I live in Calgary (at least for the next two months) and things are insane here too. Housing has been so hot the past couple of months.

I became debt-free (not including my mortgage) in September. Talk about great timing!

Anyway, I'm selling my house and most of my possessions and moving to Abu Dhabi for at least two years. I figure I'll ride things out there until Canada calms the hell down and then maybe I'll move back.

Atleast gas is still at 1.39 here and no PST sure helps

Mogilny had one great year and then didn't do much after that.  Mike Peca became a Selke trophy winner and consistent top 3 best defensive player in the NHL.  As for 1982, that was one run to the finals.  Tiger didn't do much after that and Vaive and Derlago were lights out with Toronto.  Vaive became a 3 time 50 goal scorer.

Mogilny was still close to a point a game with his time in Vancouver and then was traded for Brendan Morrison. Although the combo of Bure/Mogilny never materialized because of Bure's injury and then I remember hearing that Messier complained about having to center those 2 because they would only look for each other on the ice , I would still do that trade over again.

  3. Go to the morning practices on non game days. Players will usually stop and sign for people. When the canucks came to calgary, i brought my kids down and every players stopped and signed there jersey and took a picture. Boeser was kind enough to hand his stick to my kids as well

Another reason why Brock is my favourite Canuck off the ice.

I took my son and daughter down to the practice in Calgary the other week. Boeser walked off the ice and straight up to my son and handed him his stick. He went and got changed then came out and signed the stick, our jerseys and took a picture with them. Super nice guy....

Anyone want to argue vaccines don't have an effect?

China has 90% of there population vaccinated with a vaccine that has been approved by the WHO. They also have had some of the strictest lock downs. In the last 2 weeks there have been 7 deaths due to covid. What this twitter post also decided not to mention is that there is no confirmation that the hospitals are getting full from covid patients nor are the crematoriums getting packed from covid death patients.

You're doing what I did unintentionally in my initial post by including partially vaccinated in your unvaccinated numbers? Here's the numbers no one can argue with I think.

hospitalized        unvaccinated 26.6%  partially vaccinated   5.3%      fully vaccinated 68.1%

    population                                 16.9%                                   5.6%                                77.5%

The biggest issue i have with numbers and percentages is they dont tell the full story. Weve now seen many health leaders from Canada and internationally start to admit the hospital numbers are inflated. Jake Tapper from CNN was just talking about this as well wondering why we havent had more transparency.  Here in Alberta, after the government got caught lying about a 4 year old boy who died from stage 4 cancer ( blamed on covid ) they were pressured to release more details and numbers. 77% of all covid deaths came from people who were suffering from 3 or more major complications ( stage 4 cancer, dementia, etc ). Not to diminish anyone's life but realistically these were people who were probably near the end. I believe it was 85 % were older than 68 ( again, both of my parents are in there 70's so im not downplaying the importance of elderly ) but It turned out that only 4% of all covid deaths were from your average regular Joe. This is on average with what normal flu death rates are.  I know the CDC mentioned they will start to release those stats but rumor has it that its close to 75% of the covid deaths will have had other major factors. I wish we had more transparency on these ICU cases especially when they throw around unvaxxed numbers. Are they your 20-40 year who is out protesting or are they elderly people who are alone/scared or unable to get the vaccine ?

Serious question here.  And yes I know I shouldn't be asking a forum

2 weeks ago my daughter (10) got sick at school on the weekend.  The following week she passed it to my wife, then me.  Winter Break started and I was absolutely wiped the hell out from Weds through Sun.  Didn't leave my house or room.  kept everyone locked down hard after my daughter got sick.  We're all vaxxed etc.

But there was a cold/flu kicking about in our area and zero recorded school outbreaks between either of my daughter's schools in the weeks before she got sick.

Since then I have been struggling for energy and the last 48 hours I have experienced somehting I've never dealt with before.  Dizziness.  Like lightheaded dizziness.  I filled up my gas tank today, pulled out on to the street and immediately had ot pull over after doing a shoulder check because i had the spins.  I knelt down to grab something yesterday and almost blacked out from it.

If in fact I did have a case of covid, how would I know?  Can I still get tested post infection?  I have been reading up on or about long term effects and post covid infection issues and I actually seem to have a few including the dizziness lethargy headaches and beat up sinus 2 weeks on but what options would or do I have to find out if in fact I DID have it.

Before anyone asks, after my daughter got sick as it was the start or essential start of winter break we kept our kids home, we didn't go anywhere or do anything serious until we all felt better.  Always mask, always sanitize etc.  Just curious if there's any way to find out IF I/we had it and what our options are in an overwhelmed system in dealing with any potential long term issues

Check if you have a company in your city that can do these kind of tests.... they can tell the difference of antibody's between the vaccine and having caught it.

we did. We saw that they recommended Pfizer instead.

