stock. Musk retorted by tweeting the following........

Incidentally, April 2022 was near the top in TSLA.

Wow, I had no idea. Also who the f is stupid enough to pick a fight against Bill freaking Gates.

Maybe Teslas are just overrated, overpriced, well marketed Craperolla?

Bingo. The reason the company got so big was because they were the only EV option available for a long time. Now that they have competition for a cheaper price they’re struggling and this was happening before Musk went crazy in public, that only hastened the deep descent that was going to come at some point. You can’t be valued at 3x what Toyota is, 10x what GM is or 30x what Ford is when you only sell vehicles in a market that has only a 20% share of cars sold globally even if they have a monopoly (which they don’t anymore).

I think the only reason Tesla stock went so high in the first place was two-fold. Partly because they were the only vehicle available, but mostly because investors saw his SpaceX success and assumed Tesla would follow or in other words the performance of another company sold the Tesla company as a good investment. That usually never works out, as each company is a totally different beast. Now they’ve got nowhere to go, but down unless or until they start making more affordable options and even then the permanent damage has been done thanks to Twitter and it will never reach anywhere close to the heights it once was.

Welcome and it took you long enough, I was there at game 20...These road losses are perfect. The games have been entertaining and the defensive holes are more and more visible. A top 5 pick and unloading some cap space is needed to get out of purgatory. I still don't understand the OEL/LE deal--an advised desperate measure. I mean the guy only had one year left in his contract. I wager the new management won't make the same mistake. I hope they lose every road game and rumble at home for the balance.

I’m an eternal optimist, even for my beleaguered, but beloved Canucks. I can’t help wanting the team to succeed no matter how badly they play. I keep thinking and hoping that one day it’ll finally all click as it has in spurts, but even if it does now, it’s too late to salvage the season, so there’s not much point.

The 15-16 and 16-17 era teams weren't competitive but at least they showed more heart than I've seen this season, we were at a point where our being bad wasn't really surprising

What I've watched the past two seasons has been more of a tragic comedy

Definitely agree, but all the guys who fans wanted gone made up those teams. Sometimes it’s not just about the points, it’s about the people. That’s what we had then and are missing now. This is a great lesson for our fanbase to learn: value is not just who scores the most.
