  1. Doing something to make a small difference is awesome to read. We have a lot of rabbits around here, in rural Missouri but the coyotes do an important job to keep their population down. That said, how do ya'll feel about hunting rabbits with beagles. Both are cute. I own both. My beagle and bunny were born and raised at the same time.
  2. At least Bettman is 70 and should retire soon, and has run this gong show since 1993.
  3. Does Cameron Allen have enough skill and size to step into the league as early as the fall?
  4. How does adding another C going to help? Should it be best player available or best defenceman available? Our problem is not our forwards, it is our D. And unless trades are made to diminish our forward depth, our D is killing us right now.
  5. If I am mistaken, I apologize If my memory serves me right, I think you were the biggest KB heartthrob back ten years ago. He is a handsome man and makes my wife's heart beat extra loudly. Just a giiddy school girl.
  6. I think it is the way AM works. They have to turn down the strength of the signal at night as not to interfere with other stations in other markets. Because the AM signal's wave bounces off the ionosphere and can travel thousands of miles away. I left Nanaimo decades ago so I don't remember the station number or name, but overnight you used to be able to listen to a 50,000 watt AM station from Sacramento. It is where I fell in love with the old Art Bell show. Now technology has changed things and a live stream service like iHeartRadio and TuneIn work greatly.
  7. The Government of BC is to blame for part of the housing problems. The province had no incentive to keep home values down because they thoroughly enjoy the tax revenue. As assessments went up, some refinanced and took cash out. This cycle happened again and again. And works so long as they can afford the mortgage payment. Two other problems are corporate landlords and foreign investment capital. The province's assessments and increases make for wise investments. Offer enough money to your old landlord to sell, he sells. The expense of running your apartment/house has now become more and your landlord has to increase the rent. It is a vicious cycle. But none of that can prevent you from choosing how to or where to live.
  8. They cannot afford it because of the lifestyle they choose to live. Own a car or ride the bus? Want an extremely nice apartment with all of the modern amenities instead of an okay apartment. Have gig speed internet and owns a cell phone on the best carrier instead using a pay as you go plan or tweaking your hotspot. Finally, learn how to cook for yourself and save money from eating out all the time. And stop drinking Starbucks everyday when you can brew good coffee at home, easily. Thing is you can still live on your own today, it just depends upon the lifestyle you want to live. And they generally want the lifestyles their parents have and not work for it on their own.
  9. Look, I am a social worker here in Texas. Curious if an investigation happened. So many variables here. An allegation is just an allegation. But families have their secrets. In our day and age we want to support the kids. Sounds like they are functional adults and if this trauma actually happened they are strong. But, I have seen crazy things happen when lots of money is involved. Is this a shakedown? Are they unhappy of being disciplined? Has their mother poisoned their minds? An allegation is just an allegation until it is properly investigated. As for the settlement with his ex-wife, you would think she would have brought forward the allegations then because it would be more advantageous by leveraging the allegations--I have seen this happen several times. Thing is, an investigation needs to happen. If there is no substance here then so be it.
  10. I live in Texas. I used NHL Center Ice for many years. But with the new league agreement with ESPN, we get access to all of the Canucks games with the Canucks feed on ESPN+ for $10 a month. What I did not like about the NHL Center Ice platform was that the streaming rate would drop down to 480p. ESPN+ does not drop the streamrate like that. So when you have gig service, zero lag, 60fps with 4k, it is a beautiful picture.
  11. I apologize. I did not have the chance to read everything on here. Just found your post hilarious.
  12. I hope you were joking. I think this would be kind but I am quite bitter about how he did not live up to the expectations of his last contract. For him, and his agent, it was gravy money. For the Canucks, it hampered our ability to improve our team for enough years until Arizona took him. It is my opinion that we don't owe him anything.
  13. I see your point. But having Burrows wrote the dinner cheque when he got in on it with Auger. That did not help us.
  14. Would make a ton of room open for all of our forwards and let Quinton have a lot of room out there.
  15. Wish Gino Odjick and Donald Brasheer were in their hayday, and Rick Rypien and the Boogeyman were still alive. Any three of those would keep the other teams honest. Oh well, nice to daydream.
  16. They must know something extra about De Haan. Just kidding. I mean he has only played a full 82-gane season once in his long career. Canucks we're hoping that his stats from the last couple of seasons in Chicago was an abberation and not a sign of natural decline.
  17. I doubt he has the same work ethic as Alex Burrows. I watched Burr at a couple of practices in Dallas. Burrows was always the first on the ice and the last off. He always spent an extra thirty minutes after practice to work on his shooting and dekeing skills. His work paid off because he became even better over his playing career.
  18. A side note: When I worked at the Flames in the mid 1990s, on the players and staff side, the meals were fantastic. Lots of the highest grade Canadian beef and chicken. Miss the breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals. It was a bunch of long hours and long days without a day off, but they treated us really good.
  19. Canucks player: Pavel Bure. Reason why I chose him has to do with the old two line pass rule. Many of his rushes were negated by that rule. I believe that with the ability to create extra space today, he could have hit 75-80 goals a season because no one would be able to catch him. Another aspect is this: In his era there were no rules about clutching and grabbing, and tossing someone into the boards vulnerably. In today's NHL, with his advanced puck handling skills and the new protections he could have had a longer career. Lest the local media being the dearth of great Canuck players.
  20. American born players file income taxes in Canada and in the USA. And because they make over the threshold, they get no breaks between both countries. Another tax people may not know. Many US cities have a daily professional athlete/musician tax rate that is paid on the salary earned while in the city. Municipalities tax that way because athletes/musicians gain the benefit of the community infrastructure, facilities and the venues they use. There is also city income tax that must be paid too. It is so complicated that these players and/or their agents have great tax professionals. And this also needs to be said. The player's agent also takes a percentage of the SPC, usually about 5% of salary. Just a lot of people who have their hands in the pockets of the players. But it is not a bad life. Team pays for meals and lodging while on the road. If there is no team meal, the players are paid a sizeable per diem to eat out. So at least they are not starving, unlike the rest of us. Who has gone broke to buy tickets for you and/or your family to go to a game? I mean, there is nothing wrong with eating beans and rice for two weeks straight, eh?