Yep.... and i should mention that my post and the point of the petition isnt to condemn vaccinations.   But why did they not find these results ( moderna heart issues ) in the clinical trials if they had been extensively studied and tested on ?

  9. 10 hours ago, thedestroyerofworlds said:

Nowhere in that online petition is vaccines mentioned.   Furthermore, it reads like something a quack who was pushing hydroxychloroquine and is pushing ivermectin would write.  Real scientists and health care professionals will look to actual clinical trials before recommending a treatment.   It's only in the clinical trials that someone would get an unproven treatment as a trial participant.   The vaccines had clinical trials and have been approved.   There are treatments like the TRUMP cocktail drugs that have been approved.  If the clinical trial for ivermectin shows it works, then great.

    Also, some online petition.  Lol.

11,000 quacks ?   Also this was part of the Rome summit which was a huge get together to discuss covid.  But this is part of the problem, as soon as anyone ( and in this case actual medical professionals ) comes forward they quickly get dismissed by people like you as quacks .  Did you see recently that Moderna has been recommended not to be used by people aged 24 and under because of possible heart complications ?  Many parts of Europe and Ontario as well. Why is that ?  If there had been rigorous clinical trials then wouldnt this have been known ? The fact is that these are still going through the clinical process and its been admitted that long term affects are not known.

Not sure what Trump has to do with this or why you would even mention him ?

why do people keep feeding into the posters who try to denounce Covid and or the vaccines/restrictions etc when they have ZERO Legit proof!?!?

Stop acknowledging them and they should likely disappear as they aren't getting their fix anymore...no!?!?

Covid is here to stay and for a while it seems...the longer it is around the higher chance EVERYONE has of contracting it and possibly getting real sick from it or heaven forbid DIE from it!

    https://doctorsandscientistsdeclaration.org/

Over 11,000 doctors/ scientists have come forward to speak out against some of the policies and methods of the vaccines/ restrictions.  I think the most worrisome thing is that these doctors are being threatened with there jobs if they speak out against the mandates. Thats not how science and medicine are supposed to work. There should always be open channels for discussion

Regardless, we have vaccines now that will almost certainly keep people out of the hospital.  The only reason why we have these restive measure now is the selfish antivaxxer freedumb fighters.  These whining cry babies (because that honestly how they are behaving) are now the pandemic.  I guess, though, they are too stupid to understand if they were vaccinated there would be no need for vaccine passports.

As you can tell from the tone of a lot of posts in this thread, there are a great many people (84% recently polled in BC) who are fed up with these antivaxxer dough heads.

Even if we get to 100% it wont keep people out of the hospital. This delta variant seems to be very powerful and the numbers in Israel are proving that. The talk now is that 3rd booster shots are going to be needed. There is no argument that the hospitals wont have nearly as many extreme cases but why are people letting the government off the hook for mishandling this ?  There should be equal if not more anger towards the government for still allowing people into the country until things in the world have settled down. This virus seems to be mutating and becoming more powerful each time. Whats next after the delta variant ? And where will it come from ?

  12. 27 minutes ago, NUCKER67 said:

My take - restrictions suck, masks suck, isolating sucks - but none of this would be happening if those anti-vaxxers got the shot. The more they whine and cry, the longer this goes on. Bunch of babies.

Actually none of this would be happening if the government would have stepped up and did there job during the pandemic and closed our borders.  There may be an argument when it first hit the world that it was a tough call to closeeverything down but almost 2 years into it and we still have people flooding into our country. How did the Brazilian strain get here ?  How did the delta strain get here ?

Careful with what you conclude from that data.  Put it this way, if 100% of the population was double vaccinated, what % of positive cases would you expect to see from those that are double vaccinated?

Data can be manipulated for anyone's benefit so I always try taking things into context, however there have been stories of cruise ships or concerts that only allowed fully vaxxed people yet still had outbreaks.  So to answer your question I dont know how many Id expect to see and i dont think anyone could predict it correctly because everytime we think we have a solution or answer to covid, we are getting surprised. As I mentioned in my previous post, shutting down for 2 weeks was supposed to be the answer but it turned into over a year , 70% vaxxed was supposed to be an answer but now we are needing 90% and now possibly booster shots every 6 months.

I know you weren't and that wasn't the intent of my reply.  If 87% of the population is fully vaxxed, it stands to reason that the majority of cases will be breakthrough cases, right?

