  1. Lets not kid ourselves or be too hard on this team - we are at best a Wild Card entry and likely quick 1st round exit team. The goal now is just make the damn playoffs :) surrender that 1st rounder for JT and move forward

I always thought this was a borderline playoff team that'd probably just miss out. I definitely think this is a playoff team next year though.

Wouldn't hurt my feeling to just miss out on the playoffs this year yet be competitive for them year round. Also gives us a top 15 pick in a deep first round

    3. Phil_314

      Phil_314

Yeah that wouldn't be the worst, to keep a top-15 pick.  Maybe Toffoli also walks but likes his time here so he signs as a free agent and so we wouldn't give up the 4th either.

Guess the kids just have to chalk one up for learning then.

    4. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

If Toffoli walks he'll get a large offer (as do many UFAs) that we can't compete with.  Being close to LA is a big plus for us.  Not being able to offer him a ton of money is a negative.

  2. OK trying this again C'MON Panthers :D

I wouldn't mind if Ottawa and Chicago won tonight too.

Something is wrong with that Fla team.  They lack compete.  As the games get harder to play, too many of their players hide on the perimeter and fail to engage.  They, by all rights of roster, should destroy the Oilers, but they are getting destroyed.

    3. Alflives

      Alflives

Oilers with the run away, and kind of, easy win.  If a team plays the top players on Fla hard, they disappear.

Fun fact: Wayne Gretzky is the NHL all-time leader in empty net goals with 56.  Pavel Bure is tied with Trottier for 7th with 28.

Please keep going Loui.  Don't care even if it's a 7th round pick or even future considerations.

Just keep upping that trade value.

We'd joke on CDC after a win, folks were planning the Cup parade.

But in Edmonton, they were literally doing this after their start.....

Totally agree - watching them live in Edmonton on Wednesday I was really impressed with their play. Definitely looking a lot more promising depth wise than last year.

  14. I heard a comedian once say this about Canuck fans if we won the Stanley cup - "So what we will just lose it next year"

Pretty much sums up the mentality of some on here :frantic:

  15. LMAO at Sportsnet bragging about Dubas's cap wizardry - yippee he made enough space for Marner - what about next year when he has 18 million to sign basically an entire defensive core lol

Cici and Kerfoot arbitration will award 9 million for the two.  Leafs might have to walk from both guys.  I really think a team should offer sheet Marner at 11 million times 7 years.  Islanders should do it.  Come on Lou!  Stick the knife into your old boss and twist.  You’ll like it, and so will we all!

    3. Jimmy McGill

      Jimmy McGill

Buffalo should offer sheet Marner. They have 40+ mil in cap space after this season and can easily lock up their RFAs by then too.

    4. Alflives

      Alflives

      @Jimmy McGill

thats a great idea!  Buffalo is close to home for Marner too.  Love to see this happen.

  16. Lol at the Oilers - TSN 1260 here talking about how we overpaid on Myers and how Holland has to be cautious and fans need to be patient as it will take him about 3 years to make them competitive - Rebuild 3.0?

      Solinar

Is Myers overpaid, certainly.  And We probably overpaid Benn a bit too, but when all is said and done, on paper, we've kind of insulated Hughes with better options than we had at the end of last season.  We added qualities to our backend that we were lacking last year, and hopefully the sum of all those moving parts will be greater than the individuals.

Can't stand McGuire either. When it was suggested by someone else on the panel, that Quinn Hughes will improve the PP this coming season, he basically gave a "pfft", saying we don't know that. VAN never seems to get the same treatment or respect from the media. Seeing Panarin sign for $11.3 or whatever in NY, I hope another team offer sheets Marner $13.

  17. When is Panarin meeting with Benning?  Wasn't he hinting at Vancouver on Instagram :emot-parrot: (Sarcasm intended)

Hearing numbers as high as 12 million long term which is beyond ridiculous for an undersized guy who is a PPG. He isn't a 50 goal scorer or 100+ points. Anything 10 or more should be reserved for the most elite. He is not.

Canucks really don't have many trade chips unless they're giving up Horvat, Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes, Demko, or next years first.

Unless he lands the Canucks a top 4 D today, I’m really going to wonder why he couldn’t make a better offer for Subban than New Jersey did.

      Heretic

      Final? What final?  :)

I wasn't interested once the final 2 teams were set - but specially after how long they waited to play the 1st game.

Besides - NHL has already given the Bruins the cup, doesn't matter what they do, punching people in the back of the head, hitting goalies, skating more than 20 feet to hit someone - no suspensions - but make sure the other team loses players.

    4. Chip Kelly

      Chip Kelly

Yes absolutely, I haven't watched a full game since round 2.

Every team left was one I either didn't like or had an ambivalence towards.

The NBA playoffs and especially the Raptors run has been mesmerizing...

      i dunno

i think you likely overstate the volume of stock in alf's scotch cabinet

i kinda suspect there might be a sole bottle

      that gets replaced regularly

and he has already told us the "scotch cabinet" is located

They haven't won a damn thing, and yet you would think the were always going to be the cup winner so much media and general hype OVER NOTHING.
