  1. I'd be upset if Connor dropped to our spot and we passed.
  2. He's a lot better off playing, and for now that is in Calgary. He won't play every game in Utica, it will be hard for him to even draw into the lineup.
  3. thanks Johan...that was a nice set up!
  4. you werent kiddin' about the nice shot.
  5. I too was hoping for Merrill and/or Quinton Howden. No body actually knows this....everyone believes it to be true, but I am not so sure....Tinordi does not seem like a Gillis guy at all....he may have character, but he doesnt have the other CHARACTERistics that Gillis covets in a prospect. I cannot recall when the trade was announced, but players I think Gillis wanted at the time are: Schwarz, Sheahan and Bennett.
  6. Because Hakan Andersson has a lot of respect in the Detroit organization, and consistenly value his scouting opinions. Gradin is no slouch, but I dont think he has as much pull in Vancouver, or didnt before. Could you imagine if Detroit had Edler right now? Thank god Nonis listened to Gradin there. About Detroit, I dont think there 2010 draft could have went any better than scripted....Sheahan, Jarnkrok, Aubry, and Pulkinnen in the 1st 4 rounds is sick.
  7. Johan, Would you say Rodin is the 3rd wheel on that line, or is he the one that makes it go? In my head i have it 1. Jarnkrok, 2. Rodin, and 3. Silfverberg, is that accurate. Since it seems you watch him play, can you make any comparisons to an NHL player? perhaps for all 3. Cheers
  8. Not if you want to win the cup or not get pushed around by Chicago. Flip Schneider+ to St Louis for Backes and play him instead of Schroeder or Hodgson for that matter then I think that goes along way in terms of size, speed, and grit. Put Hamhuis/Michalek or Niedermayer on the Blue-Line and we have a contender for sure. The above 3rd line situation looks more like a winner in 2-3 years.
  9. Why? Not many Swedes come over and start their careers in the AHL, they season themselves in teh SEL, and come over when they are almost ready for the NHL. Rodin is at least 2 years away from a roster spot with the Canucks. I see no problem letting him develop in Sweden, but also keeping a watchful eye on his strength and conditioning, which is what I think is his limiting factor right now. He isnt strong. Our prospects are in constant contact with Gagner and the developmental staff, Im pretty sure they realize he has a contract through next season, which he is VERY likely to see through.
  10. eliteprospects.com, dont be lazy
  11. There is a window after the draft when undrafted players can be signed, a la Tochkin. Also Justin Taylor(Capt. of the London Knights) who attended prospects camp had the same oppurtunity but didnt make it. Players do have to declare for the draft, Raymond didnt his first year of eligibility to increase his stock for the next year.
  12. Pre-lockout Iginla was approximately 225lbs, he only dropped the weight post-lockout when speed became more important. Not that that has anything to do with Jordan Schroeder, it was just incorrect.
  13. Watching that video has me so psyched for the 2010 draft. Looking forward to another steal by Gillis and Co.
  14. we have also seen what size has done for the Sharks and Flyers in the playoffs too! Yeah, Obviously everyone would love to have a team with 12 Getzlaf/Thornton's.....they arent that common. I take first line skill no matter what size over a 6'3" 3rd liner. To defend tatoes, when Detroit won the cup, both Franzen and Holmstrom were in their top 6 and both were over 6'1".
  15. I would love to see where you got that Elite Prosects - 6'0" 176lbs http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=7084 IIHF - 2010 World Junior Team Sweden entry list by Team - 5'12" (thats 6'0") http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/205/IHM2050SWE_32E_3_0.pdf Canucks.com - 5'11" 174lbs, no 5'10.5" http://canucks.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8475210
  16. This sentiment is tiresome to say the least. Jordan Schroeder is a short hockey player, but his strength to height ratio is extremely high. Even if he never gets to be 5'10" there is no reason to think he wont be a productive NHLer. Patrick Kane is listed at 5'10" tell me if you believe that. Schroeder is already heavier than Kane, and will likely have a similar playing style to Martin St. Louis who is listed at 5'9"(I would say he has had a great career). Im not sure where you are from, but 6'0" isnt considered a midget, which is exactlly what Rodin and Hodgson are listed at. I realize they arent Joe Thornton or Ryan Getzlaf, but not every player is. Mike Gillis is building the team with ONE major focal point and that is SKILL. Would you consider Datsyuk, Zetterberg, M.Richards and Crosby midgets? I wouldnt, and guess what they all have in common, they are listed as the same height or shorter than, to use your term "midgets", Hodgson and Rodin. What would you rather have a bunch of tall semi-skilled guys, or a bunch of average sized highly-skilled players? I know what I would choose, and based on the most successful team of the past decade (Detroit), skill beats size most of the time!
