  1. Thoughts: Mikheyev-Horvat-Boeser line. It was on fire tonight. Keep them together, Canucks look to have struck gold with these 3 players combining for 4 of the 6 goals and 11 of 17 points. They maybe have finally found a good place for Boeser to play. The Canucks had a rare game where every time the puck was in our end, there were forwards back to assist our D-men. It makes such a huge difference having 2 or 3 options to get the puck out because the forwards from the other team can’t cover them all. They fought just as hard on defending as they did on offense. Again, it makes such a huge difference. San Jose whenever they had the puck our players were right on top of them, giving no time or space to make plays. Canucks were aggressively on any puck possessor and it showed in the final score. Very disciplined game. Only 2 penalties and when your PK is atrocious then that’s a very big boost to your chances of winning. OEL and Myers had a great game. Canucks found success last year with that duo, I think they should keep it for a while. Hughes was on a mission, that’s the Hughes 1D Canucks fans fell in love with. Glad to see him emerge again. I hope he continues having that extra fire, energy, speed and determination. Martin had one of his best games ever. Robbed San Jose of at least 3 or 4 goals. Seriously impressive. Studnicka is one of those quiet and rare players who can go much of the game without doing much, then suddenly take a nothing play and create a great scoring chance. He can do that at any time and you never know when it’s going to happen. Soon those chances are going to start turning into goals and points for him.
  2. You just know in your gut that even when Dermott comes back they’ll do something stupid like scratch Bear in order to keep Stillman playing. I get that every coach has their favorites they give more ice time and opportunity to then others, but our coaches seem to pick the most bizarre choices.
  3. Are any of the games televised locally or province or country wide or online? Or do you have to go to the games to see them?
  4. Either the Canucks have managed to nail every single goalie pick they’ve had in every single draft or Ian Clark can turn almost anyone into a NHL goalie and is our most valuable team member. Delia, what can you say, outstanding effort tonight. I haven’t seen that type of performance since last year’s vezina Demko. Hope he gets more games.
  5. Every day I think Musk couldn’t possibly get any worse and every day he manages to surprise me. Who on earth does something like this? Seriously, this has nothing to do with politics or ideology. Suffering isn’t partisan. What a piece of garbage human being.
  6. Lock Pettersson up for anything under $10m per year long term. He’s the soul of this team.
  7. I think by now it’s pretty clear that what Musk says about anything isn’t to be trusted. He doesn’t mean anything he says. He’ll lie about anything, including faking an attack on his child to gain sympathy and support. Benefit of the doubt he does not deserve.
  8. Do you want a cookie @JohnTavares? I think I’ll give you a cookie. There is such a thing as a sore winner, just food for thought, literally.
  9. So, anyone still think Musk doxxing someone isn’t dangerous? That his supporters won’t do anything to someone who falls in Musk’s cross hairs? You better not after reading this. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/12/12/musk-twitter-harass-yoel-roth/ Meanwhile, a former top Twitter official fled his home amid attacks following Musk tweets
  10. Musk can go right on ahead in his endless quest to piss off the libs and the pissed off libs in return can choose not to spend money with his companies. Consequences. It’s not like they’re forced to only buy a Tesla, there’s plenty of EV vehicles out there that are cheaper and better made. Whole freedom to choose where you spend your money thing. https://www.cnet.com/tech/tesla-buyers-are-bailing-because-of-elon-musk-the-worst-troll/ Tesla Buyers Are Bailing Because of Elon Musk, the 'Worst Troll' Tesla salespeople say "a lot" of customers canceling orders blame Musk's Twitter behavior.
  11. Tonight is a great example of why trading Pettersson would be a terrible idea.
  12. I’m being serious, can we sign Marie Philip Poulin, Hilary Knight or any one of the elite national women hockey players? They never seem to take a night off. Time for the women to show the men how hockey should actually be played.
  13. Put skates on Christine Sinclair, she couldn’t be any worse and actually would give it her all. Tonight was such an embarrassment for the team to produce that game for her.
  14. I’m as frustrated as anyone, but if someone thinks this they definitely haven’t watched this franchise since the very beginning. There have been many more iterations of the Canucks who were even more terrible. Sadly, the frank reality is 75% of the time when the Canucks have existed has been mired in mediocrity or worse. The good times are the rare ones and it’s why they’re so cherished and memorable by fans who are used to losing.
