Everyone will have to get their Canucks fix on Social Media, Social Media generates dollars. This place doesn’t.
How will the Canucks monetize that social media? Who is going to pay them for information, data and opinion that is freely available everywhere? They can pound sand as far as I am concerned.

Let it go. Why would you want the guys who killed CDC to be involved in the new forum? Don't you get it that the new forum is now free from being pressured or influenced or monitored or suppressed by ownership/management? The new forum will prove to be as good or better than CDC. Embrace the change.

Ugh another pick wasted to clear a bad contract. Unfortunate as he probably has value at the trade deadline with his reputation and being in the last year of his deal.
So to keep Pearson, who would you have moved to get under the cap? I'll wait.

In the recorded history of the world, whenever authorities have sought to silence dissent, the dissenters simply found another, more untouchable alternative that would likely be even more extreme and more critical, only without ownership's muzzle. I've already signed on to the new forum and encourage everyone who believes in the exchange of information, the expressions of opinion and lively debates to sign up, too. There used to be a lot more trollers and contrarian posters on CDC, but over the years this forum has grown up a lot from what it used to be. I am hopeful that the new forum will continue to provide what we all value so much, and that is to be part of a community of shared fanaticism in all things Canucks. I look forward with hope that the all the regular posters make the move.
In the meantime: I think folks here are struggling with the stages of grief: denial, anger, depression, bargaining and, finally acceptance. It sounds like this:
I can't believe they'd do this. This can't be true.
I am so mad that I will never watch a Canucks game again. I want to harm somebody.
I am immobilized and can't get off the couch. what am I going to do for the four hours a day I spent on the forums?
If we try hard, maybe we can persuade them to change their minds. If we lay out our case, surely they'll change.
I understand the decision is final there is nothing I can do but move on and not look back. A-holes gonna a-hole.

I grow and pickle my own jalapenos. Much cheaper, and more satisfying than buying a jar of em.
Excellent. I don't have enough room to grow enough Jalapeños to make it worthwhile pickling them, but I bought six pounds a couple of years ago and pickled them and you are right, they are better than anything commercially processed. I do grow tomatoes in containers and have usually made and canned ripe tomato salsa, and one time peach and tomato which turned out pretty good. This year I had an abundance of green tomatoes so I made and canned green tomato salsa verde. Five pounds of green tomatoes (plus onions, red bell pepper, garlic and cilantro) made six 500ml jars. Nice late summer project.

I take this to mean get ready for dump and chase, clog the middle boring hockey.
If that's a winning formula, then I'm all in. Tired of losing out year after year. And what is more boring, playing a tight defensive game and winning or playing a wide open Boudreau style that bleeds goals and piles up losses? I'll take tight defence and let whatever happens happen because what they've been doing for the last 12 years clearly hasn't worked.

I think 1.5 mill myers can replace 6 mil myers next year.
What does this even mean? His cap hit for the entire 23/24 season is $6 million. His salary is irrelevant, it's the cap hit that is the killer.
-
I don't see anything unusual in Pettersson's approach to negotiating a new contract. A possible eight year deal takes him through his most productive years and he wants to makes sure he is adequately compensated for carrying the team to the best years of their franchise life. That's the ideal. So far he has had two good seasons and a great season but wants to show next year he can do even better. By then we will know how much more the salary cap will be and what would be a fair chunk for Petey. I am pretty sure it's going to start with a 12 or 13.

Now THAT was hockey! I wonder how many games Bure would get if the tried that today.
Four or five. Maybe the most flagrant headshot ever. I know Scott Stevens delivered some brutal hits, but Bure went headhunting and put everything he had into that elbow. It's a shame that Churla was never the same after that.
-
For those who never saw Bure play, you need to know that in the entire Canucks' history, there has never been anyone who could generate the pure excitement he brought. He was a one of a kind talent who remains the most talented offensive weapon ever to wear a Vancouver uniform. And, it must be remembered, Bure played in the hook, hold and slash era before the league cracked down on interference, stick fouls, hooking and holding, which makes Bure's accomplishments that much more impressive. Kuzmenko is very, very good, but not in Bure's league.

This is the true story of five brawling hockey players, who live in the back of a hockey arena and fight their way to heroic status in the most violent league in the world. One by one our heroes begin to crumble against their worst foes - themselves. Les Chiefs is a real-life account of men fighting to remain boys.
Yes, I have seen it. Really good look into the lives of guys who never made the big time but can't stop playing. The league still exists but the penalty minutes are far less than it was when this film was made. Back then, it was a circus complete with animal acts and dancing bears.

Seems to me that Dumba might have been Plan B for the Penguins if the Karlsson deal fell through. In any event, Arizona will be a good landing spot for Dumba; he'll get all the ice time he wants and likely wants to prove he is still an offensive threat. (Narrator: He is not.) I like him a lot......playing for any team but Vancouver.

I'd imagine that his son, Danny Wirtz, will take over. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer, so not much will really change.

Does this take them out of the Karlsson sweepstakes?
I don't think they were in the sweepstakes. I read somewhere in the past week that Karlsson made it clear he didn't want to play in Carolina because he can't stand Brent Burns. Anybody else read or hear that?

Boeser will be fine. He'll come to camp in the best shape of his life. By his own admission, he had a tough year due to injury and constant trade rumours. He will be better next year, and the team will be better for it.

IMHO, I think it is time to stop thinking about Vancouver sports commentators as "the media". Newspapers are nearly dead and have laid off most of their reporters. The only regular print guys still around are Patrick Johnson and Ben Kuzma. Radio has been devastated and there is talk of more Rogers downsizing. And it is everywhere in North America, not just Vancouver. So what we are left with is a flock of bloggers and podcasters who have created and populated their own little worlds where they are not obliged to follow even the most basic journalistic principles and practices. They are selling opinion as fact, and like rats attacking a rotting dead animal, they want to create a frenzy. They also want to be the centre of attention, which is more than a little annoying.

It is all about comfort and fit. This sort of reminds me of back in the 1970's when the big question was: Does a $2000 stereo system sound that much better than a $1000 system? The answer was always, if you like what you hear, it's worth it, but most often the actual acoustic difference between the two systems was virtually imperceptible to the human ear. Same deal with skates. More expensive skates will not make you a measurably better skater.
-
I believe Tocchet made it very clear to Brock that he needs to improve his off-season training habits and that he better be in the best shape of his life when camp starts. I have seen clips of Da Beauty League and the calibre of play is about equal to a non-contact gentlemen's league I used to play in. Hardly high performance. I'd like to see Brock show up at about 195-200 lb and quicker acceleration. I still believe he is capable of 30 goals.

Ray Ferraro will be fine if he uses the same tone and inflection he uses when he does a radio hit. I've noticed when he's doing colour his pitch gets screechy and he talks too fast. I think the best solution is for him to sit with Shorthouse in the rafters and have a conversation, rather than standing at ice level between the benches and trying to keep up with the game. I don't know how to make a poll but if I did I would would consist of two statements: 1. Ray should be in the booth with Shorty, or 2. Ray should be at ice level between the benches. Choose one.
NHL appears to be considering Atlanta and Houston for expansion
in General Hockey Discussion

John Shannon mentioned recently that he'd been told that the next expansion will be by four teams, not two. He listed Houston, Salt Lake City, Atlanta and Quebec City. Seems a little far-fetched to me, but Shannon has solid connections in the hockey world.