  17. I wouldnt say story of the tourney, but he is a very servicable player, who is very shifty with the puck, and for his size he can get to the net pretty well. IMO it is not all good though, his play on the forecheck and his own zone could be better (it will), positionally solid, but didnt seem to compete at 100% for the puck IMO(previous scouting spoke highly of his tenacity, which i just didnt see). The story of team sweden to me was a just turned 17 year old defensman outplayed 2 1st round draft picks. Adam Larsson and Oliver Ekman-Larsson were head and shoulders above Tim Erixon and David Rundblad too me. I had Rundblad ranked almost even with OEL last year, but in this tourney OEL was amazing, if Sweden had made to GOLD medal game he would definately have been on the all-star team for the tourney (he still might), and was probably the best defensman I watched in the tourney with Pietrangelo and Fowler being right up there. Adam Larsson is without a doubt going #1 in 2011, the kid is freaky good, and huge. Does everything well. Sorry for getting off topic, but I think Rodin had an excellent tourney, but I dont think he was the story (Markstrom's weak goal was along with the aforementioned d-men).
  18. Anton who? Markus Rödin? Keep these dump arguments somewhere else on the board. Prospects forum is for logical discussions, and sharing information between prospect enthusiasts, not debating playoff series' from 5 years ago.
  19. I'd rather see the US lose to canada in the semi's and Sweden lose to them in the final. Im hoping for a good showing from Schroeder and Rodin, but I would much rather see Canada win. Much the same as I hope Daniel and Henrik have good olympics for sweden and Kesler for the USA, but would rather see team Canada win.
  20. Well I dont think Gillis would have taken him if the character issue actually had a leg to stand on. Gillis and the Canucks obviously interviewed him, didnt see anything but a talented, confident hockey player who should have gone a lot higher. IM glad they took him....everyone who wanted Moore just wanted to fill a organizational hole, because Schroeder is better now, and if potential is through the roof.....JOhn Moore has a long way to go before playing in the NHL. Gillis said they had the oppurtunity to trade down, so obviously someone wanted Schroeder, I really wonder what the package would have been to trade down?
  21. It should also be noted Patrick White drove himself to rookie camp last season, so at least now they could car-pool.
  22. Its interesting the link from hfboards is a topic on the Edmonton Oilers section of their draft day thread. The entire thread has an Oilers slanted perception, and to me it just seems like jealousy. While it is very likely teams were scared by his size, and some of his interviews, I for one know that Gillis wouldnt have drafted him if he thought it was an issue. I also imagine that the scouts saw a ton of him at Minnesota this winter, so they obviously have seen his top end talents. But again what would you expect Schroeder to say when asked of his weaknesses, uh Im pretty small, uuhhh and yeah...It was evident he was the best player for team USA, and arguable that for Minnesota.....The kid is about as talented as you would want in a 1st rounder.....for our CDC infatuation with Cody Hodgson, I already think Schroeder possesses a better shot and is a better skater. The combination of Schroeder-Hodgson is going to be up there with Toews-Kane in very short order. Anyone else stoked that we will have hopefully have some high end talent at the World Juniors again, with Schroeder for USA, and hopefully Rodin and Andersson for Sweden.
  23. Orlov would be a KHLer for life if he was taken by the Canucks in the mold of Kirill Koltsov. Washington is probably one of 5 teams that could actually convince him to come over.
  24. I knew quite a bit about this guy pre-draft. Obviously a Gradin special. I wonder if he had some inside information on other teams having him high, as I personally had hoped for him at 83. I would have loved a little Canadian grit in the 2nd with Latta/Howse, but I'm extremely pleased with Rodin. This guys numbers are gaudy in the J-20 swedish league.......not a lot of guys put up points like that, especially goals. Dont want to get the hopes too high, but reading his scouting report on elite prospects make him sound like a mix between Datsyuk and Alfredsson.