  15. There’s a lot of information to unpack here, but I think these are the most important bits that pretty much tell us everything. First off Hockey Canada were disgusting scumbags. If your first response to a sexual assault allegation isn’t to talk to the alleged victim, file a police report or immediately start an investigation and instead is to let the player accused know so then they can harass their alleged victim then your priorities are out of whack. Rotten to the core. Going to take a long time for Canadians and sponsors to trust them again, at least for the men side if not in totality. Hockey Canada created basically a slush fund to deal with sexual assaults indicating they thought this could happen and wanted to be prepared to make any allegations or lawsuits go away. That’s absolutely appalling. Rather then trying to teach their players that this isn’t ok, they only wanted to cover it up after it happened and cared nothing about trying to prevent it in the first place. Again a rotten organization needing of a full cleaning top to bottom. What the player may think is their get out of jail free card actually does the opposite of what they hoped. Creating very short videos with the player specifically asking the necessary questions to get the players off the hook in case it came back to them is extremely suspicious, especially with the questions asked. I could understand if it was 6 or 12 seconds of a video of the entire act, but to purposely record only enough for the right words to be spoken by the woman to remove any culpability means they thought they could need proof later on indicating they knew what they were doing was wrong. Also if a player tells police they recorded the videos because they worried about a police investigation it again indicates the player knew what they were doing was wrong. 8 drinks for a young woman is a lot. Most men can’t handle that much before getting intoxicated to the point of being unable to think clearly and function properly. I have zero doubts she was extremely drunk that night. Not all the time, but most of the cases where someone is lying they make the incident as vague as possible, so it’s as believable as possible. Putting in details like “golf club sexual acts” when someone’s not telling the truth doesn’t tend to happen because the liar thinks it’s too bizarre to be believable. They don’t think to add something strange or very unique to their embellished story. This to me points to her telling the truth. Engaging in a sexual act in silence is a huge red flag. Not all people, but most when having sex at some point would say something. This indicates the alleged victim was unable to consent. She also blamed herself for what happened, saying it’s her fault, which is a classic response to someone being sexually assaulted. The fact that the mother and husband immediately called the cops and Hockey Canada is evidence they thought something very serious went wrong. Details like her mother saying she saw her in the shower clasping her knees and rocking back and forth isn’t something a faker or a coordinated fake story says, especially not to the police, so it points to that being true. The player reaching out to his alleged victim asking if she went to the police is another instance of an admission of guilt. They wouldn’t do so otherwise and they certainly wouldn’t ask what the woman could do to “make this go away”, which is another damning piece of evidence towards the player being guilty. I believe her. I don’t see much evidence to question that it happened exactly as she alleged. Whoever is responsible for these vile acts should see jail time. I hope justice is done and the victim can one day be at peace.
  16. No to trading: Hughes - We waited 50 years to get a guy like this in the franchise. We may never get one again. He’s the needed 1D cog that all Stanley cup winning teams have. Demko - He’s far too talented to not bounce back. Vezina caliber goalie, just struggling right now, which all goalies go through in their careers. Clark will help him figure it out. Pettersson - A future captain and 1C. Has a skill level very few have in the NHL and has improved enormously since he first started playing. You don’t recognize 1st year Petey compared to where he is now. He’ll continue to work hard and do whatever it takes to continue getting better. He very much reminds me of the Sedins. Bear - He’s been a breath of fresh air, is still young in D years, only cost a 5th to get and only has a $2.2m cap while playing in a top 4 role. Imagine if he grew into that role, how much of a bargain we’d have. We need more cheaper D with good value and if he had a good, reliable partner on the back end he’d be even better. Our promising young AHL/NHL tweener prospects - Giving up on Podkolzin, Klimovich and such would be a big mistake. They’re still learning the game and could become extremely valuable players in the future with what they bring. Selling low is a bad idea at any time unless absolutely necessary. Don’t care what the offer is on these guys, I’m not trading them because nothing we get could ever be worth what they bring, in addition to their strong potential to improve even further. Everyone else can go for the right price, which differs for each player obviously, but no I wouldn’t take a dumb offer like a 2nd for Bo just to get “something” for fear of getting nothing like some users here advocate. Would also like to keep Schenn as he seems to be one of the few guys who gives 100% every single game, is a leader, role model and exemplifies to our young guys how to play the right way, but he can always re-sign with us in the off-season like he did last time.