Cant really find anything to confirm or deny they are breakthrough cases. This website seems to imply it has more to do with the delta variant .

    https://qz.com/2044284/icelands-rising-covid-19-cases-demonstrate-vaccine-efficacy/

Admittingly i dont know much about that website but they do talk about the positives of the vaccine limiting the amount of severe cases so I dont think its an anti- vax site

I give up.  Go back 10 pages and read the science.  It’s been posted numerous times here already.  Then go get vaccinated.

That quote i gave you is from the minster of health from Iceland, there is nothing anti science about those numbers. My post isnt saying not to get vaccinated, its showing you that there is obviously more to this than just blaming the unvaccinated people for this current outbreak. Its not an opinion, its reality to what is happening in Iceland

    How many people in Iceland?

    370k

My post wasnt encouraging people to not get vaccinated but showing that its not as simple as just blaming them for the current spread.  At the start we were told 2 week shutdown to stop the spread, it ended up lasting over a year and its starting to repeat itself all over . Then we were told masks arent affective, then it became mandatory to use them. We were then told we could re open up when 70% of the population became vaccinated, clearly that isnt working as well. The post i made about Iceland shows that even a population of 85% vaccinated, it is still spreading like crazy.  So far , the experts have been getting it wrong at every step. And while this is unknown waters and i dont want to criticize too hardly on them its becoming clear that we have to stop doing things half way. The first step is to close down Canada's borders. When there are exceptions to people coming in then its mandatory 2 week isolation. This hasnt been happening. There have been many examples that people werent forced to isolate. The only reason why we are even dealing with this delta variant is because we let it through the borders.

We will be at 90% of all eligible people getting vaccinated (school ages kids too) by November.  With vaccine passports, and more people getting vaccinated we will see a serious drop in hospitalization.  This is now a pandemic of the non vaccinated.

Its not that cut and dry to just blame the unvaccinated.  Iceland is 83% double vaccinated and they are going through a major covid outbreak. Out of 87 positive cases, 71 were from people who were double vaccinated, 14 from unvaccinated and 2 were partially vaccinated.

“In Iceland, 85.3% of people over 16 years old are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 4.9% are partially vaccinated. It should therefore not come as a surprise that among new domestic cases, most are vaccinated. Since 9 July, 77% of domestic infections were among vaccinated individuals,” Ásthildur Knútsdóttir, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Iceland told Reuters via email.

  18. Ran into a couple from El Salvador who were in Nelson on vacation. I asked them how hard it was to get into Canada right now and they said it was no problem. So here we are again on the rise of a 4th wave and new variants popping up and our government still refuses to close our border down. They were slow to close it down the first time ( and even then there were still daily flights landing from China ) , they opened up too quickly which is why the Delta variant is here and now again we are letting anyone in to the country for vacations.  There is so much anger and hatred against people who dont want the vaccine yet next to none towards our current government for even allowing this situation to get this bad in the first place. And sadly the same government has a good chance of getting a majority because he called an election and noone wants to hold them accountable.

Im alot more angry at the government who has the power and ability to put Canadians health first but dont then i am at an individual who is questioning whether to get the vax or not.

Almost, means almost! Yes there were a few that did take Christmas vacations to those places mentioned. I believe in BC, a couple of Civic politicians did just that. Alberta, a few cabinet ministers left their Province, and I'm sure there were others across Canada. Everyone praised Trump for cutting flights from China etc., but somehow they found a route through Britain or the EU to get to America. Brazil as well. I agree, closing flights in hindsight should have happened, but this is the deck we've been dealt. But, hells bells if they don't allow us to head off to the Interior or the Island for a getaway. I don't think Government or Health Officials should have to hold peoples hands if they aren't going to listen anyway. Which seems to be the issue with people.

At some point in time there will have to be an honest discussion about how the government has handled this, but im not sure that will ever happen. Every issue turns into a right vs left fight and nothing will ever get resolved. There can be a good debate last year as to whether the government acted too slow to close our borders and that is a hindsight argument but I wouldnt agree with you if we are talking about the new variants. As soon as word got out that there were new variants then our borders should have been closed again. There were no surprises at how dangerous this was. No flights in or out. At very least any flights in from Canadian citizens should have a mandatory 2 week isolation at a local hotel, not this 3 night stay and then released to hope the person honors the remaining 1.5 weeks at home. The government will never be able to control the will of free people but the few things they can do, they need to do it and closing the border down was one of them.

As to your other point about people not listening, have they ever ?  People know smoking causes cancer yet they do it anyway, they know unprotective sex can cause STD's or unwanted pregnancies yet its still rampant, drinking and driving, drugs, etc etc .
