  1. CDCGML 2017-18

We're thrilled to get Brett under contract for the foreseeable future. One of the main returns from the Brent Burns trade, we really like what Pesce can offer. We expect him and Shea Theodore to form a top-4 pairing for the next half-decade and think that they have potential to be a solid two-way pair that can grow with the rest of our young team. The Habs still have plenty of RFA work to do, with Max Domi, Matt Nieto, JT Compher, Ville Husso and Steve Santini still needing contracts. They will be qualified though, and longer-term contracts will also be offered. However, it is expected that Richard Bachman and Adam Tambellini will not be offered qualifying offers and will become free agents on July 1st, joining pending UFA's Zach Redmond and Clayton Stoner.

Rob Thomas with a "smooth" deflection for the opening goal of the Memorial Cup!

The Habs are getting some interest in the 25th pick. We'd consider moving down to accumulate some other picks, but we might also consider moving it to "go for it" next year by picking up some roster help. Inquirie within (Discord is easiest but PM also works).

For those teams looking to add picks, I'd also consider moving one of these 2nd's for a young player, ideally still on their ELC or under the age of 23.

Arizona has 3 picks in the 2nd round (34, 45 and 54). Would consider packaging two of those picks to get another pick in the 1st round.

Looking for the homerun with the Boqvist pick. We’re willing to wait for him to develop and understand he may need some time, but we feel very comfortable that adding such a dynamic d-man to our system will pay dividends in the long run. Hard to pass up on the two forwards remaining from that tier, but the pickup of Robert Thomas yesterday will hopefully help in that regard. Welcome to Arizona, Adam!
  7. With the 5th overall selection, the Arizona Coyotes are pleased to select, from Byrnas of the Swedish-J20 league... Defenceman Adam Boqvist!

Sorry gang, had plenty of action in the DM's about the 5th pick. Not sure anything has come of them yet. Will make a decision shortly.
  9. CDC Fantasy League 2017-18

The Coyotes are torn about who to pick at #5. We may be willing to trade down a few spots to make our decisions easier...

I say open it up and get started. For those in multiple leagues, it's nice to spread the drafts out instead of hammering them all at the same time. IMO.

Thanks to @Monty for the quality trade talks that have been going on for a while. We were content to head into the draft with picks 5 and 9, but when Robert Thomas’ name came up it certainly peaked my interest. He’s rocketed up some lists since last years draft, and the kid just won the OHL Playoff MVP award. He’ll certainly give us another reason to watch the Memorial Cup, especially when he plays Glenn Gawdin and Georgio Estephan. We have visions of him and Martin Necas solidifying our lineup up the middle for the next decade. Holding onto the 5th pick certainly this trade easier to make. But moving it now after this deal? You can forget about it...

Rumour: Arizona has apparently moved out one of their top-10 picks in the upcoming draft...

I'm new to the league, as I came in just before trade deadline this year and finished 3rd last, so my opinion on the league doesn't and shouldn't have much weight yet. But when I took the job I knew that the Coyotes were asset-poor, and I don't see us being a threat any time soon. In fact, next year we'll be paying Zetterberg and Mike Smith over $4m to play somewhere else (which was already on the books when I arrived). It would have been nearly impossible for us to have iced a full-NHL lineup without mortgaging some picks and our future a bit, which would have kept us in the basement for the long-term. The waiver-wire has been our friend and could continue to be for a while lol. Teams tank in real life, so it's a viable strategy. It's not something we plan on doing, as we actually moved out of the 2nd-last spot down the stretch. But I can pretty much guarantee that we'll be bottom-10 next year, and perhaps dead-last if injuries happen. But it won't be for a lack of trying to get better. And hopefully in two years from today we'll be coming off of a playoff run or still in the middle of one.
