Did anybody here go the Burning Man this year? I didn't, but the mud reminded me of prairie gumbo that accretes to your boots with every step until your feet weigh five times more than usual. Today I learned that tickets were US$575. Imagine that.

@Citizen Erased I saw a heck of a lot of RV's and SUV's. Don't think I saw one single Prius. Not even a RAV4 hybrid. But that's just showing the exodus today. Can you recharge a HUMMER electric at the festival?

Lahaina Relief? Anybody out there know where I can donate and be sure the money is actually going to the on-the-ground relief efforts? There are dozens listed from a simple Google search but I don't know which ones are the most reliable. Please and thank you.

Hockeyfeed (don't know how reliable a source this is) is reporting that Rogers wants to cut costs next season and that Ron McLean may be out. Be still my beating heart. Now if only they canned Simpson and Galley, my perfect circle of happiness would be complete.
-
Daily Hive reporting Ray Ferraro in the mix to be John Garrett's replacement. I would totally support that. It is important to have someone in the position who played the game at the NHL level and Ferraro is always worth a listen on the talk shows. He works between the benches so I wonder if he would do that with Shorty in the booth, or if he'd be in the booth with Shorty.

Dallas has won three games in Round 2. Joe Pavelski has scored the GWG in each win. He'll be 39 in July and is signed for one more year. Joe has 1001 points in 1250 games and this season put up 77 points in a full 82 games. Guy's a freak of nature,

Dude is truly an anomaly if you look at how consistent he's in terms of production over the course of his career. Players rarely age this well. Dude is the model of consistency, he's put up top six level production almost his entire career.
He hasn't had the highs of some other players but man has he been consistent.

What's the over/under on some NHL team snagging Jeremy Colliton this summer?
-
He looked out of his element in Chicago, but did a marvelous job in Abby with the Canucks. I wonder if having the twins out there, as well as Samuelsson, Higgins, and Johnson lacing them up has done wonders for this organization. I'm sure Canuck brass wouldn't hold him back if a job opportunity called his name.

Watching Calgary at Winnipeg. I forgot how good hockey is when the games actually mean something.
-
Just for fun, calculated the number of days between the day he was drafted and the day Guillaume Brisebois scored his first NHL goal. 2817 days, or seven years, eight months and 15 days. Persistence, thy name is Guillaume.

Sixty years ago today my dad took me to my first ever hockey game, a Western League game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Stampeders. The Canucks won 3-1 in the old PNE Forum, which was an ancient, rat-infested building even then. Vancouver's goalie was a 20 year-old named Gilles Villemure, who played all 70 games without a mask. I don't think they even had a backup goalie on the roster. The big scorer was 5'7", 150 pound winger named Buddy Boone. Boone was one of about five guys in the whole league who had mastered this new thing called a slapshot. Old school coaches were not at all receptive to slapshots. I was thrilled to see my first ever live game and it has remained one of my fondest memories. I lost my dad just over a year ago and wish he was here to remember that first game we spent together.

bathgate and popein, both lived in our old neighbourhood mudge. do you remember the old blue bird motel? they stayed there until they went up to the rangers. there was a small rink in the form at one end of the building. we use to put in a dollar each in and another community would do the same and we'ld play hockey. the old forum had a lot of posts that would block sight to parts of the ice.
apparently connie madigan is still alive. use to hate him.
-
Yes, I remember the Bluebird Motel, and I remember watching Andy Bathgate in pre-game warmups in the old Forum. He could pick a top corner form anywhere inside the blue line with a wrist shot. I couldn't believe that one of the best NHL players of his generation would end up playing for Vancouver. I was a big fan of Phil Maloney and Billy McNeill. I still have programs from that era with autographs of various players.
-
i always wondered what ever happened to billy dea?
he went up to the rangers, played a couple of games and then nothing. bathgate and popein played baseball at collingwood park. the tennis courts are gone now and the row of big trees that ran along on side of the courts. if they ever wrote a history of that park, they would have to write one chapter about us tom's boys, after tommy mah. that's my whole youth.
-
I may have mentioned this before, but you could do worse than signing Troy Stecher as a FA. If Calgary misses the playoffs, I'd expect Treliving to be fired, and the new guy would probably clean house.
-
the only trouble there mudge, is that we already have a lot of third pair guys. imo, bear is the perfect 3rd pair rd. he will probably be played higher in the line-up out of necessity. we really need a 2nd pairing, left and right d-men. i was hoping for pettersson to play 2nd pair ld. looks like hughes and hronek will be our top pairing. after that we are still in JB country.