  17. This is the most Jekyll and Hyde Canucks team I can ever remember. Can beat the best or not. Can beat the worst or not. No consistency whatsoever keeping them always in the middle of the pack. It’s so incredibly bizarre how players can look dynamite one game then crap the bed in the next. I’m sure Bruce is just as frustrated as we are and if he had hair still, would have pulled it all out by now.
  18. If you bet on yourself, then taking a short term deal allows you to maximize your salary potential. If he thinks he’ll continue improving and become even better then he is right now then taking say a 1-3 year deal at 6 or 7 per means that if he does produce at a higher level he can then ask for more on his retirement contract. It’s what Boeser, Pettersson and Hughes did. Let’s do the math to explain why he could choose a short term deal. At 8 years for $6m per he makes $48m overall. At $6m per for 3 years he makes $18m. Then if he’s a PPG player who scores 30-40 goals he can ask around 9 or 10 for the next 5 years after. Using the lower end he makes $45m over those 5 years. Add up the total and he makes $63m overall. If he doesn’t play as well for whatever reason from an injury, chemistry issue, team issue, mental health issue, motivational issue etc then that would be a major impact to his total salary over his career. At $6m per for 3 years followed by let’s say $4m for 5 years then he makes $38m overall, a significant pay cut from what a guaranteed 8 year contract would bring. It all depends if he wants to take the safe bet so regardless of injury or regression in his play he still gets guaranteed millions or if he wants to take a bit of a risk and sign a short term deal in order to try to make more money overall with the chance he could make less if something bad happens. One never knows when a hockey career will suddenly end. There’s lots of players who get injured and afterwards never play at the same level. Some guys want to play it safe, others want to try to get the most dollars possible. My guess would be his preference is a short term show me deal given what we know about him already, but that’s just my personal opinion. I definitely wouldn’t be complaining if Canucks signed him long term for lower dollars. He may only mostly be getting tip in goals, but that in itself is a rare skill that’s very valuable in the NHL so he’s going to get paid big dollars regardless of his decision between a short or long term deal.
  19. Wolanin I think if I recall correctly. Good move regardless, but I’d love to see him get an actual game at some point. He’s been doing very well for Abby and might just be ready to make the jump to the NHL.
  20. So wait, he admits he didn’t ban those journalists for “doxxing” him and instead did it because the self-proclaimed free speech absolutist who has reinstated literal nazis didn’t like what they said about him? Then excuses it as “well, at least I didn’t murder them, banning them is not nearly as bad”. This clown show keeps getting better and better. Like I said before, he thinks he’s the ruler and above all on Twitter and he needs constant gratification of love, praise and adoration. When he doesn’t get that, his brain can’t handle it and he lashes out or silences his critics. It’s quite remarkable how similar he is to another guy. I’m very curious to see what @Smashian Kassian thinks about this given the now proven to be false reasoning they used in their argument, of why Musk said he banned those journalists, who still did a doxxing of his own. So he lied, again and proved to be a hypocrite, again on two different issues at the same time: why he banned the journalists and saying he feared being doxxed by someone tracking his plane. Genius right here. These types of people count on ignorance/tribalism from those who either disagree with some/many/all of the beliefs of the person pointing out their obvious intentions or those who agree with the beliefs of the person being criticized to constantly side with and defend them irrespective of their actions and the validity of the argument critics have brought forward. When a bunch of people say “this guy is a grifter snake oil salesman” and provide ample occasions of him doing exactly that, at some point, people should admit that the criticism is actually the truth, regardless of their own personal ideology or views. Even if someone agrees with what he says, he does something else contrary to it, so his word, for all practical matters, is worthless. He just uses it as a smokescreen to hide his true beliefs that only his supporters are unable to see.
  21. The guy is getting super desperate now. No one, but rich MAGA billionaires who want to own the libs at any cost will pay 3x what a company is valued at to bail out another billionaire who made a stupid investment decision.
  22. I mean yes, it’s true that people can care for children while also hurting them, that actually happens a lot. Again though it speaks to a lack of consistency from what he says to what he does and hypocrisy for not walking the walk while talking the talk. I don’t consider him evil, not sure how you arrived at that conclusion. What I do think is that he’s self-centered, egotistical, thin-skinned, idiotic, hypocritical, crazy and a jerk. I reserve the characterization of evil for people like Trump and Putin.
