  1. Yup, he's a rough and tumble customer. Who cares who wins the outcome of a hockey fight. They aren't scored and don't mean anything.
  2. WAR Charts - Yup, they're incredibly dumb. You nailed it. They look pretty though.
  3. 4001 I think. Pearson is good value just like Garland is good value. Ok in a vacuum but neither should have been signed. Hopefully we can move some of our surplus wingers. Be interesting to see what Pearson can do but really hard on our cap structure for this season now.
  4. Maybe they find better options maybe they don't. There are a lot of moves yet to be made by teams league wide. Timing is good if some team needs a last second pivot. Worst case he's here for the duration of the year. Myers providing a physical prescience, maybe with Hirose playing 18 min a night on the third pair is where he belongs. Maybe he even provides value in that type of role. I always liked him on Winnipeg when he filled that role behind Bufuglien, and Trouba. In a year Myers and Cole are UFA and we should be hunting for a player to line-up with Quinn.
  5. Who knows. As the offseason progresses there will be some movement and maybe a team opens up a spot for him. Once his bonus is paid he's a low risk, low reward player who is a veteran presence with size. Depends if Allvin is done or not too and whether he would help out a trade by adding assets. If not we just keep him until his contract runs out.
  6. Yeah, our cap problems are going nowhere. I say we just ride it out and try our best to trade a couple wingers. Otherwise we get rid of Dries, and Studnicka, and roll with what we got. Hopefully Myers goes after Sep 15. No rush imo next year is when we should be focused on and hoping to make a push.
  7. I kind of get what you're saying but at the same time I think it works fine except for the odd weird play here or there. I don't really think it would be fair at all that tall guys can head shot (trying to get that out of the game) and small players can't. You can have 7 foot tall guys you just can't hit a player in the head. For a good athlete that's not a problem. For an out of shape tall guy, who may naturally struggle with fitness, it is. Similarly Garland can't go around chop blocking players either just because he's small. Reminds me of a baseball tidbit ... back in the day the strike zone was between the armpits and the knees. They actually started bringing in midgets that used a crunched stance. The strike zone got so small no one could hit it and they would draw walks all game long. Eventually they made short players illegal I believe. https://www.stumptheump.com/answers/height-requirement-in-major-league-baseball With Garland that's obviously one advantage to being small. You're hard to hit but it's certainly not impossible for a good athlete to come in low and with control.
  8. Agree to disagree. The rule book is quite clear. You can't use your height advantage and just hit people in the head because you're tall. In those situations their height is a disadvantage and they have to adjust accordingly or be penalized. It just takes some extra effort and fitness ... which is where Myers quite often fails. But yeah, players should always have their heads up too.
  9. I think it's more on Myers than the refs. As a bigger player he's got to make the commitment and extra effort to get low or square and make a legal hit. It's mostly just laziness and low iq.
  10. He'll probably be playing prime minutes and raise his stock.
  11. I'm glad smart management identified where our needs were and put hockey first before feel good stories. Bear is a good kid and we can circle back if he heals up. I don't think a team with Bear in the starting line-up is a winner so I'm happy with the direction. Bear only gained momentum on a terrible Oilers defence, then rode the pine until we picked him up out of desperation. Times thankfully are a changing.
  12. Yeah I'm with you. Definitely hope he is good enough too. I don't think we need points from our third line as much as we need a match up line. Petey and Miller et al can handle the scoring. Ideally you want a more high profile guy but of course our spending is limited. I don't think we have any more money and Aman is centering the fourth line. I think he's got to be the 3c doesn't he? I guess if we move Myers to SJ as suggested we could maybe add another guy. I don't know I think I like the signing.
  13. I think the guys on the Sportsnet panel were saying he was coming off injury and had a down year. I've liked his game whenever I watched the Penguins. He's been over 50% on draws the last 4 years and takes about 500 draws a year. @SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME says he was performing at a $3-$5 million dollar rating the previous 3 years prior to last. Sid knows his stuff. It's only for one year though like you said and he's so much better than Dries ... adds a bit of pedigree as he is used to playing for a winner. I think that helps as our bottom 6 has so little in terms of experience or pedigree. He's a guy we can build a real 3rd line off of. From good ol google Blueger is also an elite penalty killer. Over the last three NHL seasons he's one of 56 forwards who have logged 300 or more penalty kill minutes. Blueger's goals-against-per-60-minutes at 4v5 ranks fourth in the NHL over that time. I think he's exactly what the doctor ordered despite whatever the funny charts say.
  14. Awesome, it's good we added some size on defence. He can PK too. Between him and Hughes we got the left side covered.
  15. People shuffling their feet, people sleeping in their shoes That's one more kid that will never go to school, never get to fall in love, never get to be cool Great song!
  16. lol, those charts are so funny, Good at face-offs, defensive minded, and a very good PKer. Nice signing, and only for one year. Sweet. I like it. I like it a lot.
  17. Religion is utter crap ... Merica f%#k yeah lol Nice people horrible country.
  18. I guess for me it's the welfare of the team. We're up against the cap and have to make precise moves. We need 2 top 4 D. Our focus should be on that. Not a 26 year old kinda maybe 3rd line guy. If we can fit him in after the important moves sure but this Bear before all that is a good way to cripple the team. He's hurt and the last thing we should be concerned with in my hockey opinion. Anyone else that's not hurt can fill that spot. If after the smoke clears we have the money than sure why not. It's also kind of silly to assume he's going to come back healthy. Why would we take that risk?
