  1. If they are willing to sign one year contracts at 4m a piece, I'd keep them for as long as they continue to produce. They're likely going to be the second line by the end of this season.
  2. Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser Sedin - Sedin - Eriksson Granlund - Gagne - Goldobin Virtanen - Burmistrov - Sutter Gaunce/Rodin Edler - Hutton Del Zotto - Tanev Gudbranson - Stetcher Markstrom Nilsson Gaunce, Goldobin, Virtanen, and Rodin will be fighting for 2 roster spots on the wing. It'll probably shake down to be between Goldobin or Rodin, and Gaunce or Virtanen. I gather management hopes that Rodin brings the goods this fall, but my thinking is he's too far removed from meaningful games to place any sort of expectation. Goldobin has already proven too good for the AHL and I hope he's given a shot to play with skilled players. He's definitely my choice, especially considering Rodin's injury problems. I hope Virtanen comes to camp like a man possessed. They've invested a lot into this kid and this feels like a do or die scenario for him. Between he and Gaunce, Virtanen brings more speed and a good shot while he lacks consistency from shift to shift. Gaunce has proven to be a sound defender, however it remains to be seen if he can put up points at the next level. Boeser will start in the NHL unless he really craps the bed (I.e., spends his summer on the Virtanen diet--sniff sniff). Make no mistake, they've already got his banner printed and ready to hang outside Roger's Arena. The guy will figure into their marketing heavily next season and they won't risk not having him there opening night. This is a franchise desperate for a face-- Horvat is great but lacks swagger. He's stable but not electric. Boeser is the Kane to Horvat's Toews.
  3. Maybe I'm being a homer, but I can definitely see a scenario in which this team makes the playoffs this season. A lot will have to go right for that to happen, but I am heartened by today's transpirings. Sedin - Sedin - Eriksson The Sedins still feel like they have more in the tank. Eriksson can't possibly be as bad as he was last season. Play them less, giving them only O-zone starts. Maybe 13-16 minutes a night and their stats should start trending towards the their career norms. Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser This line should make strides again this year. I think Baertschi will unlock his true potential with a pure finisher in Boeser. Bo will be determined to prove he's a top line centre. I could see him netting 65-70 points this season. Granlund - Gagne - Goldobin I think Granlund is the key piece here. He netted 19 in 60 with a bum wrist playing with Sutter. I think management wants to see what he can do surrounded by skill. Gagne was brought in to produce offence and I doubt they'll anchor him with the likes of Gaunce or Sutter. If Gagne can come close to his last season numbers, this should be a very effective 3rd line. Gaunce - Burmistrov - Virtanen With today's signings, I really think the nixed Demers trade involved Sutter going the other way. I have a feeling that Sutter is gone by October Tanev - Del Zotto Gudbranson - Stetcher Edler - Hutton Wiercoch looks good guys!
  4. Big if true. sedin - sedin - eriksson baertschi - bo - body big boes granlund - gagne - sutter gaunce - burmistrov - goldobin
  5. Love it. Jaybee identified the Powerplay as the major area of weakness and made moves today to fix it. Job's not done, but it's great to see the team moving in the right direction. Well Any direction really.
  6. But is he foundational? love the signing. The guy is a true 3rd line centre who can play up the line up and bolster the PP. we needed this guy last year. Team already looks much better than last year. I hope people get that moves like this actually HELP the rebuild.
  7. Sedin - Sedin - Eriksson Baertschi - Bo - Boeser Granlund - Gagne - Goldobin Gaunce - Sutter - Rodin I'd like to see Rodin used in a sheltered role until he gets his legs under him. Maybe have them run a balanced 4 line attack to compensate for lack of elite talent.
  8. He's missed badly on too many first rounders in the past to have any confidence in this year's crop yet. So far only one pick of Bennings has had any sort of impact in the NHL at all and that situation was bungled so badly from top to bottom that said player ran for the K as quick as he could. Virtanen and McCann are two first round busts plain and simple. He missed clean across the board that year. Juolevi has plateaued in his development and looks to be the third or fourth best defenseman of his draft class. If they did the 2016 draft again tomorrow, there's NO WAY the Canucks take Juolevi at 5 (Even if they want D). Benning's draft hopes now rest on the 2017 draft, Demko, and Boeser. Not a great haul for someone who came in as a great drafting GM and publicly stated he would build the team through the draft. 4 years in and his best piece is still a guy who the last guy drafted.
  9. I'd love to see Yakupov on a 1 yr. contract. Let's see if the kid has chemistry with Goldobin. Maybe even split the Sedins up for a balanced roster. Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser Yakupov - Sedin - Goldobin Sedin - Sutter - Eriksson Granlund - Gaunce - Virtanen
  10. Sedin - Sedin - Eriksson Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser Granlund - Sutter - Goldobin Gaunce - Cramarossa - Virtanen Edler - Stetcher Gudbranson - Hutton Juolevi - Tanev Markstrom
  11. Edler - Tanev Hutton - Gudbranson Stetcher - Franson looks solid and gives OJ time to develop
  12. Someone once said the definition of insanity was hiring the same coach over and over again and expecting to make the playoffs. I hope Green does well here, though it seems like he's being set up to fail. It looks like management wanted to avoid the embarasssment of further rejection and jumped on the horse they knew they could ride. Oh well, maybe Green will be the next Vigneault.
  13. Brent Sopel Guy took a ton of flak while he was here, but he was a consistent 40pt threat from the blue line. Underrated shot that did damage when it wasn't blocked. He also bled Canucks colours.
  14. "Remember when the owner of Club 16 Fitness destroyed the Vancouver Canucks and caused their relocation to Seattle?"
  15. I hope this mess costs Linden his job. He should resign before he does any more damage to his legacy. The man has a gym franchise to consider for god's sake.