Getting really sick of all the media talking heads falling all over each other criticizing EVERYTHING the Canucks are doing. Give us a trade! We hate the trade! Management is stupid! They are doing everything exactly the wrong way! They should be doing this! They should be doing that! We are way smarter than the guys who have been doing this all their adult lives! We want the team to keep losing so they can get more draft picks! We want the team to win so free agents will want to come here! All I know is that the next time ANY of them say anything positive, it will be the first time.
-
November will be a challenge. 13 games left this month and the Canucks could realistically lose 12 of them. If they lose the next five or six, Bruce there he was.

Does anybody know where the Russians are? I think I read that Mikheyev is in North America, but I'm not sure about Podkolzin, Kuzmenko or (Belorussian) Klimovich. I read somewhere that Kiril Kaprizov had a difficult time getting to North America this past week and am wondering if Vancouver's players are able to get to Vancouver.
-
Dan Milstein on Donny and Dhali: "I look forward to talking with you after the free agency". Hmmm. He represents UFAs Mikheyev, Zadorov, Namestnikov as well as Kuzmenko and Klimovich. Are one of the UFAs interested in Vancouver?

Fun fact: Markstrom has allowed 15 goals in less than three games. Not only that, but he looks to be badly in need of an Ian Clark, since he is spending way too much time on his knees, too deep in the crease.

Glad to see that Tyler Motte is getting such positive reviews in New York. Good, honest player who brings it every game. Hope he signs for what he's worth, which is more than the minimum.
-
Oddity: Last year Carolina won their first two games in the playoffs, with GWG by Niederreiter and Aho. This year they won their first two games, with GWG by Neiderreiter and Aho.

Just watched Tyler Johnson score in the 7th round of the shootout to officially end Vegas' playoff hopes. Now, with a team in cap hell, it will be interesting to see how ownership reacts. Vegas don't tolerate no losers.

Saw Carlos Santana in Abbotsford Thursday night. Played for 2.5 hours. Pure magic. He and his band are playing Saturday, April 2 in Penticton if anyone is interested. And yes, it's a boomer thing.

Vegas Trade Issue - Apparently Dadynov has a valid 10-team no trade list and doesn't want to go to Anaheim. The NHL now has to sort it out. And here I thought Kesler was going to come out of retirement to play in Vegas....

This just in: Toronto has declared a day of National Mourning over the tragic suspension of Auston Matthews who insists he was aiming for Dahlin's shoulder and it isn't fair because Brad Marchand. Please observe a moment of silence for all his misunderstood intentions, and wear your rubber boots to keep your feet dry from the rivers of Leaf fans' tears.

When fandom becomes lethal: Estimates of at least 17 dead and dozens more injured in the Mexican city of Queretaro. Playing against Atlas of Guadalajara, Queretaro hooligans attacked Atlas fans with various weapons, some even kicking helpless victims to death. Two things: 1) The police and security did nothing to stop the violence, and 2) the State government of Queretaro denies anybody died. Evidently they don't know that everybody with a cell phone has captured the images of barbarism.

Anybody know how to contact Google to tell them to turn off Ukraine n Google Maps? Apple has already done this with their map app. Seems like a good thing to do to take away a resource from the invading forces.

Trump defender, and man who resembles a slimy waiter from some middle-European country, Mike Lindell thought he would show solidarity with the Ottawoccupiers with 10,000 pillows and an unknown number of bibles. He was turned back at the Canadian border. He wasn't vaccinated. I think he took his truckload of pillows and went home.
-
Update: Lindell now plans to airlift his pillows and drop them using little parachutes. He's not saying where or when he's doing this. It seems he sure wants to turn the Ottawoccupation into a giant pillow fight. From a guy who runs a free speech network, but bans anyone who takes the Lord's name in vain, we should expect no less from this dingbat.

Has anyone seen the Crosby highlights from Friday night? As long as Crosby is in the game, he is simply the best player in hockey. Yes, I'm talking to you, Connor.
