I like Bruce and am divided

If they don't want him then let him go (I understand they didn't hire him and may not like the way they see things, maybe too relaxed in the room after losing)

Maybe they want to bring a new guy in as for the team not to struggle with new changes at the beginning of the next season (like the last 2 years have)

I prefer to keep Bruce and let the Canucks (free fall if they are going too) and expose the character of players as they finish off the year

@Bell Aquilini should apologize by selling. 

Mixed feelings. He's a dead man walking, he knows that. He knows he isn't coming back. Letting him go would be a mercy to some extent.

At the same time bringing in another coach at this point won't do anything, if anything it might hurt our sinking to the bottom, which is what we should be doing at this point. Plus, there should be more head coach candidates later on, we've yet to see a coach fired this season. I'd rather us take a more thorough approach to finding a head coach. 

I've no issue with letting Bruce ride out the season though, but management would need to come out and state that they're doing just that. There would need to be transparency on that front.

I’m just looking forward to seeing them beat the living piss out of each other and then have Colorado or St. Louis swiftly eliminate either in round 3.

I'm actually rooting for Edmonton, mostly because I'm hoping to see legends like McDavid create a playoff legacy instead of always losing in round one or two. That said, I also don't like either team that much and am moreso just interested in intense playoff hockey.

I hope we tank HARD next season. 2023 draft is DEEP. Trade Boeser, Miller, Horvat (assuming he doesnt want an extension), Garland for 2023 1st round picks + more. 

If any stupid team is willing to overpay for Hoglander Im fine with that too.

So was this team constructed to be better for this year only and with more let downs after we again would have lost people for nothing (especially if we had made the playoffs and old guard still in place)? Just up and groggy still wondering what the past plan would have been?

Bruce is all about changing behaviour, and a long-time strategy for behaviourists wanting to change behaviour is to give the subject short term, attainable goals with high feedback and accentuation of the positives. Nobody ever got better being told how bad they were. Bruce is one example of how experience and wisdom trumps youthful exuberance and impulsiveness. He seems to have all the answers because he's seen all of this before and knows the plot, the dialogue and the steps needed to pull out of this season-long slump.

I suppose the best case would be goal-scoring and defense, but McDavid is an underrated goal scorer. Matthews does have strong defense though. That said, I think McDavid's overall offensive game is leagues better.

Bouchard is absolute garbage in his own zone.  Nowhere close to an NHLer, and likely never will be.  He's soft, slow, and stupid.

This is normal for them, Every preseason they pretty much go undefeated after dressing the whole roster every game, And follow it up with a solid regular season. Annnnd then they get destroyed in the 1st round because its easy to shut down two guys without any depth 

Outside of their surprise 2017 2nd round appearance + a couple of upsets in the late 90's + a 2006 cup run, the Edmonton Oilers have largely been irrelevant to the sport of hockey since 1992.  

The city as a whole is almost irrelevant outside of Western Canada.   

Most self-respecting men, women, and hockey players only choose to live and work in Edmonton because the jobs they seek usually aren't available in other cities.  That, or they have close family ties to Edmonton.  You take away the Oilers, CFL Elk, their oil industry, and West Edmonton mall, and the city of Edmonton becomes a sub-standard city in almost every single aspect.

If I was an Edmontonian, or a media member of Edmonton, I would keep my mouth shut, learn a bit of humility, and learn not to count my chickens before they've hatched.
